Snowboarding is dying and you can thank shaun white for that.

Maybe it's different elsewhere, but at Keystone the park is still over half snowboarders and the numbers definitely don't seem to be declining. I could see a decline among the vacation crowd, but I think there will be a fairly equal amount of skiers and snowboarders in summit county parks in the future.

coc downsized a lot last year because of the decline in snowboarders. momentum's park was actually a bit bigger than coc for once. then again theres still more snowboarders than skiers in the parks here too. i agree it would probably just be the vacationers that it would effect, and i suppose some of coc's campers could be lumped into that vacation crowd as well.

I would have to disagree with this. I have been skiing park at Breck and Keystone for the last 11 years. Especially over the last 4 years, i have seen a large increase in the amount of skiers compared to the number of snowboaders. I can aso say that the number of friends i have who still snowboard is declining. Many of them used to give me shit about skiing and that i was gay. Now, many of those same guys are skiing or ski every once in a while but dont want to fully invest in switching completely.

Well at one point you had to snowboard to even hit the parks. The equipment for skiing wasn't what it is today. Also there were many places that had "SNOWBOARD ONLY" Terrain parks and halfpipes. You could get your pass pulled for trying to throw it down on skis.

Snowboarding was already expanding fast but when the winter xgames really started to take off it got even bigger. Plus by then halpipe was in the olympics. Every year more people would be out there and then their friends would try it.

I think now it's dipped a little bit the other way with the explosion of the freeskiing movement. I wouldn't be surprised if it moves a tiny bit back toward snowboarding and then levels off for the most part.

Besides loon most of the east coast is completely dominated my skiers and places like attitash nh there are almost no snowboarders besides a the occasional vacationer

Japanese resorts tend to have a bigger share of snowboarders than skiers, and I rarely see any freeskiers in the park.

So much this, those riders are unreal, way too smooth too. House of 1817 riders murder. The opening shot of one of the monday minutes at hyland where danimals board slides the side of the knuckle for the nybora jumps from super messes with my mind. Ollies onto 4ft high rails, the gap late 270 on that big rail at troll... Shaun white isn't a snowboarder. Danimals is, and he is proof that gingers have souls.

No, you're right, people aren't quitting/switching to skis. The issue is that nobody is starting to board. You'll see plenty of boarders now, but look at the general age group of the boarders, because it's largely older.

There's a vid of Jake Burton saying Shaun's the best thing to happen to snowboarding in years because of how he inspires young people just starting out. The vid is a couple years old. But no, someone as successful as Shaun would not be the reason why Snowboarding is dying, and if anything, he's they guy keeping it alive.

You should checkout some early Prince videos. He does what he wants because he's Prince and it helps him be who he wants to be.

When you become that famous or well known you can start doing dumb or tasteless things, partially because everyone watching you has stars in their eyes, you just do what you wanna do to be you, however dumb that is to other people (if it makes sense to you.) Anyway, look at some of the 80s rock stars with long pants and long hair. Did they destroy rock or did they help it evolve?

.I meant tight pants.

I have zero problem if the snowboarder population diminishes. They are such cocks in the midwest and think they own the mountain, just as some skiers do.

I think that snowboarding became popular early on because of the terrain park but now that skiing has been adapted to the terrain park (twin tips, skis mounted in the middle) skiing is making a comeback and snowboarding is losing its appeal.

At my hill (Snow Trailz, Ohio) I see 80% snowboarders at least in the park. On the rest of the regular trails it's slightly more even but still more snowboarders

No you idiot

> implying that I can't fucking stand the zoom into the rail after every shot. Makes edits almost unwatchable.

OP, you can thank Shaun White for that?... There are so many dudes killin' it in the snowboard scene right now it's unreal. Halldor and Eiki Helgason, Bode Merill, Sage Kotsenburg, Jaeger Bailey, Jake Blauvelt, many more. If you really believe that then I doubt you follow snowboarding at all. As for the numbers at resorts... idk where you ski but the East coast is pretty much half and half everywhere I go. Definitely no shortage of boarders and I don't think they're going anywhere.

I think it seems that way alot of the time because skiing has such an awesome online community here at NS. It's a shame that snowboarding doesn't have something similar...most snowboarders just lurk in the darkness on here anyways.
