i was thinking about getting a new pair of twins from a small company...try to support some smaller companies....any ideas of some?

Seriously though, how core do you want? Armada is, but has been around for a little while and is doing well thanks to quality product and good marketing. Ninthward is more of an up and coming company... then there are companies like Faction that fly under the radar. All solid choices, all worth taking a look at.

How about high society skis? i saw a pair on ebay and have only heard good things about them.

The first time I saw them I was really set on getting a pair, but they're very rare and quite expensive. You get what you pay for, though. You might want to take a look at www.Prajekt.com and download their catalogue. I'm not sure when that's getting started but it has a ridiculous number of choices graphic wise.

 
How about just buy the best ski. Who cares who it comes from. DO you want to buy a new small companies ski and have it fall apart because they are still figuring out the kinks? Buy the ski that is best for you and one that will last. Big companies will build skies for as cheep as possible. Thats not good either. Find the happy meduim. DOn't worry about graffix's or name brands.

duno its just like you see a ton of the same skis and i know that means there really good but im not doing anything to hardcore or sketchy or anything of the sort and im just looking for something that people havent seen time after time

 
Yeah my boy had some High Society Skis sent to him and we had to give them the old run through / they were a little soft but if you are small they would probably be perfect especially in the park / also i liked the diamond plate graphic

 
why support the little companies? because they are the ones directly linke dto our sport. putting money into them helps our sport grow, while putting money into salomon, k2, etc, may get you good skis, but it isn't going directly to our sport.

yea....defi still hasnt made skis yet and its been like 2 years.i think they are still doing their paper route for money

I say put oyur money into which ever company u think makes the best ski it doesnt mater if you put it into little companies then it will just increase there payroll and do nothing to thier ski's. personally i like the 1080's and just because people think that supporting a small company doesnt mean thats gonna change my opinion

ya im using some 1080s right now that my bfs grown out of cuz i dont have enough money to buy a new pair at the moment and they really are awesome but dunno if i get anew pair theres just somehting about supporting a smaller company that have great skis so theres more options open for skiiers

if u want an insane fatty twin from a small company. check out the Phantom Crystal Ships. www. skiphantom.com i believe. those skis are insane, and sooo much fun. pretty pricey though. definately worth checking out. and oh ya, if you overshoot a jump on those babies, and 115 underfoot, u dont feel anything. and they are super soft for butters as well

We think it's great that you're looking at small (er) brands and that you want to try something different. A few considerations, some of which have been raised here. 1. production quality. making skis is easy. making skis that are well built and last is more difficult. pay attention to this. 2. track record. a small company is great, but if they're not making product in a year and you have an issue involving a warranty, then your SOL. 3. availability. OK, we all know this is less of an issue thanks to ecommerce, so if you find a brand you like, even if the distribution is limited, you can probably do a deal over the web. however, you may want to try before you buy, which means that the manufacturer you throw your hard-earned cash at hopefully has enough of a retail presence so that you can demo some skis.

There are many excellent skis out there. Good luck in your search and have a great winter.
