Snowbird vs. alta

word is snowbird just opened the tram...definately, definately way ub-er sick-er, gnar-er terrain over there!
 
its the same terrain.. the only difference is snowboarding vs. no snowboarding and then the lodges/restaraunts and shit... if you let that dictate which one you like better then you're retarted
 
i got a pass to snowbird and now i really wish i had gotten a pass to alta : (

and ive delt with some dick people at alta. i prefer snowbird because there is a wider variety of terrain imo at the bird and have had better relations there.
 
Yeah out of that last storm when Alta got like 40 inches and Snowbird got like 39, it was SOOOOO much deeper at Alta.

But seriously, they are both at the top of the same canyon. So a claim that Alta gets more snow than the Bird is ridiculous. It all depends on the aspect of where they measure and wind and sun and random ass mother nature shit. If anything it's like an inch or two difference per big storm, which may add up to a few feet over the course of a 4-5 month season.

Either way, they both get a bunch of snow and they both have high points. That being said, I prefer Snowbird for the tram and sustained steepness over the steep/flat/steep/flat stair step terrain and traverses/side steps at Alta. Plus, it's fun to ride with Snowboarders and their is an elitist attitude at Alta.
 
I wasn't in Utah that year, so I can't say for myself. I do remember checking snow reports though and they didn't seem that different at the time. Couldn't find anything on the Bird website about past years totals. Maybe they were that much different. Fuck, I don't know or care, as long as I'm not skiing Colorado snow anymore. Although, Southern Colorado is getting hammered this winter so far.

Friends that have lived in SLC for a long time have told me that Snowbird always under reports.

 
I have skied snowbird for the last 10 years or so, this year I switched to Alta. I find that there are more stashes for days after a storm at Alta. I am liking Alta alot more right now, but maybe it is just because it is a newer experience, and I was getting sick of Snowbird.
 
For a younger guy like me I like Alta because of the vibes. People generally share the goods with the little people. Also I have had sooo many good days skiing with the BINGER family there and Alta isn't really just a resort to me its where I learned to really love skiing and the mountains. I don't like to be emotional but for me Alta is that kind of place. Snowbird just doesn't do anything for me...
 
I think this is the real difference, minus the tram part. While it is nice and warm, you can get to most of the same places on the lifts.
 
i like alta because i know alta.

i barely ski snowbird and i dont know where to go or what to ski at the bird
 
I work at Snowbird.... I've been riding there for the last 6 years... The mountain is awesome, the terrain is sweet... but Snowbird Corporation sucks balls. They don't give a shit about locals anymore, they want the rich out of towners. Alta kills it all the way. I love that place. What happened to you Snowbird, you used to be cool.
 
I think that its about time that I throw my two cents in on this one.... The is only two real differences between the two. Snowbird has sustained vert and Alta has more snow (not much stormwise but overall yeah) and the real answer for this question lies with the skier I know that a ton of the people in this forum like the "jib" features that alta has and thats not my style I like hauling ass down steep faces and hucking... but like I said eailer it is like saying witch is better like Ford vs Chevy and cell phone commpanies you like what fits your style best.....

And I like chevy....

Lets roll with that debate next week
