Snowboarders allowed at Alta for a day!

They gave snowbird employees a tour of alta earlier in the season and let snowboarders ride alta for like two or three hours, it was snowbird employees.

I have friends that snowboard and what not, but overall snowboarders suck. That's what I hate about going to snowbird, you get to a tight chute or straightline only to find that some snowboarder has already sideslipped the whole thing. I know skiers do this too but it is mostly snowboarders that do this shit and pisses me off. Fuck snowboarders, I hope alta never allows them cause when you ski at alta for long enough you forget that snowboarders even exist and its the greatest feeling in the world.

Right, that's exactly like saying "No skier would ever want to hit a rail, because they're not really built for skis, and boards are much better designed for sliding them. Skis would be terrible on rails, and in pipes too, they should be banned."

I know lots of boarders who would rip the shit out of Alta. Probably a lot better than all of the bigoted, uptight skiers who think they should have priority to the mountains, regardless of how much they might suck.

Only in America would people actually try to justify rules like this.

i dont know why everyone is hating on snowboarders......i mean i can understand if they r the wannabe gangster kind that just sit around and dont ride...but the ones that r good are actually cool to hang out with...i know....i am one

Sure doooood you might be right. But then again no boarder could maintain speed on a single traverse at Alta unless they had poles or ........walked. I snowboarded for 4 years and loved it. I have respect for the sport of snowboarding.

Is alta that much different than snowbird? I was at snowbird about a month ago but we didnt get over to Alta.. I never understood why they didnt let snowboarders ride there. Seems like a dick move to me.

Yeah. Whoever did that. Great job promoting the image that skiers are intelligent, nice, and free thinking people who consider everybody who rides snow to be equal. Now even boarders who might have been chill just think we're dicks. Congrats on your stupid little jerk off prank.

You said "no boarder would want to ride Alta anyway because of the traverses"

If that was actually true, then why would Alta make a rule that they can't ride there? According to you none of them would want to, so it wouldn't be an issue.

Instead of banning them, why not let them decide, if it really is a bad for snowboards as you say, then they won't go there.

I'll bet you would find a lot of boarders who could figure out ways to shred at Alta, despite the traverses. It's not the only hill in the world that has traverses, although it is one of the only hills to still ban snowboarding.

Skiers who agree with banning snowboarders from any resort, do not deserve to be allowed in any terrain parks or halfpipes.

ALTA OPENS TO SNOWBOARDERS FOR THE DAY

April 1, 2006 - Psych! Hundreds of riders venturing up Little Cottonwood Canyon to shred Snowbird this morning were greeted by an unexpected sight. The resort was plastered with dozens of official-looking flyers--some of them even lamenated--bearing the Alta logo and the message: Today Only! Snowboarders Allowed. Those who failed to check the date before dialing a number promising free lift tickets soon learned they were unwitting participants in an April Fools ruse. The number led to Alta ski patrol, which, of course had no knowledge of the flyers. The fact that the number was for patrol and not the ticket office has led to speculation that Snowbird's patrol may have been behind the prank. Even on April Fools day, it seems Alta is for skiers.

hahahaha

Well it will never happen anyway b/c the riders at Alta would get super pissed. I not saying i dont want snowboarders at ALta. i am saying i dont think snowboarders would want to go to alta.

that place looks like it has lots of sick cliffs!

That's my point, you keep saying that they wouldn't want to ride there, however it seems that they do want to ride there judging from the response this prank got.

If snowboarders really didn't want to ride Alta, then they wouldn't ride there, would they? And there would be point in having them banned if they didn't want to go there.

Alta is for skiers and it should stay that way. If you wanna go ski with snowboarders then you can goto snowbird which has the same terrain.

the trail map doesnt do it justice. Every lift at alta will drop u off inbetween the sick shit. hence more sick terrain accessed by fewer lifts. meaning super long traverses/sidesteps/duckwalks. some not all could be accessed by snowboards by just traversing but most cannot w/o having to bootpack to get to your destination. if any of u were a local and could ski the mtn like u live there (like i do) u would see snowboards as purely annoying when it comes to gettin the pow. nothing gets in the way of the pow here.

Dude, rationalize it however you want to.

But, you can't convince me that Alta is the only ski hill in the world that has traverses and bootpacks to access terrain.

And, you can't convince me that traverses are a valid reason to ban snowboarding, because if that was the case, it would be banned from all kinds of mountains.

However, I am convinced that people like you should not be allowed to ski in terrain parks, because without snowboarding parks would not exist, and if you think that you can exclude them from your area, then they should be able to exclude you from theirs.

look man, if u have ever skied alta then u would know. and u would also know that if you ski alta there is no need to ride park ever again unless u like rails. alta is just different from your average resort. ask any local young or old and theyll tell u to keep boarders the fuck out.

Hehe got a point. I think its lame never been there so I dont know. But why ban them coz they have to walk shit up, so what its their problem. They will find out they can better go to another place...

yes, we all know that all "ard" (I assume you mean hard) skiiers HAVE to have snowboarders. The 80s called, they want their rivalry back.

And this guy...

Gonna guess he's not a local. But if Snowbird has the same terrain...why the fuck don't they ban snowboarders there too?

I agree with the kid who keeps saying that if you're gonna ban snowboarders from Alta. Ban the little parkrats from the parks.

Enough Said.

The problem isn't with good snowboarders, it is just the shitty ones that think they are so good and fuck up the snow by scraping their way down the trail. They can not let some snowboarders in and kick others out. It isn't like they can't replicate the terrain anyways. You would still get 500" of snow every winter at snowbird, solitute, and brighton. If one ski area out of 4 that are very similar chooses not to allow snowboarders for "old times sake" or whatever, who really cares.

Yeah and why don't they make 1 resort where black people are not allowed, and then one that forbids women. For old times sake!!

Banning snowboarders is seriously not relaxed.

You can't choose if you are black/not or male/female. I don't understand what the problem with this is. There are plenty of other places to snowboard, and if you want to hit Alta, just ski. Not too complicated.
