Snow Park NZ returned to the Lee family to operate on April 1st 2013 and they have been tight lipped about what the plans are for 2013.

“We can now reveal that the plan for 2013 is that we will not be opening on a regular basis to the public.” Said Sam Lee, General Manager. “We had hoped we could get on our feet sooner but we needed more time than we have had”.

Best efforts have been hampered by the volume of work and capital required. The team have made the decision to pause and get their bearings, and approach the future of Snow Park responsibly to their customers and trading partners.

“We have worked hard to underwrite the season and provide the Snow Park we have all come to know and love, but time has been against us from the start.” Said Lee. “This is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make, with the level of functioning assets, I know we cannot provide the World Class terrain we have become known for”.

Snow Park NZ is prepared to stay closed for the 2013 winter as it plans to restructure itself moving forward.

“While this is bad news for the 2013 winter, its about the long term success of the brand, venue and assets. As a family we are passionate about the industry and Snow Park, but we have to be socially and fiscally responsible to our customers and our partners.”

They have not ruled out operating on an ad-hoc basis and plans for this will be released when there is more certainty about what will be provided. They will still be running their accommodation and be available for events and functions.

absolutely gutted for my friends down there. i loved that place, hope it opens next year and comes back stronger. cardrona better step it up this year

Yeah I just got that email, super sad to hear. Snowpark is so rad, I really hope they make it happen for the 2014 season

This only effects the pros that go there and the whiny little rich kids that bitch to their parents that they HAVE TO GO THERE. So I dont give a fuck.

i feel bad for all the guys that have bought air tickets, paid deposits on accommodation and get told this late that it will not be opening.

Such a dick move from them... not impressed

I'm going out for the next 5 months in about a week. Hoping to get a job out there, does anyone know what the ski areas around queenstown are like, and if they have any parks?

No way. Wanaka sucks dicks, bunch of stuck up hoodrats ho think they are better than everyone else. Vibe at the remarks park in queenstown is so much better. Everyone knows everyone and the night life is un-comparable.

Doesn't really matter they just lost alot of respect towards to locals, sell-outs as per usual. Good opportunity for operators.

I'm still planning to go down there. Trying to call Cardrona to get earlybird rates on my ski pass. I've been there 4 times since 2005, and skied most of the resorts - but is it your opinion that Cardrona has/will have the best park? Or is remarkables just as good or..? Any thoughts would be nice..

from what i heard remarks last year was rad. cardrona was good but it just got too busy at the lift at the bottom in the holidays and on weekends. 45+ minutes is not ideal for lapping

just wondering if cardies is now gonna have to take on the burton open and all the other stuff that snowpark had.

oh and i think heathr on here now runs the park at cardies, stoked for him!

This does suck, but everyone should take the opportunity to come and ski Treble cone instead. Not much of a park there but the natural jumps are amazing, kinda like the new Candide edit in La clusaz but shorter laps. No big attitudes just fun laps with the rat pack.

Cardrona park is really good, it's bound to be a lot busier though after this and make laps super slow which was already a problem

rumor has it, it will be closed for ever... the new owners have no intentions on building a park or pipe...

Yeah winter car testing facility... The world definitely needs another one of those. To those asking remarks or cardies...'remarks park is better IMO, more chill and the hill is on a less steep grade, cardies is too steep and quite icy. However, wanaka is definitely better than qt to live in for a long period of time. It's more relaxed and you get to know people, QT is mostly drunk Aussies (not that there's anything wrong with that, they're hilarious) there for a week on a trip and then they split, so there's less of a scene. As such I'd go with cardies, park isn't quite as good, but wanaka more than makes up for it, plus you can usually hitch for free

It really sucks to see no more Snowpark. Such a fun place. I was really hoping that SHPG would use their deep pockets to make Snowpark even better. Unfortunately they only wanted the lodging and parking lot. They have no intention of ever doing anything with Snowpark.

It is definitely still worth making the trip. Cardrona will never have the vibe of Snowpark but with a record snow the park is already looking good. The triple line opened yesterday at 40' 50' 65' and there are already 30 total features going. So far it has not been any more crowded then usual but I am sure that will pick up as the year goes on.

I'm bringing 40 of us over there next Thursday for 11 days. Shit's going to get real. Sydney Uni also has about 120 people in Queenstown at the same time.
