SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

Fuck... i have to wait one more day for my bank funds to get to my paypal. Can't use credit card, because I don't have one. I honestly can't wait to play this.

Update: So far not impressed. I understand it is alpha. But I would have rather not had it released at this point yet. Game just crashed. Store is glitchy, haven't figured out how to get in the game really yet. ahaha No in game music. No settings yet?

and spawn screen blows a monkeys ass. I can't get passed it. I click spawn and the map becomes huge and expands down and right then. nothing happens.

@snow is there a bug forum or something I can report problems?

yea mine crashed a few times. i got a lil further when i lowered the res but when it starts, the character just falls and moves on his own and keeps doing that everytime i spawn

Yeah I've tried. Had about 12 crashes so far. Closest I've gotten to playing was being on the mountain with the character not being able to stand up. He fell immediately every time.

It said I had an unsupported graphics card. That kind of sucks, because I have a new, nice laptop. It should be able to handle this game easily. I went into the settings and turned graphics to the lowest setting. Didn't help much.

GOT IT TO SPAWN! hahaha controls are whack. Is there a full list of them somewhere. Also what is the global command to change brightness. all the snow is wayyyyy too blown out and i can't tell what I am skiing over. Can you provide me with the list of console commands?

yea same thing happens to me. its unplayable right now. Hope this is a quick fix

i doubt its the PC im on. I put the lowest settings on and have a brand new 64bit ,4GB, i5 machine. This work PC doesnt have a dedicated video card but it should play on the lowest setting.

Yeah, my Macbook pro isn't liking it all that much. The learning curve reminds me so much of SKATE, its hard as fuck right now.

Playing on Athlon II x4 3.2ghz processor, 16gb ram, 1gb gddr5 amd radeon 5770hd card. Runs absolutely fine. Just disappointed in not knowing the controls and not being able to change them. or the game brightness.

playing fine here. somewhat glitchy but I attribute that to the fact that I don't have a dedicated graphics card.

Yeah I would buy but by the sounds of it my computer won't be able to handle it looks like I'll be waiting for free release or for it to come out on PS3.

the only thing that document tells you is how to lower the res and the controls.

anyone actually have the specs to run it? to see if thats the issue some of us are having.

I cant see this game needing 16gb of memory to run on low res.

I typed sys_spec 5 by accident in the console and it somehow made it playable. It brings up a bunch of text in the top right but its better than nothing.

it has troubles streaming stuff that isnt windowed. it cant see the game. Let me see if I can get it to work.

Fuck macs...just bought and downloaded it in my virtual machine, tried to play, was told my graphics card isnt supported, game crashed.

Really want to play this game...any advice?

running on virtual machine, does not work. It just shows a black screen on start up, ingame cursor shows and then dissappears. uuurghhhh

dude, I'm going through the same shit.

someone halppppppp plzzzz

really bummed that i'm not playing right now.

You guys should make lower settings. The low settings still seem pretty high, and I'd be willing to go much lower for performance.

im watching moosen float to the top of the mountain right now haha. hope this works on my home pc at least till then im stuck watching a live stream

Some initial thoughts and comments to the devs.

Been playing for a bit now, and there is major potential here, but the biggest issues I see at the moment (other than crashes, instability, stuff like that) is the controls.

The controls are sluggish as hell.

When I am on my skis in real life, I feel extremely nimble, fast and quick. Skiing in snow feels like I am driving a semi up hill through the mud. The max speed appears to be about 40mph, which isnt nearly fast enough, and even the sharp turns you have, are still huge, and completely kill your speed.

I am just going list things off here Id like to see changed.

-Why do I have to tap W to pole push, just let me hold it until I am at max speed and tuck from there.

-The 'jump' combo is terrible. Having to hold down, then up on the arrows generally causes me to almost always do the trick bound to the up arrow, by accident, just make the spacebar be jump, press to charge, release to jump, much, much simpler.

-Speaking of grabs, when I push a button combo for a grab, it needs to immediately start happening, none of this .5-1 second delay stuff, same with nose/tail presses on rails. By the time I get the nose press going, the rail is done.

-Speaking of rails, the hit-box in the game you need to hit to actually get on the rail is way too small. It seems to be just the length of the players boots, if you miss that little box, your tips/tails either clip through the rail, or you just eat shit, no possibility of saving the grind. This could be mitigated by making the basic skiing controls/jumping more responsive, as listed in point one, right now you simply dont have enough control to hit anything but the most basic of rails, let alone the crazy shit you put in that terrain park.

-Why is it sometimes when I hit a rail, dead center, perfectly sideways, I just eat shit for no reason?

-Add skating to gain speed, not just pole pushing.

-The rotation system. It seems like if you are going for realism, (which it seems you are), you need to completely revamp the rotation system. Why can I change directions mid-air? It makes things more confusing. Suggestion for revamping the system - Make it so you have to charge your spin before you leave the ground. Want to do a 360? Hold space(the new jump key, as listed earlier), and hold left or right arrow for half a second before launch. Lincoln loop? Space and q or e before launch, release the key and your going to spin at a speed based on how long you held the charge for before hand.

I think thats about all I have for now for thoughts, will post more as I play more.

It's not quite as glitchy as it appears. It is because it is streaming. so far it's pretty fun. physics are alright. rotation is kinda messed up it calls a lot of scrubbed 360's 180's. then skis dont seems to float well on hardpack and stuff. I like the free float though.

thanks for the detailed feedback - we are compiling everything we get and will make a post about it next week and start discussing ways to tackle the issues

NH_OPERATOR nailed it ^

I'm definitely coping a new graphic card for this one. Physics are on point and so are the textures and shades, but the lag coupled with the sluggish controls makes it real hard to play. The control learning curve is not so bad but the way you have to pop makes up for a very frustrating experience, especially in the park. Backcountry is amazing though and hucking enormous backies feels awesome.

Big ups Poppermost, you definitely earned my money.

Thanks!

Once we have got through the next few days we want to work with you guys to improve the game. We have included ALL of our variables that control the game's systems and will explain how you can help tune them with us.
