SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

The new update is messing up my "skills" :( i do like the new animations but i feel like spinning is much slower now and the half pipe is still fairly glitchy.

SNOW is the first true freeride and freestyle game for skiers and snowboarders. Based on the free-to-play model, SNOW looks to restart the winter sports genre taking the player back to basics refining scale, physics and controls to capture the majesty of the mountain. SNOW is a game for riders, by riders.

SNOW will be released for free later this year and developed according to feedback from the community.

Here's the trailer:http://vimeo.com/29075248

I LOVED THIS GAME BUT NOW IT WONT LET ME PLAY NOW FOR SOME REASON MAKES ME SAD :(

ay yo Mac users, check out you riding 2 it's better than shredsauce but not as good as snow

hmmm imo:

-snow is the best for graphics and just immersion and will become best all round

-Shredsauce is the best right now for physics, you can tweak your tricks to the millimetre with is awesome. Lil bit unrealistic on rails and somewhat too easy after a while.

-Yourriding, my fav for rails so it's actually kinda hard to get the tricks, and you can fall over which is nice compared to shredsauce. Jump tricks physics are shit tho, doesn't let you do anything but the core animation for a few tricks. Plus grabs aren't available and it's a pain to level up.

Any way if you could get native oculus support into snow. I haven't read this thread and i'm not sure if this has been talked about before, but I feel like that SNOW with oculus could lead to some really fun gameplay.

Any thoughts as to why the game automatically sets the graphics to low after I try and change them? I just deleted and reinstalled the game and it keeps happening.

When will the s-games map be out for non testers?

We ran into a few unexpected physics bugs linked to fixing the half-pipe physics. We're trying to get this fixed as soon as possible so everyone can play S Games level but we're also deep into prepping M5 (Closed Beta) so we're trying to juggle both.

Little review of latest snow test update:

played a few hours on snow test on the sgame level (crashed a few times at first and then didn't have any other issues). I dunno if you've implemented new rail physics, or the rails in sgame level are better (they are) or i'm just getting better at rails (or all of that together), cos i feel i can finally ski rails pretty good now (a part from switch ups, those are nearly impossible).

So yeah, GREAAAAT JOB on the sgames level, really nailed it (a part from the big air jump, it gives you less air than the 2nd and 3rd kickers of the slopestyle section, couldn't even huck a triple back with prepping and tucking)

On the physics side of things, 2 big things that make me reaaaally annoyed:

-When you prep left or right before jumping, it makes you turn too, which basically makes it impossible to preps properly, unless you're carving in, and still, it looks very unatural. Maybe have it so it locks down when you press space and left/right?

-The key for butters and for "spin/flipfaster/tuck" key is the same (shift) and that can be a real pain, can't really butter without then spinning fast, and it just doesn't feel right that it's the same key. Should be pretty easy to fix right?

smaller things:

-you can prep for frontflip, backflip, and right/left but not lincolns. Kinda annoying when you're combining lincoln and left/right (which is what I do for most tricks), which makes it really hard to throw dubs. Please make lincoln "prepable" too!

Ideally, it would be perfect if you could prep left/right+lincoln+up/down to throw some fast tricks other than corks and weirdly looking rodeos/mistys. So the player would be holding down space+lincoln+up/down+left/right (what i suggested in my first comment would have to be working for that) before releasing space, keeping all the other keys down and adding shift to speed up the rotation. That way it would be much easier (and just possible tbh) to throw realistic dub rodeos/underflip/misty/overflips and such.

So yeah that's it from me (oh and yeah, rail mechanics still need working, switch ups...pls pls pls). Big bravo to all the devs, you guys have come such a long way it's incredible!!!

- The new physics stuff has made rails better, but there's still a lot to do. We're going to get real animations in place that'll make it feel even nicer. Also trying to figure out a good system for scissoring too (locking onto the rail if you land perfectly).

- More physics tweaks will/have be made to make sure the jumps act as they should.

- We're redoing the loadup system (as it broken when we fixed physics) so I'll see what we can do about removing the slight turn when you load up. This is just a variable, so it's easy to fix (pl_skiturningspeedloadup or something). If everyone thinks you shouldn't turn at all, then we can totally remove it.

