Has anyone been skiing at the bird lately? How is it?I'm up there for all of next week and unfortunately can't go anywhere else because we bought season's passes to snowbird a while ago..
I know there's like 6 trails open :(
But is it fun at all? How's the snow?
Recommendattions?

I was up there this weekend and its pretty much one way down from the tram as of now. If you coming next week you might be able to catch a little bit of snow on the tail end but there's little to no coverage right now....bummer on getting passes a while ago not that anywhere's that great right now

Yeah it's pretty awful haha
Especially since my home mountain just got like a foot of snow, and I've gotta be out in Utah while everyone else gets all the snowwwww
Ahhhh

maching down regulator late in the day is so fun, and theres a bunch of teeny jibs on the rest of the run.

theres supposed to be some banger storm coming in this weekend.

i was shredding so much snow at jay last around this time last year. i guess utah just has to wait its turn, whistler stole all the snow

this. there is still a lot of run to ski if you ski off the tram, i didn't really get bored once. just gotta get pretty creative with all the little jibs around. it got icy sometimes over the weekends but you can find soft snow, just cruise where they are blowing snow. and also if you want to take the tram, the bass highway traverse to the tram is pretty rocky but you can make it down easy, just take it a little slow the first time. have fun.

heard main baldy is open...
oh whoops this is a Snowbird thread, anyways I'll leave it just thought everyone should know.

thats dope, i hiked the baldy chutes a good three times this preseason, i think even mid october. it retains a lot of snow, stays shady for most of the day. should be fun to ski with this new storm coming, ha too bad i dont have a pass there...

I heard through the grape vine that the tram is now closed temporarily. I guess snow makers forgot to check on the gun mid reg and the fan stopped blowing or something of that nature and there is a huge pile of blue ice. Cats tried to do some work on it but I guess it is just a shit show up there for now. Pray for snow!

Hahaha sounds.. great..I'm sure I'll find a way to have fun though
Skiing anywhere is better than not at all
Might head over to Alta though, do they have any more trails open?

i have never skiied alta that much on pow days so i wouldnt really know. i'd say they both get skiied out pretty quickly on the main runs, there are a lot of powder hounds and when it snows they all come up. there are plenty of stashes though, you can always find something good, sundays are usually better not quite as much people. you really just have to search for the perfect lift, it seems that every storm one lift is forgotten by everyone.

snowbird you don't have to traverse at all, at alta you do. Alta has alot open right now actually, considerably more than snowbird.

The Bird.
if you know Alta well enough, you can get sick runs all day, even though the main runs are tracked like mad

I can say the same about bird for finding fresh... The thing that makes the bird better is you dont have to be a stuck up prick to ride it

HAHAHAHAHAHA.really?i love the Bird, i have nothing against it dude.but you calling me a stuck up prick just because i choose to ride Alta?congratulations man, you're so cool.

ha dont agree with the second part but i definitely agree with the first. there is so much terrain at snowbird, plenty of hidden stashes. you can find stuff off of gad chutes, baldy hike, tiger tail for days and days after a storm. sure right under the lift gets skiied out but thats true at any mountain, you just gotta switch around to different areas to get the goods. whenever this question is asked everyone seems so biased to their particular mountain, for some reason people at alta and snowbird always have to hate and claim shit to each other. not saying anyone in this thread does it but my friends and people i meet on the mountain always talk shit on each others resorts, i get tired of it who cares both are great resorts.

You know which resort doesn't get skied out? The backcountry, everyone can argue about which resort has the most fresh, but your feet will get you to the best shots possible.

So I got here about 4 hours ago and it's been snowing all day. At least 3 new inches of snow already outside
yeaaaaaaaaaa
hopefully it will continue through the night!!

does anyone know if the buses are running up big/little cottonwood canyon from the bottom lot and if a non mtn employee can currently ride em?

they are and you can ride them but they have very bad times currently. in the morning i think two leave at 7:30 and 8:00 and leave at 4:40 and 5:15. not sure on those exact times, check the uta website. i think full time bus schedule starts next weekend though.

I would like to ski at Solitude, but I am living in Alta, thus Alta or 'Bird are the most reasonable options.

But you have to have the knowledge and gear and time to rip BC.
That's why it's Alta allll day, then BC the rest of the week. haha.

yea today was unrealwe caught the first ride up gad and got some amazing powder
later on in the day it got pretty cloudy though haha could barely see a foot in front of me

ha ya ive done the same run pretty much for the last 10 days ive been up, its super fun still but i really want some new stuff open. anyone heard any rumors about possible openings soon? i saw that they were blowing a ton of snow for peruvian.

I thought they were going to open Peruvian yesterday with the snow they got, but still the same ol gad valley. Today was freezing but still fun to play around

i've heard that they're planning on opening up the peruvian side in the next week
i leave on saturday, sad i'll probably miss it

Don't get dead bump

yesterday and today totals could ammount to multiple feet of snow. Apparently still not alot of trails open but with the new snow hopefully they will open them. Will be up there for christmas and can't get off the snowbird website waiting for updates. im pumped

What is the snowbird crew doing up there I mean come on we've been getting snow for the past few weeks and there's still only the same 4 lifts open. Seriously?

relax man, its not even halfway through december. im sure therell be alot open in a week or two. theyre still training new people, and had to do some avy blasting today.

if you dont know how to have fun within those 4 lifts, then go to pc and go hike some boxes.

Did you see how much snow we got on top of very weak snow? Things have been naturally occurring in the backcountry non stop. We don't want another in bounds slide last like last year. The resort will open in time, they are pushing as hard as they can.

exactly.

they would be dumb to push it hard to open stuff the weren't 100% sure of in the first half of dec. and as much as i want to have it all open, i'll wait until they say it's safe.

it's tough, but you have to be patient. it's not like we can't ski there until june...

ya the snowbird sight says that it is opening tuesday. also they said they are pushing to open other lifts, im thinking gad 2 soon, they were blowing some snow there.

yeah it says chips will be open, does that mean the pgulch chair will be open too?
and id put money on gad2 being open this weekend
