SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

Well, you've really done it now poppermost. Why should people have to have to pay for maps who already forked out $20 in order to support you guys. I'm down with some areas of the F2P model of game making but, you're just going to shun you're original supporters?

Unfortunately some content needs to be premium to make it interesting for our partners to join the game and allow us to continue developing new content. If we could give it all away for free, we would. We do our best to make everything as cheap as possible.

Remember that you can level up and earn free Credits. At level 60 you have like 650 credits.

Anyone played the beta on PS4 yet? Is it worth buying?

I'm going to be streaming this live tonight check my thread in NSG. I should be on some time before 7:30 PT. check thread for more details. I'll be posting a link in NSG also when I start streaming.

Hey, wondering when the placeable features are going to be implemented as well as there mechanics. Do you have to buy them (😒) our can you unlock them?

After playing the game on ps4 for around 3 hours I can say overall its pretty dope! (also has so much more potential) I hope you read this SNOW because I think there are some easy improvements to be made that are not changing physics or rotation or any of that stuff.

1) It would be so so SO much better if there was no "wind up" and you could turn while holding down pop. It is very difficult to adjust before a rail/jump/feature and then switch to the pop button. the wind up is ok but defiantly not necessary. This would dramatically improve the enjoyment of playing the game. I cannot stress enough how much better this would make the game.

2) speed issues? I have no clue how to improve this but sometimes it seems hard to gain speed.

3) markers: I kept accidentally setting markers because it is very easy to press down. why are there 3 of them? Maybe i didn't play the game long enough to figure this out.

4) Some grabs seem to look awkward. example: grabbing tail (needs to be smoother)

I know everyone is super stoked that there is a legit snow sports game out but the simpler/more user friendly the controls are the more enjoyable the game. While writing this I am just thinking about Skate 3 and Shredsauce. Skate 3 is just the perfect action sports game and controls (i know this is different and cannot be translated to SNOW) Shredsauce has the skier fluidity down. All grabs look smooth and has great rotations and what not.

So I've been playing the game for a couple of hours now and I'm having fun but there are some stuff that I hope will be changed in the final game.

- The grinding system is not intuitive at all. I get in front of a rail, just tap X and the guy literally flies over the entire rail without even touching it!

- On some jumps the visibility on flips is really bad (camera angle).

- Still haven't completely figured out how to do grabs...

I kinda regret games like the Tony Hawk series where everything was simpler. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

The Level Editor feature is in testing at the moment and will hopefully go live on SNOW Preview next week if things remain stable. We will also submit the update to Sony and are aiming to launch as soon as that has been approved. Hopefully by end of November, early December.

The feature, like snowmobiles, will be a paid unlock but will also come with a bunch of free props to place around the mountain. Props will be super cheap though - probably the cheapest items in the game. Based on the feedback in Preview we will adjust pricing.

1. Needs to be a windup otherwise you'll be throwing massive spins of tiny jumps. Performing big spins onto rails or other features that are more difficult to line up is part of the game's skill. As you get better you'll be able to time your winding up better and get more spin in tighter spaces. There are a few things that we can improve to making lining up jumps better though, and we hope to implement them soon.

2. Try the next update (0.9.0). At the end of the day though, speed will be slower on flatter areas. Push and tuck are your friends, but if we make it faster on flat you'll just end up flying off the mountain where it's steep.

3. This will be fixed in 0.9.0. There are 3 session markers that you can place across the mountain. Session Markers are persistent so they remain even when you log off. Place them in your favorite places so you can go back to them easily.

4. This is because they're all pose based and we blend between them. If we can afford motion capture and a dedicated technical animator, we would be able to make this look better.. eventually!

The more detailed a game is, the harder it is to make it all work perfectly. As I hope it's clear by now, we have the sport's best interest at heart and will continue trying to nail the gameplay. We agree that Skate is a benchmark (remember, it was made by nearly 100 people vs SNOW's 7) and will eventually get there.

Grinding will be a lot better in 0.9.0 - but remember, you need to slow down to hit rails. You can just fly at them and expect to be locked on. Speed check :)

No camera improvements planned atm, but I'll bring it up with the team.

Grabs on keyboard are with arrow keys, with gamepad (play the tutorial?) you use shoulder button(s) and Right Stick. RB + RS Up = Right handed Nose Grab. RB + RS Down = Right handed Tail Grab, etc.

My game doesn't work on PC now. Just shows a black screen at launch.

Alt + Enter - otherwise check your drivers.

Thanks for the answer! When will 0.9.0 come out? I play on PS4.

Sorry for the dub post but would it also be possible to make it possible to press/manual while just normally skiing or boarding, would make butters look better and would allow another element of style.

This game is so hype, I love it so much. The one bad thing about it is that gear is WAY too difficult to unlock. I've played about 10 hours and have only unlocked one pair of bindings and I don't have enough coins to unlock anything else. I don't know if it's just me being trash at the game but I find that new gear takes a very long time to get which doesn't really make the game too fun because you have to work so hard and so long just to get some pants. Other than that, amazing game.

Hey guys,

First let me say, SICK game! I've been tracking progress from your original announcement on here/Facebook and to see it come to fruition has got to be a hugely rewarding experience. Having worked with software developers though, I know it's a monumental task implementing changes so having that in mind...here is my feedback. I'm playing on my ps4.