- Yeah, buttering can be changed from shift. Just not sure what key to make it. I never really had issues with shift getting in the way with my spinning speed, but again - if you guys think it should be changed I can look into it.

- New loadup system will allow all direction have loadups.

- Will look into what's stopping switchups from working

We have an early implementation but it's pretty buggy (check our steam community page for more info). Don't expect anything more soon as there is a huge amount of work needed to get this to work properly.

we have to completely rework the rotation system, which is why it's taking so long to get this update out. Our goal is to have something by the end of the week or we'll have to find a plan B.

Any idea when Snow will be able to be played on a mac?

The same happens to my but with very high graphics setting, its quite annoying. My comp can just about handle it but it gets a bit jittery at times and i have to set the resolution lower than id like.

Awesome!

Holllyyy shit the new rotation system is crazy! I took 1 run on the s games slopestyle course and threw a switch 10 on the 1st jump, trip cork 9 on the second and trip cork 1440 on the last one .-.

Anddd tips and tails now lift up when you butter. Rotation system is definitely gunna take a little time to get used to. Can't really spin on rails anymore.

Not the best news to share, but we have decided to delay the 4.4 update and instead include it in the 5.0 (Closed Beta) update which comes out on March 10.

We really wanted to get the S Games level out asap but there were some code issues that we needed to fix. Now it's just too tight before the big 5.0 update to spend time getting this release shipped (and supporting it once it's out).

Really stoked for this update. You guys have come so far.

I'm so excited for m5! Are you going to return some of the old grabs like the bow and arrow, the double tail and nose grabs?

Holy shit, if I can figure out how to lose this judder 1st person mode in Oculus is going to be THE SHIT.

wondering if it has to do with running the new runtime? (0.4.4)

really new trick?

Some time after the full release. The game hits beta next month and still has more bugs than a one star rural Bangladeshi hotel room, so that might not be for a while. (I must point out that compared to other early access games at a similar stage, SNOW actually has relatively few bugs. That said, it doesn't feel as refined as other games I've played pre-beta).

word thanks. think i should think "2016" in my head? tell you what, ill do that to be safe and not get impatient

Near-the-top-of-the-page NOOB POST

A quick post with some FAQ's that seem to get asked all the time. Maybe a mod can attach some to the OP or I'll just repost this every page, just because it's really annoying when this thread gets bumped to read the same stupid question for the fiftieth time. Thought I should point out that I have nothing to do with the dev time, so everything below is my understanding of the situation. I think it's almost entirely correct though.

Q: Where do I get it?

A: Buy the game here:http://store.steampowered.com/app/244930/

Register for (free) beta here:http://www.snowthegame.com/

Q: Will it come out for Mac/ when will it be out for Mac?

A: It's likely SNOW will come out for Mac in the future but SNOW do not control

when. SNOW is built using Cryengine, an engine that is currently only

compatible with windows. There have been rumours that Crytek are adapting

Cryengine for Mac, but I don't know any more about this.

Tl, dr: Mac could happen in the future, but not now.

Q: Will it come out for next gen?

A: SNOW has been announced for PS4, but there is no set timescale. It is

unlikely to happen until the game leaves beta, my guess is 2016 at the earliest.

Q: Can I play this on my mac?

A: Sort of. You can run Windows on your Mac in boot camp. I shall not tell you how to do this, use google. Virtual machines are inefficient.

Q: What system specs do I need?

A: From the steam page, minimum 2GHz dual core processor, 4GB RAM, lower-mid range GPU. SNOW will not run on computers using integrated graphics. You will get an error message and the game will fail to start. Steam is not idiot-proof and will not stop you buying the game. That is most macbooks and low-end laptops. Check before you buy, if you buy a game that doesn't work on your computer that's your fault and no-one elses.

Q: When will it be free?

A: Seriously? You can't find $15 to give to the wonderful people making the biggest skiing game ever? Here you go. Click sign up for beta, you'll get access next month.

I want to give you guys 15 bucks, but is there anything beneficial apart from getting two weeks early access and that helmet? I can wait for the closed beta.

13352902:SNOWTheGame said:
wait and spend those $15 in game instead of items that you really want

Will "gold level" alpha players still have to pay for outerwear? Also any hint on when the b&e invitational will be available for testers?
