Snoqualmie 09-10

according to the facebook page it will "most likely not reopen til tomorrow"

so it probably will be open, but i wouldn't count on it

well thank you for that insight. dont really follow their facebook.

what else is there to do though? besides hiking the mini-park..

the main reason the park never opened today is because it took a couple hours to deice the quad then a wheel fell off. central wasn't running when i left at four.

that freezing rain was gnarly where it wasn't groomed i actully could not stop on something as steep as holiday

2 inches of it stuck to my friends car which took about a half hour to remove then the battery was dead.

today was interesting

fuck, i don't know what i'm going to do now. its supposed get up to 37 degrees so i'm thinking it might soften up.

anyone else going to give it a try?

it's just occupied peter.

not preoccupied...

but anyways. yeah, conditions off the groomers were worse than i've ever seen before. but the groomed stuff was surprisingly quite good, although some landings and take-offs could've used a little work as the day progressed and bomb holes and bumps were created. visibility was pretty terrible and i only hit the real line of jumps once, although they felt pretty nice, but even kickier than usual.

A light is starting to appear at the end of the tunnel. It's still a rare day when a forecast like this looks good.

From the NWAC site:

"On Saturday, the first of several gradually strengthening and overall colder weather systems should move into the west coast.

While the first such weather system should still slightly split, it is

still expected to bring increasing light to moderate rain or snow to

the region at substantially lowering freezing levels and moderate to

strong winds later Saturday morning and afternoon. Also, strong

easterly surface flow across the Cascades should help maintain most

precipitation as snow near the passes with some freezing rain possible

mainly west approaches. A stronger disturbance rotating out of the

slowly eastward moving Gulf of Alaska low should bring slightly heavier

precipitation at continued relatively low freezing levels Sunday

(mostly snow), with the heaviest precipitation from the associated

upper flow expected well to the south across California."

yeah!

but actually snoqualmie is the best its been all year in my opinon. third medium jump is up. AND ITS SLUSH, I'm going back for seconds today.

so any reports of how its been in the afternoon? was thinking of heading up there after school tomorrow cuz we might actually get some sun breaks..... maybe.

Super fun today, super soft snow and nobody up there... then the power went out. I guess they got central express goin on auxiliary though.

today was sick! third jump is up pretty slushy earlier then fatty flakes started to fall making everything slow but they are staking up quick.

moved around the jibs at the bottom. after jump three there is the lift tower with a fat hop on then to the right are 4 jibs with no hop ons lined up super close together.

right side of the pipe is either flat box jump jump or battleship flat rail (super smooth) up box. both feed into down rail (crappy) corrigated pipe flat box.

then they built a rythem section alongside the 125 foot rail that you could either jump or use to hit the rail multiple times.

does anyone know why they chopped off a couple feet from the corrigated?

Ohnestly the park is fucking retarded right now. the 125ft rail is a waste of time and resources. God knows how long park crew spent setting that pos up. ANd the 4 jib line at the bottom, lift tower, lift towr, box and shotgun rail is a waste of 4 good jibs. Everything else is ok for now. I dont see why they dont put up more shit.

It just always pisses me off with how many things snoqualmie has and how it takes until the last month of skiing for them to get aobut 80% setup. park crew is lame as ever and doesnt do SHIT. typical fucking snocompton.

Yea i dunno Dev, i though it was pretty fun. Im getting sick of everyone loving to hate on snoqual park crew so much, its kinda annoying. Slushy park laps were good today. Plus andreweckles did a 360 onto an urban down rail and landed 1 ski... that was a new one

I always have fun at snoqualmie regardless. It just gets old seeing the same shit done year after year. No major improvements. Just stupid decisions that hurt the quality of the park more than anything.

Is there any hope of seeing a pipe this year? I just realized the last time I rode a pipe was senior year of high school at Jackson's Hole, 7 years ago.

andrew, that's filthy.

i wish i could go tomorrow, sounds like a fun setup to me. i like what they did with the line on the right side of the park, and i skied it all day sunday because the visibility was so bad, but i have not yet seen this third jump i hear of. i can't wait.

Test Edit: First Run Through Central Park from Ryan Killory on Vimeo.

here's a little something i put together from some footage my brother shot a couple weeks ago on our gopro. just a test, but there'll be more in store this weekend.

ill be up there but does anyone know if the whol;e park will be open tommarow cause there doing that boxes for days thing?

That was an enjoyable weekend. I just wish the Boxes for days stuff got re-arranged for Sunday. No one was hitting it and I missed the big C a lot in the park. The jumps were pretty good though, but it was tough to get enough speed for the step up.

step up was easily the funnest feature in the park today. just had to bomb from the second jump down. unfortunately my buddy ed might have torn his other acl today. so give him some vibes. he was absolutely killin' it today on his bents.

+vibes for sure. I got the speed alright a few times but even with strait lining it I was having problems. I think I just suck.

The boxes for days was ridiculous, I saw a couple people try and hit it this afternoon but the dragontail boxes were arranged in a weird spot. Just a waste of time I think. They seriously need to get another line in up top with some legit skier free friendly rails.
