Slight rant

So, to preface I got a one night job at a ski shop to help my dad w0ho works there (the Sportsman Chalet for Bellingham, WA NSers) to catch up on mounting bindings and doing tune jobs. I am not certified so I didn't do any hole drilling for bindings though I did all the waxing and tune jobs last night. Got paid $70 for 7 hours work. Was happy with that.

HOWEVER, slight rant at certain things in the ski world. I am not going to put this in Ski Gabber or Gear Talk as it really doesn't pertain to either and this seems like the best place for it:

-All binding companies in general. FUCKING CATCH UP! Skis are getting wider it seems like every fucking year. We went to put a pair of bindings on some Surface skis... the fucking jig to drill the holes couldn't fit so we had to jury rig something to make it fit. It's aggravating. Take this shit into account assholes. Same goes for the width of your brakes. A binding like a Duke or a Jester or a Griffon as well as the upper level Look and Dynastar and Rossi bindings should have the super wide brakes as a default IMO.

-To Rossi, Look, and Dynastar bindings. FUCK YOUR JIG. The asshole thing doesn't auto center itself and when it is 1:30 in the morning I really can't be arsed to monkey with it.

-To Line skis. I hate you, I really do. Great company and all that but goddamn is it annoying having a ski with a sheet of metal in it. Takes forever to drill through.

Yes, yes I do.

Still, fuck you Look/Dynastar/Rossi bindings and Line skis. And if you want those bindings on those skis? Well, I may just hide them someplace so I don't have to deal with it.

Also, weird story... There was a guy that bought some Hellbents and got Marker Duke's put on them... he is 33 and said he was skier type 1....... what, the, fucking, fuck?!

Aren't the Line Motherships the only Line ski with metal in the core of the ski? And haha you would hate my friend, he has Nordicas with a metal sheet in them with rossi bindings.

My dad works there two days a week and the grinding machine got fucking broken and they got backed up for like 2 weeks. We cranked out probably 17 mounts and 25 tune jobs in 7 hours between the two of us. The only way my dad could get my help was to come in late and work overnight cause his boss would be unwilling to do any under the table payment during working hours but if my dad stays late he can get overtime/double pay for what he does.

"totally coming up there and having a pair of looks mounted on some lines"

I'm going to kill you.

"Aren't the Line Motherships the only Line ski with metal in the core of the ski? And haha you would hate my friend, he has Nordicas with a metal sheet in them with rossi bindings."

We had one that had a "drawn by Eric Pollard" or whatever on it (I don't know much about Line's line so to speak) and there was another one with the Japanese flag (the old one) on the base.

I will accept that as long as it is in a creative way, most likely involve multiple knit hats and several mounting jigs.

They weren't nearly as hard to drill through as the Line's were.

Also, we did a pair of Surface skis and it felt like you could drill through them with a plastic bit they were so soft.

while i can sympathize a little bit, don't you have a drill press in your shop? And if the jig doesn't fit you can make a jig out of a sheet of paper in about three minutes and tape it to any ski.

and whatever you do, don't mount any ace of spades, two layers of titanium, I hand mounted them at home and had to get a ti plated bit just to drill them.

No drill press sadly. The damn base grinder for when people put holes in the base that we use... is fucking broken. The damn stand/vise we have can't even hold a Kung Fujas barely and don't even THINK about trying to put a pair of Hellbents into them.
