Snowboarding is too extreme for me

So recently, since IF3, I've been getting more into skiing, and this weekend I went to a snowboard film premier thing and they also played Turbo and Journal (which they cut short) and I came to the conclusion that I don't want to snowboard anymore, I want to ski. There is only so much you can do with a snowboard, theres so much more youdo with two skis! I never thought I would feel this way, but i found the snowboard films repetiive and boring, it seemed like every jump the guys went off they did the same thing, a grab and sometimes a spin, but it all looked the same. And when they were doing rails they just went on and slid all the way down and came off, they didn't land switch or do anything, and when they were jumping off a roof they didnt even grab or spin, i was really shocked! Whereas on turbo every trick looked so different and so amazing, i was really surprised they cut it short, but they were all snowboarders anyway. As soon as turbo came on 3/4 of the croud was like SNOWBOARD FILM!! and walked out of the room, it was really ignorant. I donno, I just find skiing more interesting, skiiers are more open minded (however there are exceptions for both), and the films have more variety.. I'm sorry If I offended anyone, does anyone else feel the same way?

i used to race, i was into it quite a bit, but then i got injured and gave it up and started snowboarding, i got pretty good at it, and got bored, and now i ski again :D

those kids who got up and left are the posers that suck at snowboarding anyway. Burton's core market shall we say.

I've never met any good snowboarder who doesn't think skiers who throw down are sick.

i love watching snowboard films, ive never tried boarding and probably never will but i have a lot of respect for those guys, if it wasn't for them who knows if skiing would be where its at today. but skiing is still 10 times better! snowboarding so....1996you've made a good choice :p

what snowboard video was it may i ask? 'cause i mean, if you were watching an am video and comparing it to turbo and journal - it's not exactly a fair comparison.
that being said, only a handful of snowboard videos the past few seasons have actually been good (in my opinion). One thing snowboard videos have always kicked ski video's ass's at is the fun factor. when i watch a ski video it's all serious and shit. Hot Lunch did a good job at making a fun ski video, but it wasn't even a full legit video... I mean, watch the robot food videos, now those are good. child support was another fun video that came out last year. As for banger videos: Optimistic from last year and That's It, That's All! this year are both amazing snowboard videos. But for the most part I do agree - I mean, when was the last time someone watched an entertaining Mack Dawg video? Same goes for some of the PBP videos that have been made though - too formulaic for me... I get lost in the monotony of it all.

Sadly, most kids these days who board are posers and just do it for the look. There are still some sick boarders out there that keep it real though and respect+ to them.

Ski till I die though, raced from 7-13 then picked up my first pair of twins at 14. Been skiing since I was 2 and Im 16 now.

glad you made the switch ha.

who cares what they've done in the past, the point is they found something that they enjoy, and thats what skiing should be about, just enjoying yourself

this is not supposed to be in any way offensive but

who the fuck are you? ive never seen you before.

ive been working with the guys at the ns office for the past few months and they decided make me their new mod (just became one last week)

except bigjim..

racers are the scum of the universe

knuckledraggers and twoplankers unite against this menace of rich spoiled brats.

Did you just invent a new name when they made you a mod? I assume you haven't been on the site for 2 months.

hahaha, seams like you guys are all jealous. how dare someone new become a mod - even if he knows the guys who run the site! you guys should rebel!

Yeah, I agree. All the good skiers and boarders at my mountain all ride together and have no problems with each other. But then I'll ride up the lift with two snowboarders and they see a skier go and then a boarder and they just say: "Why the fuck would anyone ski? Yeah it's so damn gay." Then they ask me why I ski and I tell them: "Because I'm not a poser and follower like you two"

They just told me to fuck off and they shut up for the rest of the 15 seconds on the lift.

Please don't take me wrong, I was implying that they were posers, not snowboarding in general, I have some good friends who board and I'm chill with them.

That's a really ignorant thing to say. Most of the people I raced with aren't rich or spoiled. It costs a lot and I remember the refrigerator being pretty damn near empty for a few months but its worth it because it makes you a way better skier.

