Slope and Pipe in 2015 Vancouver Deaflympics

hmm most of you here dont bother to support a cause like this? i want to know whats on your mind about something like this. its kinda weird to see over a thousand views and over 50 comments.........
throw down some opinions?

did it. looks like all the negative comments stopped after you explained why skiing is harder for deaf people.

its not exactly harder... maybe for most it is, but for me not really im pretty decent at skiing but park its just a tad difficult for me. ok people i need more likes its at 134 now.

totally off-topic, but is it true that the deaf community like shuns the people who turned deaf later on in life. Like the elite deaf people are the people who have been deaf since birth?

I just heard that somewhere

im not trying to be massively insensitive, but does being deaf hinder you that much in skiing? is there something to do with balance that is different?

Lookin good today! more traffic, more likes, more happier people. Keep them coming.

This question has been asked before, ok you know the paralympics are for people who are physically disabled? Well deafness is a physical disability, however we can't really compete in the paralympics all because we do have all of our limbs. Deafies competing in the paralympics would just give us a huge advantage, so that's why we have our own olympic event, the deaflympics. Being deaf does hinder you in ways such as balancing problems, some or most don't really have that problem. It just doesn't matter if the requirement is balancing problems, the requirement to get into the deaflympic games is just one answer, deafness or hearing loss. Hope that answers your question.

Many thanks!

Keep the clicks coming!

Yeah, the view to like ratio is insane! Maybe some people just felt awkward or they're unknown about deaf people and their ways. The world is so big out there and same time it's small.

droppin in today for the first day of the week! The Cause page has over 205 likes! thanks guys! I need more clicks coming.

KUDOS

that would be a good idea, this coming winter, there will be videos.

I'm stoppin in today to encourage more people to just click 2 things, the link shown in the first post and click like.

thank you all!

over 210 likes so far! goal is to have 1000 likes!

i dont even understand why you need your own olympics, isnt that what the special olympics are for?if more and more people have their own olympics, they become diluted and worthless, obviously this isnt your intent, but its something you cant help.

@maxwell:i know it's not your intent to sound ignorant about something you obviously know nothing about, it's just something you can't help...
deaf people are in athletic-limbo when it comes to the olympics and athletic competition in general: their disorder is not cognitive, so that would bar them from being eligible for the special olympics; and though their disorder IS physical (read earlier post on balance disorders), most have limbs/muscles that are fully functioning, meaning that they are also excluded from the paralympics. so yes, this lack of inclusion for a relatively large athletic community does necessitate another olympic venue for competition. i would actually argue the same for blind people, but that's another story for another day.
volunteer at any one of the olympic venues for the disabled and then come back and tell me how diluted you think it is. they are all competitive athletes who are equally deserving of the same recognition as anyone else.

@niSE7ENliked the FB page (#216). if the world had more people like you i think a lot more would get accomplished for everyone. keep chasing that dream man
+vibes

stoppin in today, with the lost of Steve Jobs. That man was very inspiring to us all, kept chasing his dream and finally his dream started chasing him. clickity click the like button on facebook.

PROPS to Jobs.

yeah, we could join the regular olympics, most of the time we would just be shunned out. there could be a person or 2 in the regular olympics, while there are tens to hundred THOUSANDS of deaf people all over the world WANTING to compete. why not we all deafies compete against each other while we have the similar disability or "culture". remember this deaflympic venue already exist and it has been around for a lonnnggg time. there's no way on earth for someone to shut down the deaflympics and tell us all, "go compete in the real games."

droppin in, its lookin good. keep it up! still need more likes! almost a fourth through out of a thousand likes!

You completely missed the point of the olympics becoming diluted, go ahead, make the deaf world championships, have fun with internal competition and thinking that you are as good at your sports as the regular olympic champions, and you cant argue that you are, otherwise you would be winning the regular championships. just dont call it the olympics. the people in the olympics all have their own challenges to face in their lives as well, and they power through them, and it would suck to see someone else get an olympic gold in the same event who is half as fast or strong or whatever you have trained for years to be. the olympics isn't about including everyone and having a good time, its called a competition for a reason. someone not naturally good at running could train for their whole lives, and they would never win the olympics, because its not just about the hard work you put in and how much you think you "deserve" it, its also about just being better than everyone else.

^i'm not going to let this dick here bring down the whole mood and my determination to make this events happen. this dick right here obviously is just a thick headed bastard who has no utter respect for others. oh.... hey the paralympics athletes shouldn't be competing either. they can't act like they're better than olympic athletes, they don't work as hard as the olympic level athletes. they should not be proud of their strength, determination, and heart. yeah why don't we just BASH and SHUN out the paralympic athletes as well as deaf athletes in the deaflympics. you know buddy.... my best friend, my girlfriend is actually a cross country runner, deaf herself, she competes mainstreamed. she is at the level of an olympian, worked hard in high school, going to state championships and winning 2nd place back to back photo finish in the state of michigan. she competes in the summer deaflympic games. now this dick here believes thats the disadvantaged and disabled should never have as much respect as people who worked hard to their pro level in a "perfect" world. what a low blow......

thought that action sports community is a tight knit community that feels like a brotherhood with people backing you up.

you don't belong here dickwad.

your statements are not going to stop this.

Aha noone rip on Maxwell to hard. I'm pretty sure he's color blind. Anyways I'm liked it up. The thing I don't get about that fluid is that its also the same fluid that causes vertigo and a false sense of motion. Could you hear before. I'm curious because you never know it could be a really good thing once you work around it?

NEWSCHOOLERS! I'M BACKKKKKK!!!!!!!

So after a long quiet disappointment that the recent 2011 Deaflympics was cancelled, I AM BACK HARDER THAN EVER. My company DflyCo. went to the X-Games recently and stayed at a deaf camp called Aspen Camp for the deaf and hard of hearing. IT WAS A BLAST, everyone all 43 deaf people enjoyed their stay. It was a limited space only, hearts were broken that people missed out an opportunity. Theres always next year for those people who got angry that they could not get the spot. I, myself brought back alive the proposal for the slopestyle and halfpipe snowboarding and skiing in the Deaflympics. I had a presentation at the camp, eyes were gauged out, hearts were blown wide open, cheers were thrown. SO, I merged my proposal into my business to have a stronger case.

I ONLY HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU ALL!

How many of you know deaf male and female skiers? (any form of hearing loss)

people who answered and like this page will get MASSIVE karma.
