Snow tires for Snoqualmie pass?

I'm new to the area and I'd like to get up to Snoqualmie pass a bunch this winter. I know they keep the road pretty well plowed. Are all season tires good enough or will I need snowtires? I have chains for when they are needed, which doesn't seem like too often.

My current tires need to be replaced soon. It's a RWD car, so it sucks on snow.

get snow tires for sure. especially if your gonna be going though the pass a lot.you wont regret it.

The DOT who run this section of free way are pussies and say traction tires adviced or even required for something that stevens DOT will think is nothing, so if you want to get up there without using chain's everytime you go up, i would highly recomend getting snow tires,

I have 4WD and some basically brand new chunky tires so im ready, but in a rear drive car, snow tires are a must, and i would recomend carring your chains, even if there are not required. (obviously)

I agree, people who go up to steven's every weekend are badass's!

Oh i bought the car for the 4wd, snow tires just happend to come with it.

Isn't that point? To make getting to where your going easier? I dont know about you, but i go skiing for skiing not for the crazy adventure on the way up.

hahah i know, but still, having 4WD is also peace of mind, but when went to cyrstal opening day and yesterday, i saw a Chevy Blazer in the ditch, a Nissan X-Terra, and a Honda Prelude in the middle of the road putting chains on. so yeah, 4WD is peace of mind and never having to deal with that, if your careful.

And has anyone noticed that there is alot of police on the Crystal Road, i saw an EVO in that little town before you make the left to go up to Cyrstal, and a man was in handcuffs while a police officer was going through the trunk, and also i saw some guys sittting on the hood of a cop car, in handcuffs sitting in front of lot F (i Think) but it looked like they had done some donunts, now i dont know the details on either, but do they really need to put everyone in handcuffs? i know they do it for their own safety but dont they need probable cause to do that?

probably doing something stupid, people always seem the under estimate what snow does to your cars, how it affects traction and how your car responds, its kinda sad.

mind if i correct you but snow has pretty good traction, ice and slush are what you want to look out for

its not scary, its fun, because even if you have RWD, all you do is let off the gas, and it whips right back around, and you do it in extremely open spaces, like the beginning part of lot b at crystal.

I went up about 50-ish times from Seattle last year and only had to chain up once. I got a mile down the road and took them off because there was hardly anything on the road. I have Pirelli P6 tires which are consired all-season or traction tires. Those work fine in my lightweight front wheel drive car. To be fair, I am from montana though and are roads are snow packed for about 4 months out of the year. I just watch the pass report and if its dumping I'll try and time it so they have the chain requirement cleared by the time I'm up there. They get the road cleared super fast, but they sometimes still have the chains up for just an inch of slush. As for studded tires, I would say definitely no. Its 50 miles of freeway and there will never be packed snow or ice on the road (which is the only conditions studs are good for), save maybe once or twice for 8 miles.

this area is bare asphalt way too often to need or want studded tires. I-90 is basically either plowed or closed, and once you get to the top of the pass its relatively flat and you can get around pretty easily without chaining up.
