Snow Watch 07/08

remember that avy path i showed you when we were burning the pineapple? yea, i thought that was big when that happened, but never thought it could just eat the highway. Probably just the combination of really low snowlevels, tons and tons of snow, and a nice gulley or some shit.

Anybody know of the rain made it to stevens over the weekend? Shit's been close for a couple days and they open on the best day possible. Hope it's stays cold.

i am so pissed! so much new fucking snow!!! amaizing! but the passes were always closed so i didn't get to ski any of it... now its raining. HOW LAME!

ummmmm, from powdermag...

"On Saturday, Stevens bombed the slopes rising up from the road via

the use of a M60A3 tank (featured in December 2007 issue of Powder)

firing massive 105mm howitzer shells. One shot, particularly, caused a

massive slide all the way down to the road producing THESE RESULTS.end paragraph

begin paragraph

-150-foot high powder cloud

-15-18-foot crown"

and more

yeah we're the only ones to have any tanks for avy work. most places used to use recoilless rifles (75 and 105, but now 106mm), although now everyone's moving to "newer" technologies like the avalauncher and whatnot. even though those cost 20 times more per round.

nothing beats a good ol artillery barrage. move forward, draw fire, move back, call in artillery strike, wipe em out, move forward and repeat.

Shits so crazy... There's numerous places that had slid down to 2 with trees still sticking almost out in the road. Got stoped for something, amusing it was control work about 9:30. Sure sucks to have have the Mtn closed for 5 days of too much snow then it freaking pisses rain before they open and it all turned to shit. Even 7th was beyond crapy today. No park. But I'm holding out for the 10in possible overnight. Come on POW.

top part of central was closed not there, haha a patroller was sitting there because so many people went through it (features were are put away though). The lower part, the pipe was open and not too bad, dumped rained before i got there so it was slush but it was a lot of fun.

everything is pretty much the same as last week otherwise

so, i havent actually bothered to ski snoqualmie park in like 5 years cause ive been in canada mostly... but apparently they got their shit together cuase it sucks way less now.

initial forecast for presidents day week is lowering temps and precip.

any bets on if the temps will be below freezing when the precip hits?

NOAAs got rhymes:

WEATHER SYNOPSIS FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

If you think winter’s over, you’re in for surprise,

And a storm late today should open your eyes.

Though bonds initially may be good to a crust,

With strong winds and showers, wind slabs are a must.

So if you’re fixing to go for a ride,

Best check the layering to see what’s inside.

Variations in wind speed or snowfall rate,

May make the stability not that great.

Soft surface snow may be powder to you,

But to buried weak layers it’s a good slab stew.

And watch the sun for breaks after a shower,

As March sun changes stability by the hour.
