So ive been shooting so far this year with a t2i with just different sizes of zoom lenses but the glare off the snow on bright days have been whiting out most of my shots I hadn't been using a filter. Im thinking that this might have been my problem so i bought one but haven't used it yet. Does anyone have this problem and know what filters work best thanks. +k

assuming the whites are all blown out, basically what happens to gopros at mt. hood..crank down your iso/change to manual exposure first/crank down exposure

i would try just stopping down a little or boost your shutter speed a bit to retain some detail in the snow. then correct in post

Using shutter speed to control exposure is a major no-no.

Use an ND .09 + circular polarizer. Set your ISO and shutter to what you prefer, and control exposure with your aperture. It should land somewhere around f/5.6 - f/8, which is exactly where you want it.
