Slopestyle at the Olympdicks: who do you want to see podium?

First off, I am not a fan of freeskiing going to the Olympics (and the comp scene in general). Like some of you said in other threads, I feel like it really does take the word "free" out of freeskiing, being judged on specific criterias is not being free, but whatever.

I can't give a fuck about halfpipe going to the olympics, because I feel that this "discipline" of freeskiing was made for comp skiing and that lots of skiers doing it have only been in it hoping to win comps and hoping to go at the olympics one day (this does not apply to all skiers; Dorey was filming sick videoparts with Level 1 for a long time, same goes with Duncan Adams and a few other).

That said, I am sad that slopestyle has become another judged comp and that lots of comp donkeys are doing it only for the olympics and the $$$. #Goepper #BobbyBrown.

To be a respected comp skier in my books, you need to have at least one solid film segment under your belt, proving that you are in for the love of the sport and not only for the cash and fame. #peronalopinion

Here is who I would love to see on the podium: skiers that are dedicated to the sport and that actually brought something to the game:

1- Andreas Hatveit (dude has an ill style, has solid film segments, has been freeskiing forever, is always stoked when he sees a sick run that could even make him lose a podium, is old and has experience).

2- Henrik Harlaut (skiinh style, dub nose, fucked up style, hair, clothes that represent that freeskiing is about not giving a fuck, great kid overall).

3- Gus Kenworthy (is a comp skier, but has had great ski segments/edits, pushed the sport, has style and is always stoked on skiing)

What are your thought?

You have the right to be against everything I just said, but I thought it would be good to share my 2 cents.

also I doubt any film skiers love the sport any more than geopper and bobby brown. Personally I think your opinion makes you look like an idiot.
 
I don't know why you put goepper and bobby in one category and gus in another. There all comp skiers, it's my personal opinion but to me what's important is having cool looking tricks, whether you put out some segments or not. And again my opinion but gus down not have more style than bobby, and bobby has also done a few segments these last few years.

I don't understand why you didn't put ABM, he seems to represent everything you are looking for and he's from the same damn province you're from.
 
Don't understand why people have to hate on Goepper and Brown all the time, just cause you don't enjoy their particular style doesn't mean they aren't extremely talented at a sport we all love. Both Goepper and Brown have a drastically different style when you compare them to skiers like Henrik but they still have a unique way of skiing which is what style is all about. With that being said if you don't like the comp scene or a particular skiers style, ignore it. Simple as that.
 
Ok, I thing you are right. I am probably an idiot because my opinion is different than yours. Everybody knows that you hold the absolute truth.
 
I think you've got Bobby all wrong and you'd better get used to G man. The guy is still a kid and is sure to improve his style over time. They both produce edits that prove they have tons of fun doing what they do. I may not want Goepper to win, but I'm over hating him so much because I like to live in the positive. Grow up!
 
This is what I will do. But I never said that Goepper and Brown aren't talented, they are goddamn good and very technical skiers, I just think that they're in it for the money and that they do not care about the origins of freeskiing. But they are awesome skiers, I can't deny that for sure!
 
yeah i realized you never insulted their talent after i left my reply, suppose i'm just used to seeing everyone hate on them every time i see their name in a thread. I can see people's point about the Olympics hurting the sport, but the way i look at it competitions are inevitable with a growing sport like ours, so things like the Olympics are inevitable. I'm pretty stoked to watch the olympics themselves, its just the backlash of popularity that i'm worried will change the sport in a negative way.
 
I don't know why you group anybody, EVERYONE is different. they may look kinda similar but no, just because they do comps and dubs with mute doesnt make them the same thing.

Bobby and Goepper do care about the origins of freeskiing, both producing quality edits for you're viewing enjoyment: Bobby-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDdVIqgPB58 even did butter dubs and grabbed blunt and wore bigger clothing, exactly what you guys like... Goepper-
Also an edit with the first(that i saw) switch tail butter.

These guys care so much about the sport, and all they're doing is sponsor initiatives in addition to contests and filming to make it possible to make a living off of this sport, like every other sport(football, tennis, etc) just trying to bring it to a level where that is possible. I don't understand why the majority of NS sees this as a bad thing
 
The fuq are you talking about, maybe you should go talk to either of them and find out how passionate they are about the sport and love free skiing more than anything. Both are outstanding people and the fact that you don't like how they ski doesn't mean that they are "in it for the money", I'm pretty confident that a lot of people on here would love to be in their position and get paid to train and ski for a living.

If you REALLY dont care about the olympics/think they are wrong etc. just dont talk about them. Easy, simple. Saying that they suck and are going to do bad things for the sport and how everyone going to them is gay, please tell me how this affects you directly?

Even guys like Ahmet with their constant "OLYMPIX SUCKS, GEOPPER IS GAI". Yeah i dont like the olympics but just fucking ignore it and keep on doing the shit that you have been doing before pipe and slope was even introduced. Makes you just seem butthurt that you cant go for whatever reason that is.

1) Woodsy, because he's from England, which is in Great Britain.2) Henrik because I want to see his reaction/interviews.

3) Some totally unknown random dude you've never heard of just to see the reaction on these forums.

4) Goepper, who when on the podium reaches up and removes a Mission: Impossible style latex mask to reveal he was Wallisch all along and NS explodes as a result.

5) Pat Sharples.

im still bitter over the usa team so: henrik, abm, hetviet. but im sure usa will pretty much dominate.

I'm not even sure if Jesper is competing but he's one of the funnest guys to watch ski, so in spite of the above being utterly unrealistic it's my ideal situation.
 
3 of these guys: abm, andreas hatveit, anti ollila, oystein braaten and tom wallisch (ye he'll get to sochi cause bobbys knee wont heal in 2 weeks)
 
In it for the money? Those dudes probably started skiing as soon as they could walk. They are super fucking good at it, why not get paid a little to ski. Lord knows they arent swimming in pools of gold doubloons like scrooge mcduck.

But to add to it, it'd be awesome to see Hatveit take it home. Very few people who appear to be as stoked as he is on the sport, plus he's been around forever and is in general a solid representation of being awesome.
 
I hope that the jumps are either in shitty condition or are too small for the riders to throw triples because than it really becomes anybody's game and puts way more emphasis on slaying the rails which (just my opinion) is the funner part of watching comp runs
 
This is what I'd like to see but it probably won't happen:

1) Andreas - nicest/happiest dude in the world and totally deserves it

2) Goepper - the kid from Indiana who will probably win anyways

3) Henshaw (or maybe Woodsy) - because they almost always seem to get screwed every year at a big comp
 
The origin of freeskiing is simply skiing because you love skiing. Obviously they do. And for being in it for the money, is that a joke? Only a hand full of the top pros are really making solid money.
 
If harlaut wins itd be so sick. Just because he doesnt give a fuck and thats what freeskiing is
 
Well im canadian so I guess itd be sick if abm got a medal , id like to see henrik win it , I also wonder if there is going to be some crazy ass chinese guy that nobody knows but who will spin like a top , probably not because its the first olympics but when its going to be a bit older I bet its going to happen
 
1) Dollo - because it'd be hilarious to see how he acts on podium, in interviews, and he's just an awesome dude overall

2) ABM - because I love his style, and it'd be cool to see someone generally unknown to even some skiers podium

3) Gus - even though some might consider him a park robot. He's got awesome style, he seems like a cool guy, and he's representing the USA
