SNOW IN THE EAST, SNOW IN THE EAST!!!!!!!

Today feels downright cold actually because there's a decent wind, and it's only 49 degrees, which is 30 degrees colder than it was 2 days ago at this time.

I know right. I wore a coat to work today. Crazy since last week it was about 80 degrees out.

ahhh finally, it stopped being 88 degrees all day, and it rained today and now its 65, the forecast for the next week is 60-40 degree temps, im stoked...winter is coming!

Holy shit. Mount Snow isn't screwing around with pushing their new snowmaking system and "gunning" (don't mind the bad pun) for first on the east.

That's pretty awesome news for the East Coast!

they would be idiots to do that. so the snow lasts for a day? its gonna warm up next week again anyway, so its just a tease

I'll take what i can get right now. It would be nice to have a kick ass early season but i would rather it be like last year and have a warm december so that we can get more lake effect off of ontario come febuary.

they would never be that stupid. Maybe they are testign out thier guns but they are not really trying to get started on the season.

I doubt they will start laying snow this weekend, but it shouldn't be that far off. The 15-day trends are showing further cooling and continued near freezing levels at night straight through. There are no signs of any more dramatic warm-ups.

We will be seeing below average to average temperatures for the forseeable future.

this happens every year. It gets cold they make snow to early. Then it gets warm and rains and it all melts. They waste lots of money and end up opening later in the end. I want an early start just like everybody else. It just doesent make sense.

It's marketing, and in most cases, it's worth it's weight in the money lost, due to the fact that you just convinced your customer base and potential customers that you are committed to getting operations open as soon as possible.

Look at the heat Killington is taking for already stating that they will not be opening until later in November.

Sitting around and waiting for permanant cold on the east coast is not going to win you any customers.

It's only october people, so don't get too excited. But i am hoping that this winter will be better than the last 2, cause they sucked balls!

yeah but why do u think they are starting late. I would imagine that the people making decisions are smarter then me and you and have decided that they will make more money by opening later. Most people dont think about skiing untill they have snow in thier back yards anyways.

So you figure the people making the decisions at all the other resorts who start snowmaking early are less suited to make the decisions than yourself?

I don't think early season snowmaking hurts a resort, and it certainly helps them open sooner than not either way.

Well, there are a bunch of resorts in the Northeast that are shooting for early November targetted opening dates, and Mount Snow wants to tout their new snowmakers and have stated they want the crown for earliest opening in the east.

These things lead me to believe we aren't that far off from seeing snowmaking coming out of Mount Snow, if night-time temperatures allow, which they could very well be in the coming 2 weeks as the weather patterns are suggesting slightly below average temperatures.

Of course, this is all speculation.

think PR, it makes perfect sense. sunday river  does it every single year. they blow snow the first night it gets cold enough and it makes it way into the boston papers and gets people thinking snow. time to buy a pass, start planning trips. etc.

Exactly.

Marketing. Sure it costs a lot to make snow when it's warm, but they don't do it for the hell of it.

this monday was 83 high. wednesday was 55 high. tomorow is 44 high. first snow last year was october 11th. ahh its soo close

Yeah, but look at the heat they are taking for stating their date already. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt for sure.

I think people are up in arms due to the fact that they are paying more for seasons, and getting a shorter season than ever before.

Either way, cool weather is here finally!

we are going to have a good winter all over because instead of getting the warm southern winds we have been getting for the past 3 years we are going to get the cold northern winds this year

i hate living in connecticut. the west coast has snow and now vermont is getting snow but we are still like 2 months away from getting snow
