Sliding on a longboard?

I just got some sliding gloves, and living up here in the pnw before any snow starts falling, but plenty of rain, its great.

Plus I enjoy this video, hope you do too:

 
haha, that vid is great. i gotta get myself some sliding gloves, i had a crash not too long ago and i really could have used them...
 
.... uhhh .... too bad sliding on your hands is fucking homo. Seriously, stay on your feet and learn to slide, your heterosexuality will thank you later.
 
Alright. Ive taken corners at 40 mph+ no problem. Seriously hand sliding is the gayest thing to ever happen to longboarding.
 
have u ever used them? they sound gay but are so fun to use and make it soo much easier to powerslide. i just made some this summer and they're sick.

i did not say to just take a corner at 40mph+, thats not hard, but try and slide one, without hands you might have some serious difficulty...
 
yo a very cheap alternative to sliding gloves is buying leather work gloves and cutting out pieces of gatorade bottle and covering the palm
 
well seeing as how i don't have gloves right now, i just grab the side of my deck and pull towards whichever way i'm turning, that works okay.

but i'd like to get gloves just so that in the off-chance i actually have to put my hands down (falling off the board) i won't end up with any more of these scars i have on my palms right now.
 
yeah dude, i dont slide much but I always wear gloves when im bombing cuz its the best way to keep from getting hurt- you just hold out your hands and slide to a stop.

Gloves have saved my hands (and face) many times and sliding with gloves is definetly not gay, although keeping your hands up is cooler.
 
I don't understand how you can slide the board for so long, it seems like you would stop. Maybe i'm an idiot though, i've never skateboarded/longboarded.
 
Damn, that vid makes me want to go longboarding right now. Too bad I'm still recovering form a broken wrist from longboarding crash this summer...
 
That is a terrible idea and I wouldn't suggest that anyone waste their time on it. If you wanna make homemade gloves, dont cheap out on the sliding surface, use something stronger like plastic cutting board. The plastic from a gatorade bottle will wear out in no time at all which makes it a huge waste of time.
