SLVSH Grandvalira 2024

Well I saw that coming after Noah’s second win, and all I can say is props to the other riders for dealing with it and having sick games against each other. Ryan put up a great battle against Noah and was hoping he’d be in the finals, I recall Henri vs Elias years ago, there was a rule that they can each only do one of their gnarly knee tearing tricks in the game, maybe throw that rule on people like Noah? Will still always watch slvsh cup but I really like when the finals is like watching Tanner vs Simon in the X games pipe, not just know who was gonna win the whole thing after the second fucking game…

LJ should show up and do his blindfolded flips for every set. Hey, he's pushing the sport guys.

Ngl id laugh my ass off if Andy showed up and just did 27 wizard tricks in a row.

Noah has the right to call whatever he wants, it's SLVSH, you can do that.

That said, I don't know how you'd put a rule on it in good standing since it's a grab, just a hard grab, that said, Vinnie Gagnier had a way deeper bag of tricks and threw them all up against Colby a few years back and that was fine since he mixed it all up while throwing super hard niche grabs.

I don't know where I'm going with this, just have jumps next year too. Maybe change the trivia crack rules up so that if double trivia crack happens they go 1 and 1 afterwards until the end or something so that you can't have the game decided by the rock paper scissors

That was a dumb game. Noah has sick style and his safety slides are dope, but he was objectively spamming calls to win. I wonder how he feels about people’s reaction to his win

The only Slvsh cup winner who is too pussy to even try a switch right 2? Great game. Excited for more rock, paper, scissors next season!

Yeah it was repetitive and his calls didn’t feel in spirit of the game, but the outrage is over the top, like outrage always is these days…

Brainstorm a rule change to prevent repetitive calls next year, move on.

This didn’t feel as bad to me as Vinnie - Quinn 2017, where he went straight to more obscure calls that he knew nobody did (which Vinnie made up for in 2019).

I feel like Noah actually believes a landing grab on feature shouldn’t be an obscure trick and he wants to see them more, which is partially why he spammed them. Fr I’d rather see everyone add that to their bag than venoms and pole mutes.

yeah fuck me for using a different word for a ski trick so skiing can be more welcoming and inclusive for people. Trick names are made up and change/ have alternates. Free country but all im saying is that if someone asks you to stop using a word that makes them uncomfortable then youre an asshole. its not a complex thing, youre just showing your cards that you care about people.

anyway i think this 3rd place consolation game is gonna be a heater if it happens. should be sick!

Like, I get where you're coming from, and fuck being transphobic and all, but it's a completely different word even if it's the same word... if that makes sense. It's a shortened form of transition, is referring to a slope not a transgender person, etc. It's like the word chink when referring to armor or a dent in metal. It's pretty clear that someone means transition when using the word tranny in the context of skiing/skating/snowboarding/etc., and it's a long established piece of vernacular that had literally nothing to do with Trans people. Honestly, if we're going to police trick names, mute grab is way worse because it's origin is insensitivity and exclusion.

Auclair grab is cooler I have been trying to say that because I love tricks paying homage to ppl. Been calling cork 7 blunt "Heffys" that's one I never forget but idk if that one will catch on, might just be a me thing cuz I loved hoodcrew so much

Thought Kadi did an excellent job as ref, would love to see more from him. Woodsy definitely missed a bad call early on but he's also great ref sometimes stuff can't turn out perfect. More full time refs or proven ones would be good change. double trivia crack in finals wtf is going on now. Anyone count the number thought the entire bracket? 5? 6? 7? more? that's insane.

Aw, look at the stupid child defending an imaginary point system. LOL, I'm going to downvote every one of your posts from now on.

Coming on here to vouch my support for Noah's skiing and attitude in this tourney.

Many people are saying he spammed the same trick over and over, but it's worth putting out he did safety slides on and off, left and right hand, uphill and downhill ski, and disaster spins both ways. It's a technical mastery of park skiing that no one else really has.

Most of the other competitors are in the Xgames, Olympics, have red bull helmets, etc. and are masters at traditional tech tricks as they need to win competitions. They are doing 6s, double swaps, 3 swaps, etc, because score judged competitions inevitably favor quantifiable complexity over steeze.

But this is slvsh cup, where it's not competitor vs judge panel, but skier vs. skier. And when Noah got invited to this tourney he probably thought, I'll never win Xgames or go to the Olympics, but maybe I can show the world that spinning to win ain't everything, and here's the one competitive arena that rewards finding your opponents weakness. And after a game and a half, I bet he realized he could knock down every single one of these spin to win pencil dorks with a line of tricks that he's been practicing for years, not because they are comp winning sets, but because skiing is fun and looks cool.

Taking the competition out of perspective, if you watched all of Seb's sets and all of Noah's, who looked better? Which skier represents the pleasure and creativity of cruising down a mountain on skis, and who looks like they're in the gym training for an athletic career?

Noah just reminded everyone that there's more to park skiing than spinning, an idea which appears to be lost among the other competitors, and especially the viewers of these games.

I'm not full on hating Noah, but his games were boring as fuck to watch.

Outside of Seb, all of the other skiers who played against Noah looked a lot better.

Representing "pleasure" is just stupid. What if the pleasure for Seb or the others comes from spinning? They represent pleasure just as much as Noah. Nobody starts and keeps skiing or joins a SLVSH cup to become succesfull and famous.

All i need in my life is more games involving Mikkel and Matej.

I love Noah's skiing but this take is nonsense. You don't need to shit on all the other competitors to defend Noah. Watch the consolation round; there's plenty of creative, low spin trick sets.

He did what he needed to do to win when he was at a technical disadvantage. It's also literally the opposite of a technical mastery of park; Noah did not showcase the skiing he's capable of because he stuck to the same niche trick over and over. I don't at all fault him for this; he did what he had to under the ruleset to win.

The two dudes with red bull helmets are more stylish and creative than Noah tbh, you can't be for real rn hahaha, also he didn't play any x games vets, just ameture rail spin lords. I hate that you feel the need to pretend that Noah is the only one there who loves skiing and has fun skiing when it's very obvious everyone there is more obsessed with the sport than every single one of us

Let me follow up by saying that I agree with you all that the other skiers do have style, she obviously love the sport. I may have gone to far with some statements above. I do, however, think Noah showcased that the direction skiing has gone has done so while leaving huge gaps. And that it's just as valid to focus on filling in the gaps as it is to push the limits.

Is it just me or is it a little hypocritical when people be complaining about xgames knuckle huck saying it's a spin to win, no style is accounted for,

"Was hoping that knuckle huck would be the event where funky stuff would be the focus but here we are"

"Spin to win over creativity super lame."

Literal quotes from the thread from 2024. Dew tour streetstyle 2024 had a similar vibe and podium.

Noah wins slvsh, no doubt not the most technical rider but style is super refreshing and glad there is a platform to showcase it and hope people can respect it.

Couldn’t agree more man, well said. Like Noah got the opportunity and took it. He laced up a bunch of sick tricks too!
