Slow Motion with 60i

Hey guys,

I have a canon hf10 and have been experimenting with different methods of slow motion for a while now. My best results have came from shooting in 60i and de-interlacing and setting to 50% speed on JES De-Interlacer.

This method works well, but I was wondering if there was a better way to do this, and achieve better results, maybe using After Effects or Final Cut Express.

What is the best way to achieve slow motion with my camcorder (shoots in 30p, 24p and 60i) and software combo?

Thanks,

Reed

i use twixtor. its fucking crazy. on most shots i can go to down to 25% before i start noticing things glitching out. i shoot 60i aswell

If you use FCP you can use De-Interlace. Slow the clip down then copy it and paste it above the one you copied. Then De Interlace both and go into the options and set the bottom to the bottom and the top to the top.

You want to slow the clip down to say 40% Copy it then paste it directly above it in the timeline. De Interlace and then set them top and bottom.

^Alright I see what your saying

I might wanna try twixtor again (had bad results last time)

anyone have any experience with the plugin?

Your best bet will definitely be twixtor if you can get your hands on it, I use it a ton when I have to do any speed changes in post. Of course the best would be shoot higher framerates, but you dont always have that option...

I used to shoot with and FX1 that shot 60i. Twixtor's interpolation is definitely the best way to double your frames, the most I ever took my footy was down to 50% but im sure you could slow it down to even more. The workflow is a bit strange in final cut and ae, but it is probably your best bet for quality slow mo. It only works well with interlaced footy tho, so if you shoot in progressive( 24p/30p/60p ) the footage comes out with large artifacts and looks horrendous.
