Sliding Rails

I just got my first pair of twin tips a month ago. (a pair of volkl expressions) I can pull 360's, ride switch fairly well, slide boxes but I pretty much learned all this the fews times i've been out skiing this season. I have never hit a rail before and I really want to try it soon. I have kind of an idea but i'd like some tips to prevent the breakage of my face. Please reply positively.(no bashing of my meager skills) Thanks a lot.

Um your going to fall. My first couple of times hitting the rails I bailed pretty hard, but that happens. All I can say is dont lean too far back and dont lean too far forward heh. Just find a small flat rail and practice hitting it slow, and you will get the hang of it.

I promise you will bail though and it will suck, but that goes hand in hand with hitting rails. Even the pros still bail on rails, so you have to deal with some pain, but its worth it.

Its just like anything else just lotsa trial and error, or at least thats how it was for me.

Hope this helps a bit. Have fun and be safe. Gte a good helmet if you don't want to break your head heh. I got one last year and never ride park without it.

start out hitting park rails... just go straight at it with the rail between your feet when riding up to it... be comfortable bend your knees, keep your legs a bit more than shoulder width apart... get your hands low and back bent... be comfortable and low... that will help balance... hit the lip turn 90 if you want take a quick look at your feet to make sure they are on right... and then look at the end of the rail or a bit past it the whole way... and naturally you will come off the rail and turn... so don't worry about that... just worry about staying low, keeping your knees bent, not thinking about it, and looking at the end of the rail.

Thanks alot Enlighter and Dfresh. I don't have a helmet yet but I plan on getting one very soon. Anyone else got some helpful experience tips/pointers?

look at the end of the rail. just focus on the end of the rail and it will help you keep your balance. i usuially have my back foot with the rail straight under it and have the front foot with the rail a under my toes/front of my binding. oh, and keep your legs fairly close together when you learn.

just really make sure you pop off of rails. im fairly new at them too, but just remember to pop, because riding onto rails does NOT work and you will develope very bad habits. So make you sure you get a good pop off the jump, and turn 90, always commit, follow what the other kids above said, and you should be good.

speed helps go faster the first try then slow it down. also start on a short rail low to the ground

-speed is your friend on rails (to a point)

-look at the end of the rail

-COMMIT. be calm and confident, the slightest doubt in your mind is unacceptable

-practice on a small flat rail that is close to the ground

-do NOT worry about making a fool of yourself. if anyone makes fun of you or trying your first rail, it will probably be some fag 12 year old with a rag hanging out his back pocket.

and dont get discouraged, its super easy to get discouraged on rails

oh yeah? well me and my friends have been bathing off the southern coast of st. bards, chilling with spider monkeys. tripping on acid gave us a whole new perspective on shit.

> ^definitely commit

> come in straight

> keep hiking the rail even if you miss

hope these help

(keep the other tips above in mid to, but this is what i needed to learn)

honestly, don't think too much about it. just get yourself pumped and try it. if you think about it too much you'll get all worked up about it. just relax and it will come easier to you

I dropped out of high school to ski.

yeah be sure to commit to it, if you don't you're gonna come off early, either on the side, or right down the middle and nut urself... and it sucks. so make sure you're 90 degree's when gettin on, and you're perp to the rail the whole time your slidin it, cause boxes are forgiving, rails definately aren't

DONT SLIDE ON! Jump up and 90. sliding on will throw you back and you will for sure eat it and also just commit to it and stay low with legs shoulder width apart... Good luck man

its pretty simple :

find a good flat rail, preferrably wide or double like a shotgun, make sure it has a good jump on to it so you dont have to hop very high, and just get good speed and pop a quick 90 and just try to keep it locked. Make sure you know how youre gonna come out (switch or whatever) and even practice on boxes. Also i think its easiest to come strait at it

for rails longer then 10 feet make sure to keep your weight more on your front foot otherwise youll fall on your hip. try rails low to the ground hit them real slow at first. ^^ I dont know why youd say to hit them fast a first. when you hit rails fast you will lock on and have better balance but until your used to keeping your weight forward its a very bad idea. when you hit rails with speed your feet will shoot out from underneath you and youll fall hard. get only enough speed to get onto the rail, they are similar to boxes just skinnier.

Thanks a lot you guys up there ^^^. I just got a Giro 9 helmet today so now the next time i'm hittin' up some park, i'll try a rail.

the thing that fucked me up learning em is expecting resistence like sliding sideways on snow and leaning to my uphill side.

metal rails have NO resistence so keep your weight really centered and like ppl said ^ the trick to stomping anything especially rails is comitting and having confidence

your gunna have to tell us right away when you slide the rail. We will be so proud
