Slopestyle X-games hatveit's run vs candide last year

i think candide would have won this year. he always has tricks hidden up his sleeve that he whips out in competitions.

yeah i agree because last year the rails added more style and technicality; last years course just mixed it up as apposed to this year where there was just 2 boxes and 4 jumps in a row.....

but looking at the 2 runs its hard to tell, it all depends what you would jude on (style or technical difficulty)

but i like candide's run from last year not to take anything away from andreas

Candides slope run last year was one of the sickest things I've ever seen on skis. I was literally jumping up and down when I saw him stomp his last trick. So dope. I love Candide.

Candide is smoother for sure, ANdreas more technical like everyone said. Candide's landings are a lot nicer too. Andreas's landings are pretty wishy-washy sometimes and he is a bit sketchy with the landing on that first box with his 450 on, just kinda slides off to one side, whereas Candide's rail/box landings are super smooth.

Andrea's run was ridiculous, what could he have even done to make it better? I thought it was pretty smooth personally

I agree Andreas run was unreal, I'm just saying that overall, I was way more stoked when I saw Candides run. I guess I just really wanted him to prove to the rest of the world that he is one of the greatest skiers of all time. He deserved that shit. Such a pioneer of our sport.

andreas is a beast, so as for his landings, of course they are gonna be a little wishy-washy, he weighs like 200 pounds. those rossi's like folded on every landing.

he must break so many skis in a season.

natural vs unnatural becoming just like backside and frontside in snowboarding.. its becoming not as big of a deal.. candide for sure.

Candide threw down on the rails alot smoother than Hatveit did (he almost misses the first box.. I think...)

And his transitions etc. are alot smoother....

But personally I think Hatveit did better on the jumps, it could just be the speed issues from last year, but it looked like he was going bigger

Hatveits run is soooooooo much more technical! Def. better! candide only did one unatti sw 7... Hatveit did unatty 9 nose and sw unatti 10 ! fucking sick!

Candide was more stylish and incredible on the rails. Hatveit did bigger tricks with more spins and harder grabs but the jumps are bigger this year so it's unfair to judge.

candide's run was soo sick. he STOMPED every landing, he landed so clean on everything, and his switch 10 at the bottom was so smooth i thought it was a 7 the first time i watched it.

i felt the exact same way. I mean you look back from the start and how much he has done, it was just really good to see that even after all those years he was still the best

i loved both of the runs

i liked the setup of last years just because of the rail setup in the middle to mix it up

even though hatviets jumps were more technical candide went 810 on to the box and slid the whole thing, hatviet went 450 on and fell off

candides run had more flow i would say which i think is a main factor in the overall impression and i liked how he hit the gap jump regular to switch it up and not switch on evry jump

word, candide has been responsible for so many landmark moments in the development of freeskiing. the man is a true pioneer. he, jon and tanner are by far the top 3 freestyle skiers ever. nobody else even comes close.

on a slightly different note, speaking to his mum at x after he was booed (which was disgusting), tanner, understandly bummed, said "it's so disappointing after everything i've done for freeskiing to get booed"...

NOW, don't get me wrong, tanner is the best pipe skier ever and arguably the best comp skier period, but has he really done that much for our sport, other than be insanely good at it? compare him to jon or candide whose work FOR our sport is easy to see, and it's hard to think what tanner has actually DONE to compare. sure he's at the forefront of pipe riding, but i can't really think of too many moments where tanner actually did something pioneering of something people would have perviously thought impossible...

hate if you want, but anyways, discuss...

1. he is helping in progressing half pipe skiing as he said. mixing up his run with right left switch forward etc.

2. he has generally been a great role model for those out there taking up freeskiing.

3. he was the co-founder of ARMADA for fucks sake

4. switch 9 chad's gap? previously thought impossible? yup.

5. helping in pushing freeskiing into the BC

6. I remember in some warren miller film he was on the cutting edge of the olympic freeskiers pushing for inverted stuff.

7. Most golds (tied with shaun white) in winter x-games.

Dude, come on! He has done a lot more stuff for this sport than I mentioned above. OF COURSE he has been a pioneer of our sport!

for sure i felt the same way. i always have wanted to see him win at x and i was so pumped when he did. and as for the two runs i think candide was better overall. he is way smoother on and off the boxes and how could you not just love the style?

the work he has done for the sport has changed drastically in the last couple of years. As he is no longer on the freestyle circuit, his work in terms of progression (in that aspect) has fallen away.

However with his movies he pushing new aspects of skiing as using his name as a marketing tool in his movies (not a bad idea at all). The guy is one of the sports greats, even the best freestyle skier the world has ever seen, he has done so much good for the sport over the years.

If i had done all that he has done and then got booed after winning the x games, i would be seriously pissed off, it wouldnt surprise me if he didnt compete next year becasue of it.

All the booing has done is give skiing a bad name and made one of our pioneers pissed off, the whole thing is a complete farce

hatvite still wouldve won this year i think, but this years slope set up sucked...there was pretty much just 1 rail, and "the cannon" but that shouldnt count as a rail...

i really liked andreas' second run, soooo much style

would he have beaten candide with his run last year? dunno not for me to decide, loved them both

yea i agree with what most people said in here. andreas is tech, candide is smoother. but serously you cant really compare those two runs to each other because its not eh same course

he broke his back last year at the candide invitational so he is still sort of recovering from that and he has decided to retire from comps now create even more epic segments with enjoy studios.

I agree that Candide's run was better.

That said, I don't think comparing comp runs between different comps has much meaning. Comps aren't about what tricks you have the ability to do, it's all about what you throw down that day, on that course, against the other people competing. The circumstances and the course are pretty different from year to year and comp to comp.

one thing you can be sure of is that candide would find a way to bio or cork onto that up flat down and he would do something nuts off that box to air thing and well his jump game is on point and almost no one can touch it unless you are just busting double flips.

both runs were sick. candide killed everything, the jibs were sick. this year was more of a jump course tho.

id take candide.

also, am i the only one to notice that everyone had a helmet this year im pretty sure, did they make them mandatory, or is it rider choice? cause candide wasnt wearing one last year. not that it matters but im kinda curious.

Andreas' run had 2 switch 10s spun both directions and a switch 12 grabbed. Candide had a good run, but Andreas had better style and harder tricks on the jumps. You can't compare the rails because the courses were set up so differently.
