Slvsh cup 2023

I'll defend the reffing here.

Noah was spamming safety slides, a trick he's extremely comfortable with and one he knows Hunter doesn't do well. If Noah said you have to grab it the whole length of the rail then, given that he's setting and it's an otherwise fairly simple rail slide, he absolutely needs to do it flawlessly. It was not flawless, he did let go a couple feet before the end of the rail. I would say that's a fair call by the ref, even if it's a call many would let slide.

Keep in mind Noah got some pretty damn loose calls his way after that (like that Japan, there's no way that was more than a tickle), so he was given plenty of chances to stay in the game.

Also, even if he did say that was a good call, Hunter would have 3 letters and gotten the set then could have won his 5 in a row anyways. Noah is a sick skier, but Hunter definitely has a far larger repertoire of tricks (especially jump tricks). And if Noah kept spamming safety slides, I'd say that would have been fair game for Hunter to spam unatty jump tricks and the game would have been far shorter.

That call was in no way a deciding factor and is defensible.

What I’m saying, and Noah’s backswap pretz 270 should have been a letter too. The judging helped Noah a lot, it was definitely some weird judging but I mean come on noah was protected from at least 3 letters because they wanted the match to go on longer

I agree. This matchup seemed the most juxtaposed so far, a battle of style and tech. I love watching both of their skiing, but if they're trying to win then they would pick the tricks that the other can't do. So spamming safety slide is one way to do it for Noah, and jump tricks is the solution for Hunter. The competitors in the other games seemed to keep trick calls within each other's abilities, which I think makes for a longer and more entertaining game and helps both skiers learn new tricks and maintaining positive energy. But if the purpose is to win, then study the opponent's weakness and drop hammers from the first call.

Pretty sure Hugo hit his head and pulled out of the tournament before reffing this so maybe not in the best “headspace” lol.

Jokes aside the reffing seemed a little weird but it’s hard when both guys are purposefully hitting each others weaknesses.

Would have loved to see Noah advance because he’s more fun to watch but Hunter can probably keep up with the rest of the field better.
 
the boys were out for blood on this one!

obviously everyones already commented about the call on the safety slide. yeah it was weak, but probably wouldn't have changed the eventual outcome of the game bc hunter has a bigger trick bag. it was like Hugo knew he had screwed up with the call so he kept being pretty loose on some of Noahs tricks, like the japan, to keep him in the game bc of the bad call he made earlier

either way, a fun game with 2 very different skiers and fun to see Noah still out there with some of the most stylish skiing around. the wallie to tranny was sick
 
Maybe im wrong but if noah were to hold that safety slide the whole rail i bet he would just stomp on his hand. If it were a flat tube you could be more critical of holding it the whole way, but him "missing" the grab on the last 6 inches of dfd should not have been counted against him. Ur coming off of a down in that instance no way someone could actually hold it the whole way

Just to point out, in this scenario, trivia crack rules would have also been applied to Hunter. So he would have made 3 letters in a row, then trivia crack rule, Noah would have had the set again.

Hunter has sick style and is dope as hell u fucking tweakshow. Just because you’re a comp skier doesnt automatically make you boring. And besides, the problem with any slvsh game is that ppl can easily exploit their skills if they want to win. Anyone who thinks Noah had a chance in this comp is trippin. If Noah only set safety slides the whole comp, and Max only did corks onto boxes and shit, and Kuura only did swaps, it would be boring af and Noah would get shit on. Props to Hunter for doing more chill tricks, made the game way more entertaining.
 
I think most of the tricks that Noah got letters on were within his wheelhouse, just not super consistent, think Hunter played pretty fair.

I think watching Hunter go against the other guys will be more fun to watch huck stupid shit.
 
one of the best slvsh games i have ever witnessed, every line BANGED, the vibes were HUGE, and OFFROADIN. 10/10 game. dani b was such a g too.

just watched that new game, far and away my favorite game so far. Great style, great vibes, just an amazing time. I don't even ski park really and I love watching this.
 
In the Noah v Hunter game, did Noah say he had never done a cork 9?? Or specifically a cork 9 with that grab. Cuz never having done a cork 9 is crazy lol.

Ian's loose judgment kept the game from ending too early, and we got some of the best defense in Slvsh history from Mikkel. The sw cork 6 back 2 was unexpected. (It was smart of him to do his second cork 1 try in Casabon mode instead of A-Hall mode)

this thread and Slvsh itself have gotta be some of the sickest stoke/content in our little world. idc about spoilers so i often read these before watching and they get me so hyped for the episodes

Been some super good battles and its been great watching this season with my 4yr old. He gets excited after supper as it is time to watch slvsh cup 2023!

Damn Kuura tried sets he clearly wasn't comfortable with and got smoked. I kinda knew what was gonna happen as soon as I saw the runtime of the video lol

I try so hard not to look at the runtime but I always catch a glimpse. Pretty heater lineups for the remaining games, the consistency of Max and Ferdi is impressive, I’m hoping Tormod does well.

I also really want to see more games with Nico
