my friend and i are in france right now, i am 17 and he is 16 and you have to be 18 for hard alcohol in france, but they let you buy it anyways. we are trying to figure out how to get it back through customs. one idea is to claim less than 100 dollars and hope they dont check our shit and another is to put it in water bottles on our carryons. anyone have any good ideas?

"hey mom, can you go buy me a bottle of vodka, thanks"

yeah, i can see that happening

just put in in water bottles if its seethrough(sp?) like vodka.

if its colored like whiskey use a bottle of nestea, or something like that and put it in your carry on bag.

Yeah, definitely not worth risking getting caught, customs can be a bitch, but then other times they don't search anything you have...so it's a toss up really, I wouldn't try it if I were in your place, but hey, where else are you going to be able to find awesome french bottles, but if you're just gonna put it in water bottles, and not save the actual bottles...who knows?

What would they be busting you for? Cant you say its a gift for your parents? As long as the bottles arnt open, i think you should be okay. The worst that could happen is they take it from you.

I wouldn't worry about it. They've got bigger things to worry about than just underage drinkers. Don't claim it and don't mark anything on your customs form that will make them look in your bags. Also, depending on your airport and your travelling situation, if you have to catch a transfer when you re-enter the country, go through the customs agent that deals with flight transfers... they're less likely to want a search anyways.

I claimed 4L of wine once (one person is only allowed to bring 1.5), and the guy at customs just said "you're bringing 4L of wine?" I said "yup" and he said "have a nice day" and let me through without having to pay duty on it. They don't care.

have you ever been through customs? if you're under age, you cant have alcohol on you, period.

i wouldnt bother bringing any back, but if you must, put it in your carry on in inconspicuous bottles.

i bought a shit load when i was over there and just stuck it in my suit case that got checked. everything was cool

all you need to do is buy it and put it in your bags. They would check your bags in france so there would be no problem. I know kids that do that. You can bring back a lot of stuff like hookahs, cigars. All you need to worry about is your parentslooking in your bag

yeah i have a great idea... just don't claim anything.... they probably won't check you bag.. when they ask you did u but anything be like other than food not really... its a easy trick

DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR CARRY ONS. You will get Owned. They take your water and put it on a machine that checks for chemicals and alcohol man. I'd try putting it in the luggage. Worst case senerio they probobly just comfiscate it.

id say no to the carry on business...id out it in your checked luggage and not claim anything or claim something other than that for a bit of a distraction ... like can you only have so many francs on you coming back...that was true in africa i dunno...but yeah just claim something that isnt a big deal at all then claim nothing else...they will think you are just a scared kid

^yea, how are they going to be able to tell your a minor if its checked. they wont. even in a worst case scenario they can only take it away. im underage and have brought bottles of wine back, no problem.

I was just in france last summer when i was 17 and i bought two bottles of wine and just put them in my stow away bag and didnt claim them and they were fine. The worst they will do is take them out of your bag. They dont really take the time to check whether the owner of the bag is of legal age or not. Its just a matter of how much you bring back. You cant take much more than 2 bottles. They told us only two but i doubt if you take three or four it'll be a huge problem.

hey there i am the friend referred to in the first post. the biggest concern is that we are trying to get hard alcohol, which you have to be 18 to buy in france, but we are 16 and 17. we bought it no problem but we are just concerned that if they do notice that we have it, they may ask how we got it, since we're under 18.

when you go through customs do you have your bag with you or do they only check carry on?

When we went back we dropped our bags off at the counter and then went through customs. There was no point that they saw what was in the bags while we were around them to ask questions. It might be different depending on what airline u are flying with. Some kids in my group even took it on the plane with them. But that was wine and not hard alcohol. But we were going back into the states where either way its illegal so i dont know what to tell you. If I were you I'd try putting it in my stowaway bag.

oh yes... bring back more contraban while you're at it. Cuban cigars and grown produce. That way if you do get caught US customs willl be even more pissed.

I brought two bottles of tequila back from mexico when I was 18. I didn't claim anything and my bag wasn't checked. Keep them sealed and if they are found the worst thing I could really see them doing would be to confiscate it and give your parents lip. Or if your parents are really cool they might even claim it as theirs if customs gives confronts them about it. George Bush gives the state department better things to do than to arrest kids sneaking liquor into the country.

Or at least I would would hope so... BECAUSE WE ARE AT TERROR ALERT CODE YELLOW!!! ... ... ...

well we're leaving in a couple hours and i think we decided against it....nopt worth the risk and we don't want to miss a flight.

but absinthe would be sweet.

as if asking a friend to buy you alcahole isn't dumb.

"hey dude, whats up. wanna buy me a bottle of vodka because i'm to young to buy it myself and i'm scared to try with a fake id, because i might get caught"

all we ever do is ask older people to buy it for us....they dont care especially if we know them...it a lot easier and then we dont have to spend money on fakes...however a few of my friends do have fakes which helps also

dont even bother...just come up to canada...we have that here...you get it free with the purchase of a chocolate bar...they ar practically giving it away

but seriously they do have that up here.

when i went to Quebec they checked most of our water bottles, like they'd ask us to take a sip of it. like if it was poison and we were goin to poison the pilot hhaha. but if you took a sip and then like flinched cause it's vodka they'd probly like smell it andbe like wtf?

its easy, i smuggled back vodka for my brother and his friend (cause they forget it when they left) and i was 14, customs in boston never said anything. its easy as hell.

Canada doesn't have the real stuff. The real stuff can only really be bought in Europe and elsewhere. The "fake" Absinthe sold in canada is essentially only grain alcohol and isn't fully distilled in wormwood.

The component of real absinthe they say that can cause hallucination is thujone I believe.

naw ur right the wormwood has the hallucinagenic properties.

and yeah you can only order it online

When me and my buddies went down to the Bahamas for spring break, we accidently smuggled weed across the Canada/US border... and then we smoked it at the hotel in spokane... the the next day we made it all the way to the bahamas, and realised that it was in our fucking carry on bags... Haha.. oh yea we each brought back a 40 into the us. And nothing ever happened. Just put it in a plastic botte so the scanners dont pick it up.. and Ya they would probally just take it away.

haha....I've brought Slovak beer to the US as presents to my friends here. And that was when I was 19...2 years ago.

And as for Absinthe, I was just home in Slovakia a month ago, and both me and my gf had standard and black Absinthe one night until we were substantially drunk....NO HALLUCINATIONS. I did have some fucked up dreams about being friends with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and the Italian mafia mixed in it, but while I was awake there was nothing special other than a serious buzz and loss of coordination.

I remember reading in Maxim awhile back that Absinthe had become legal, and they tested a bunch of different brands..

actually that detects explosives

the use DOGS to find drugs

they dont look for alcohol, its a legal substance (they would have dogs going to crate after crate of Grey Goose instead of the crate full of chinese people and heroin)
