SLR and Editing ?'s

so i'm starting out my next big purchase with a digital camera, and i need some guidence/advice. i cant really decide between canon and nikon. theres the canon rebel xti, canon eos 20d, and then theres the nikon 40/70/80D. any advice from experience, or any other cameras that im just over looking? thanks

also i was wondering about video editing software...

how is all of that adobe stuff in comparison to somthing like final cut pro?

and yes i know this is also in the media and arts section

My mom has the nikon D80

its really nice

and as for editing if you have a PC get preimer and if you have an appple get final cut pro or express

search canon and you'll find a thread I made not too long ago when I was deciding on an slr. I just bought and XTI and I've been extremely happy with it thus far, I just need to get a better lens. there's also a thread of mine in the photo cult if you're a part of it.

Personally, I like the Nikon cams better. I feel that they are built much better and shoot better images than canon in general. They are also cheaper. The problems with Nikon is the sensors... they get very noisy and grainy after you raise your ISO above 400, which isn't a problem for most people. Plus, let's face it... the nikons just look cooler.

I don't think he's going to always shoot with the sun in the background, who the fuck cares.

I bought a sony alpha and its way beyond what I thaught. First SLR and image stabilization in-camera = saving big big big bucks on lenses, anyway, go to http://www.dpreview.com/ for reviews and such, very very detailed site.

fuck..

i cant remeber what to do, at any rate look through my shit, most of the recent stuff is shot on my 30D with a sigma dc ex 2.8 18- 50

I am pretty much in the same boat as you. or I was like a few months ago. I got a d40, and I am in love with it. I know it isn't amazing but it is good enough until I need to upgrade, you have to start somewhere. and for software. I just bought this program that was like 60 bucks. and it is like 100 times better then wmm, but pretty soon I am going to build a computer for just editing...so yeah, go to best buy or something for some editing software unless you have the money to get like final cut or vegas.

img opens the tag for images, then the /img closes it. this is true for all tags, just remember it like that. also use lowercase, I'm not sure if capital letters work.

Out of those I would get the Nikon D70. Im not a fan of the new Nikon's. My friend has the D40, and I prefer my D50 over it any day. Nikon sensors do make the picture really grainy when the iso is over 400, but if your using a lens with the right aperture on it then you won't need to put the iso over 400.

For editing I use the Photoshop RAW editor tool. It works fine for me.

I dont think theres going to be D70's anymore, last year they were all discontinued, everywhere... USA and Canada.

Nikon and Canon is just personal preference. There are plenty of great photographers that use each system. Starting out with something like a Canon 20D might be a good idea, it has full Manual functionality and is a good camera in general, but isn't the newest so you might get a little break on the price.

Oddly enough you double-posted in media and arts. The cameras your looking at are between 500 and 1200. Do you have a budget? I have used the D40, D40x, D80, Rebel, XT, XTi, 20D, 30D, 40D, 1D MKIII, Pentax, Olympus, and Sony DSLR's. It really depends what your intentions/budget are.

well at the time probably no more than 1500. im about to buy an fx1 so im not going to be buying for a little while. im just starting out on my research. but probably when i do buy hopefully no more than 1500. i have a little bit of prior experience, cause my friends have a couple of digital slr's. and i also have gone through a photography course so i sorta know what im talking about. im just looking for the right camera, and i know that nikon and canon both make excellent cameras. i sorta wanna know the pros and cons of both

Figure out if you want to do serious video or serious stills, then spend your money on that gear and buy average stuff for the other one. Having time, effort and cash to put into both isn't really possible.

The D50 and the D70 are essentially the same camera, but there are things about the d50 that are upgrade, it has a few less features but it is a better cam in my opinion, and i have used both extensively. if you are looking at something in that  range either get a d50 or look at teh d80