1. Speed.

I read through the last several threads and I completely understand that skiing/snowboarding is a gravity sport and flatter areas mean less speed. Free roam on the mountains is no problem, but events and slopestyle...NEVER enough speed. On the Fochi course, I have to skip jump #1 just to hit the next two with any speed. If there is a way to fix this for park/slopestyle situations, I would be all for it. It's extremely difficult to enjoy the game when you're casing every jump.

2. Grabs

Again, I get it without motion capturing it makes it very difficult to realistically depict grabs. It seems that there are just a very limited amount of grabs, perhaps it's user error. While not a perfect game, Amped 2, had a very good grasp on their grabs. Seems like there is a lot of room for improvement here. Mo-capturing, more devs, bigger budget, I get it.

3. Snow shading/texturing

This is my biggest complaint. When I'm shredding down the South Piste, I get snowblind. I can't see bumps, mounds, jumps, etc...it's awful. Texturing would definitely help here. I get going for realism but I don't play video games to get blinded by white voids that I'm currently skiing on.

I'll keep this brief but I just want to thank you all for sticking with your vision and making it happen, it's truly inspiring to see that your work progress through the years. The control for daylight, the graphics, the physics, everything is top notch and I'm really impressed. You all deserve our many thanks and hopefully we'll support the game by buying it. Seriously, thank you for the long hours and for bringing this product to market.

Thanks! Glad you like the game after waiting all this time to play it!

And thank you for your feedback - we're making this game for this community and will keep tweaking and trying new things until we get it right. As you said, software development isn't easy but hopefully by now everyone can see that we're not giving up easily.

To your points..

Fochi is probably the worst course we have. We made it super early on and our artists did their best to guess the features based on the photos we saw from the course. The scale is totally off and we never had a chance to update it with new assets so it doesn't play great. Have you tried the X Games course? There we worked directly from the 3D model ESPN sent us which resulted in a much faster and smoother course.

We test each park/course to make sure you have enough speed. Some are easier (/less punishing) than others but overall as long as you're not stopping in between features, you should be landing over the knuckle.

Limited grabs? There are 8 grabs for the left / right hand and another 8 for 2 handed grabs. Then you can tweak most of the single-hand grabs as well. We eventually want to let you customize what grabs you ride with, but for now we think that 16-24 grabs is pretty good!

We're constantly trying to make the lighting/textures better so that you don't get snowblind. I know it can be an issue. In single player, you can tweak the time of day with Dpad Right and position the sun so you have more contrast. I know, that's not a great excuse... our artists are looking into ways to solve this issue. The snow and environment are very detailed, but it comes down to how everything works together in the end - we'll figure it out eventually!

Is there any chance of removing the time limit on the big air and rail jam parts of the game?

I don't see the point in this aspect at all. Do others agree or is it just me?

I totally agree. On time trial and descent I get it, but on freestyle, freeride, etc (non-race courses) I don't understand why there is a time limit.

Also, I have been playing Snow quite often the past few days. Everything tends to run pretty smoothly, except that the game ALWAYS crashes after playing for a while. This is consistent, every time I play. One time it crashed it erased all my progress including items I had PAID for.

The reason it's there is to stop you from pushing back up the hill and riding the course again to get even more points. We try to find a time that gives you enough freedom to ride the course as you want. Hope that makes sense...

If you feel there are specific events that could use more time, let me know :)

That crash should be fixed in the next update. Are you on PC or PS4? On PC we are previewing the next update, so head over to Discord.gg/SNOWthegame and get a key to gain access.

Your progress/items will never be erased (everything is stored on our servers) so just reboot the game and it should return. Otherwise email bugs@poppermost.se and we can help (or tweet us).

I downloaded the game like 6 months ago but just played it for the first time like 2 hours ago. Rails are super hard to lock onto, can you do non surface swaps? I kinda wish the tutorial was a lot longer because I am really lost on what I am supposed to do.

I played for like 2 more hours and I figured out rails. The jump trick evaluator is really off. A ton of the time I will do a front flip and it calls it a bio 180 lol.

feel free to send the game.log and error.dmp files from the game's root directory to bugs@poppermost.se

We just launched 0.9.0 which includes the first implementation of the Prop Tool! This allows you to place rails and jumps (and more) wherever you want whenever you want. Add a back country kicker to make a sweet step up or piece together a bunch of features to make your own mini-park in the middle of the piste.

We've also added the new B&E 2016 course, which is challenging but extremely creative. Getting Gold in the event unlocks the dino helmet!

The update also includes lots of improvements, like quick switching of sports (through the Quick Select menu), new brands (sorry, all snowboarding brands) and improved grinding (not perfect, but much better).

For more information about the update...

Here is the blog post.

Here is the change list.

The update is SICK. Rails are a little easier which I never even complained about. And the new feature placement is rad. It makes everything a little more fun.

Both PC and PS4 - we will always update them at the same time.

Also, I vote that you guys use women characters soon. If I'm gunna spend hours looking at a person I prefer a girl.

We would too, just a lot of logistics to handle / sort out. Hard for our small team to manage it at this point.