That's kind of funny because I've started watching a lot of snowboard movies lately for some inspiration...Which movies where they showing because I've definitely had some moments when watching a snowboard vid when I said to myself "wow, somebody needs to try and do that on skis!" But I can't deny that skiing has progressed incredibly in the last few years and that people are starting to do some really creative stuff. Anyway both are great, as long as you're having fun!!
ps I used to do both but I stopped the boarding about five or six years back and really got into park skiing.

i agree, snowboard vids are usually a liitle bit funner, i have no doubt that skiing is defineatly way more progressive but some snowboard vids are actually pretty cool. Gets me pumped to go skiin sometimes. If anyone here has watched prediculous, thats another fun snoboard vid.

First off, I'll start by saying that I"m a snowboarder. I've dabbled in skiing, but snowboarding is my true love. I'll also say that 90% of the people I ride with are skiers, as our hill has a strong ski crowd.

I think that what gets people thinking snowboarding is getting boring, is because once snowboarding gets to a certain point, it's the technicality that sets apart the good from the great. The difference between a front board and a back lip LOOKS very minor, but skill level is a huge step. Even as far as switch vs. regular. You never know if a snowboarder is riding switch unless you know what way they regularly ride. So a boarder spinning a 5 may or may not be technical. With skiers, you will always know what is switch, what isn't. The difference between spinning frontside vs. backside is the same as skiers spinning left side vs. right side. For the average joey, the difference may never be seen, but is definitely big. Also with boarders, there's the option of presses. It's definitely something subtle, but sets people apart. I guess lastly, there's people like Simon Chamberlain who are doing all kinds of butters on rails. Nose presses into tail presses and stuff that is subtle but tech.

I know that when I see a movie like Child Support or Down With People or ANYTHING from Think Thank. It just makes me want to get out on the hill as soon as possible.

You could not do the thngs that racers do. Come up with some witty response, if you want, but you know, somewhere in your heart, you are not good enough at skiing to be a successful racer. Racing is a very, very hard thing to do. Yes, some racers are pieces of shit. They aren't the epitome of racing, though. Kill yourself.

it just because jore favors racers over, pretty much the whole rest of the mountain. i used to race, adn almost all the kids on the team are cool, lots of em are good at park skiing too.

YEah i startd skiing like 7 months ago when i went to snowplanet (a indoor ski park in NZ) and there were no snowboards left (I figured i would pick up snowboarding easier cuz i surf) and my cuzn who does freestyle skiing talked me into hiring some skis.... after my first run i was hookd and have spent a shit load of money on gear and days down on the mountain since then... and am soon headin ova to Banff for their season... Since then iv spend heaps of time on ns and youtube looking a ski film segments and always get ampd..

However even tho ski films are mean. surfing films are betta in my opinion.......

well im not going to lie... Child Support is one of my favorite videos...lots of rails, jumps, and a fun time...

we need more stuff like that in the Ski video category...simple tricks, and fun times

skiing is the shit i have to agree with you. So much variety but i still like to watch snowboarding once and a while there are some pretty good board films out there too. I think that way to many people when they first start snow sports the instantly try snowboarding because its the "cool thing to do" alot people just thik of skiing as racing.

The film i saw was rome sds "no correct way". I found special blend's first chair last call a fun snowboard video, but thats the only one i can truly say i enjoy watching.

hmm. i was concidering buying no correct way. guess i'll just convince a friend to buy it instead?

Pretty much all my friends are boarders... and none of them have a prob with skiing cuz they aint posers and they think its sick too. Its really gay especially at my local mountain when Im always asked on the chairlift.."why do u ski?" my response which usually varies.."Go watch a fuckin new ski movie and then ask me that question....." People are just ignorant when they ask that question. But I have no prob with snowboarding and I have no problem with NON-poser boarders... ECT

To the thread creator,

Yea it was shitty they turned Turbo off early, no one was stoked on that. Hopefully you got there early enough to watch Journal. But I've got to disagree with your opinion that there is less to do on a snowboard. As much as I hate to say it, snowboarders are alot more creative than skiers lately. While guys like Perry and Wesson are pushing the envelope with new tricks, snowboard flicks are chock full of that shit. Did you see LNP's part in No Correct Way? It's insane.
