SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

Yes because the company is completely obligated to change their entire agenda for 75 users /s

The game is free and the producers are relying on in game purchases to pay themselves, give them a break...

Now that I look back it is really stupid. Does anyone know how to use boot camp and does it mess up your storage at all? Do the files transfer over from Mac to Windows?

New update fucked up the gameplay. Skier is kinda levitating above the snow.

Also anyone have any good camera settings? I don't like the new settings.

Also it would be cool if you guys gave back the ability to jump by pushing the right stick (on xbox conroller) down then up instead of just using A. It was much easier to get on rails with that.

For camera settings I think i have casual with no left/right option. Need todouble check when i get home.. But it makes the skiier centered and you can actually see whats ahead.

I personally like hitting A to jump, only problem with the controller is that you can tuck your spins to make them faster mid jump, the only way is to prewind before.

Used bootcamp a while back so that I could play SNOW. It requires you to basically cut your hard drive in half, so that half is run by Windows and half Mac. From what I know, this means that files do not transfer over. Some tips I would give are allow more space than you think you need when you partition the hard drive, I gave the WIndows side 20 GB for only playing SNOW and I still ran out of space because the Operating System itself is like 10 GB. Also, if you download a free version of Windows, it will eventually cause problems but they can be avoided for some time.

i swear, every update makes me either love the game more or wanna throw my controller across the room.

One update will fix something, youll get used to it and then the next update completely changes how the game is played and how it runs.

I understand changing little things like how we now have to hold down the set spin/spin faster button to crouch and pop compared to just holding down forward but why do the physics and gameplay change so much?

For me the game went from running smooth on medium settings at 1920 resolution and now it hardly runs smooth at 1024 resolution which looks like garbage.

at this point i may just put it down and hold onto hope of it coming out on ps4 one day

Welcome to game development :) A game is an evolving product throughout its development and can go from feeling amazing to totally broken in a day. Games usually feel pretty messy until the last few months where everything is finally merged and polished.

Unfortunately as the game becomes more complete and contains more content, it will require stronger PCs to run at maximum settings. This is totally natural, and I sympathize with you.

The good new is that PS4 is right around the corner :)

That makes perfect sense sorry for the frustration. I know it's still in development and I never played a game in this stage so that's why I'm getting frustrated. Keep up the great work

I'm very happy to hear that about ps4! I can't wait!!!

What are the chances of adjusting the brightness of the snow? At certain points the snow itself is so white you can't make out hills and jumps and variations in the pitch

Haven't played in a while, loaded it up for an hour or so today.

I love the way I can lap the park using a lift. The only real game to compare SNOW to is skate, which doesn't have the gravity problem (i.e. in skate, you don't have to go downhill). In snowsports you have to go all the way down before starting to go back up, and the lifts make that feel like your not having to actually restart the game. Also infinity park is awesome.

However, other than that I can't find many changes to how it used to be. The graphics are still really good, yet the animations and mechanics appear to been tweaked but not changed.

They suck.

Here's a few ways they need to improve:

1. Adjust to the terrain. If I'm traversing a 30 degree slope I'm still going to be keeping my body upright. The game needs to simulate how the rider (both ski and sb) adjusts his balance with respect to where he stands.

2. Air. Similarly to point 1, the rider should adjust for the terrain he's going to land on, like they do in skate. I I do a straight air over a normal kicker, then the rider should automatically rotate forwards to land smoothly. This would let me (the player) focus on the trick I'm doing.

3. Rail lock. God damn they're unplayable right now, which is a shame because some of the rails look really fun and flowing between features in the infinity park is awesome.

I'm not really enjoying backcountry riding either, but I can't think of any ways that could be improved easily. I don't like the animations or the riding mechanics. It just looks and feels really unnatural.

Fuck rail lock, learn to play better. Keeping it off is allowing more natural dynamics and hopefully nose/tail slides soon.

For BC, north facing and steep areas should have deeper pow, looser less locked in turn physics and should slow the skier down more. South facing areas should be harder, corn snow that you can rip GS turns on.

has anyone tried to use a controller? Using a keyboard is kinda hard to press all keys for tricks.

I've been trying to use an xbox controller but after 120 hours on a keyboard I'm having a hard time. I think the controller is better though

100% agree, my rail game is good in the game right now solely because of how hard it was to learn at first and it made me want to get better. You can engage a rail on your tips/tail right now and slide it, but I think they should implement a separate nose/tail slide animation. OR even how the spacebar acts as a "tweak" for grabs they can implement spacebar as a tweak for rails in combination of pressing an arrow key to indicate nose or tail press.

