Smith I/O goggle

Does anyone know if it's possible to take the clip on the back of the strap off. Cause it doesn't fit under my helmet very well.

But the strap will still have the two, bulky plastic pieces which doesn't fit under helmets at all. Still don't know why Smith ruins a perfect goggle by putting that baby crap on there, its so unnecessary.

I got some I/O's at the end of the '11 season. Used them 3 times then returned them. Comfy and great fit. The clip is a love it or hate it deal with many.

What I hated about the I/O (and the reason for returning them) is that when you're bombing down the slopes, I felt wind getting through and it made me teary. I made sure that the seal was fine and that I was putting the lenses on securely but still no difference. I guess there are supposed to have a bit of air go through to eliminate fogging. This did not do it for me.

OFF TOPIC -

Got some airbrakes for the new season. So far the fit is great. Super comfy, fit's just like my crowbars but with a more friendly goggle-helmet interface. The lens change is just as easy, if not easier than the I/O. Looks badass in general. Besides the price difference, these are definitely superior to I/O's in my opinion. More variety in lens selection. Better face foam. And Oakley's optics is #1. Now I just have to test them and make sure that they don't have the same wind problem as the I/O.

that might work but is there a way to just remove the clip and change the way the strap gets threaded through

to me it seems like i could just pull this one plastic piece out then put it back in after but im afraid i'll snap it

after reading over the post i just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. are you talking about the clip thats at the end of each strap. or, the 2 sliders that adjust the length of the strap?

id say your best bet then is that link that i posted. you just slide each end of the clips off and then slide that strap on. it does add about 1-2" of overall length to the goggle strap. or you can cut and sew it yourself. never seen it done or have done it before but im sure it would work

seems sketchy trying to take the clips off and then sew the strap back together. there has got to be another way.

how is it sketchy taking them off? you pretty much just slide them off. while i wouldnt recommend sewing the strap it is an option that could work. heres a few pics...

heres the clip off the goggle. you can see its not one solid piece of plastic. just scrunch the strap to once side and then push it through the opening

this is the actual strap. the openings on these are angled. so when you put them on, make sure you slide it on the longer side first....the way the angle goes.

and finished product. adds a little over 2" of length

Its not ideal, but I just took the plastic clip off and fed the goggle straps through a paper clip instead. Its worked for me.
