Snowboard Big Air vs. Skiing Big Air

I'm not creating this thread in order to begin a snowboarding/skiing feud or to hate on either of the sports. I just simply want to hear people's opinions on the difference between the two that we saw over the last couple of days.To be honest, I thought it was amazing how the skiers came out swinging and were just sending the nuttiest tricks throughout the entire competition. The snowboarding triples were cool and all, but they definitely looked redundant after awhile and didn't have much variation. Not to mention how snowboarding kind of looks lame when even if they don't fully land a trick, they can just wash out. In the skiing, we obviously saw the craziest big tricks (butter triple, switch rodeo triple, and multiple other triples) along with creativity (henrik and kai) along with the classic steezy 7's and a zero spin from Jossi.

I feel like in snowboarding you jsut don't have that type of creativity or variation that makes it so exciting.

In my opinion, skiing showed up the snowboarding big air in a huge way and really showcased how crazy our end of the winter sport spectrum is becoming. Thoughts?

P.s.- TOUGHNESS was a huge theme (Kenworthy after his triple to his head) and I feel as if Henrik's "going for it" at the end was equal to Haldor's "going for it" triple, but Henrik obviously succeeded.

All in all, huge night for skiing.

I definitely agree. No hate on snowboarding. But it followed in line with the predictions, and wasn't exciting. Yet, ski big air was a complete nuthouse. It was dramatic as it gets. Twas good shit.

Forgot to mention Kai's screamin seamen dubs and the fact that he was in the medical tent for his knee but came back out and continued to slay.

Both competitions were HUGE, I was stoked to see my favourites walk away with gold in both events. I just love Torstein's style and to me his triples just look the best and I felt as though he got robbed last year. Henrik is an absolute machine and he just dominated the whole scene, I had accidentally seen a post saying Henrik did a triple on facebook before watching it all on ESPN watch (I'm living in England and didn't feel like staying up untill 5am). I couldn't believe it when he pulled it on his last run, I haven't been so excited about a new trick for a long time! Never been done before period, and Henrik pulls it on the biggest stage in the world... For me the skiing competition was more exciting, hands down. Also Kai Mahler's triple was insane, I'm not sure but I think it was the first one he's ever even tried as well!

Huge props to the Gus, Kai and Halldor for taking crazy hits!

This has been an insane xgames so far, I can't wait to see what goes down in slopestyle tonight!

I feel like with snowboarding they isn't a huge variation with grabs, skiing is the complete opposite ( Kai's dub screeming seemen)

you kids are idiots. the ending of snowboard big air was almost as insane as skiing. Torstein landed a sw backside triple, which is equivalent to a sw unnatty trip on skis.... never seen that. then right after torstein stomped marky mark mcmorris landed that cab trip 14 which i dont think has ever been done. Just cuz skiiers have different names like misty, bio rodeo for the same rotation, doest mean that skiing has sicker tricks

I agree with what's been said already with the exception of halldor. His lobster flips are by far the best looking snowboard jump trick ever thrown.

I hate to say it, but it just kinda looks like the trips are a little easier on the snowboard. Again I guess I dont really have any idea, but it just seems like they can be whipped around faster and they have way more time after the third rotation then skiiers do. Again, maybe that's because they've been doing them for longer and are more used to it