You can use a 360 controller no problem, if you learned on a keyboard though I don't think you're going to find the controller better. I personally think the keyboard allows for way more functionality between grabbing, key bindings and all that whereas a controller feels a little cramped and rushed.

1. We are working on this, but it's not easy. The tech behind it is called IK (inverse kinematics) and is extremely complex. We have done a bunch of work on it and hope to add it in a future update. This will provide some dynamic leg suspension, the ability to align the feet to different surfaces and various other cool things.

2. Some people want this, some people feel like it should be up to the player. We can look into adding it as an option that you can enable/disable.

3. We agree that it's not perfect and are looking into solutions. We don't want to "lock" you onto the rail, but we need to remove some of the strange bugs that can occur.

Animations will be improved over time. A lot of "feeling" also comes from effects, which will be added in the future as well. The physics of riding are really advanced, but can be held back by the polish that we haven't had time to focus on yet.

Hoping to submit to Sony in the next few weeks. Assuming we pass (takes 5 days) we will be ready to launch the Beta.

Check it out: www.snowthegame.com

SNOW is the first true freeride and freestyle game for skiers and snowboarders. Based on the free-to-play model, SNOW looks to restart the winter sports genre taking the player back to basics refining scale, physics and controls to capture the majesty of the mountain. SNOW is a game for riders, by riders.

SNOW will be released for free later this year and developed according to feedback from the community.

Here's the trailer:http://vimeo.com/29075248

I think you guys had an opportunity, and tried to milk it for every cent, there for ruining the game.

a unity 3d game has better mechanics and feel to it, and now Steep is going to cast you guys into the shadows further.

Congratulations on being complete ass hats and selling out. Trying to at least.

Is it the lack of communication from SNOW that prompted this message?

Milk it for every cent? Really dude? The game is free. Every single f2p game has micro transactions within because, hello, they need to make money somehow. You also just pointed out a huge, shitty factor. "Steep is going to cast you into the shadows further". Why is that a good thing, because your entitled self didn't get the content you specifically wanted? A game is getting more exposure than SNOW solely because a more reputable and successful studio is developing it which is a pretty shitty situation. SNOW probably has a team less than half the size of STEEP developing the game, which again, puts them at a disadvantage. The skiing mechanics in STEEP look exactly the same if not even shittier than SNOW's.

They look incredibly different.

Tell me the game isn't completely pointless, you can't rank up fast enough to actually have fun trying to unlock stuff. You literally need to buy credits to be able to buy anything past your first set of goggles. It's not getting more hype than snow because it is 'more reputable,' or 'successful,' do you really think skiers care about knowing that shit? It's because snow died when it launched for free, people realized it was pointless.

As for 'They have a disadvantage,' sorry, bud. this is the real world, you don't get handicaps for not having enough resources to do your job properly. Maybe you don't understand that though, you're the one pouring your heart out on NS for a video game.

Great ending, 10/10. Did I really rustle your jimmies that much you're resorting to passive aggressive insults?

Also point out to me where I said they have or even deserve a "handicap". I literally said the reason STEEP is coming out of the gate with more momentum is because they are a bigger developer studio and that is 100% a fact.

Let's ask them...

Hey Snow Team,

Does the impending release of Steep have any affect on you and your production plans?

Haven't heard anything from ya in a while since the ps4 beta tease...

I'm thinking they might have failed sony's QC tests, which is why we've heard nothing of it so far.

If I were SNOW devs now I'd seriously be considering a total re-write. You still have the assets, just clear out the junk and code the whole thing from scratch again. Build better physics, integrate IK from day one, innovate with the control scheme, optimise for low-end systems.

But that level of effort seems above a content-over-gameplay freemium dev team like poppermost.

Sorry for the delay guys - we know how eager many of you are to get the game on your PS4!

Here's an update: We have submitted to Sony a few times now, and each time they keep finding things wrong with the way the game interacts with the console, like how the game handles a corrupt save file. The gameplay is solid and the game runs great, but we're getting slowed down by these platform bugs.

We are preparing another submission for this week, so fingers crossed it's the last one.

If it is, then we can set a release date (probably 2-3 weeks after we get approved, so Sony marketing can do their thing). If things go well with the next submission, that means a release date mid/late September.

Hope that helps! Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get this out asap. We want it live on PS4 as badly as you guys do!
