I suffer from sleep paralysis on a very regular basis. Its scary as fuck, and most people i try to talk to about it either a) Dont understand the severity b) Dont believe me

Im sure there is alot of people on here that have the same issue so welcome to the OFFICIAL SLEEP PARALYSIS CLUB!

If you dont know what sleepp paralysis is, its a state of conscious dreaming similar to lucid dreaming except you are paralyzed.

You sometimes are aware of whats going on and sometimes you arnet. Most of the time you will hear noises/hallucinate.

Most of the time the sounds are incredibly amplified natural sounds like your heartbeat or hair brushing against your pillow.

The last time it happened to me i thought i had woken up, but i couldnt move. I could see to left and right of me with my peripherals but couldnt fully grasp the image. i could faintly see a large silhouette of some man/monster and heard what seemed to be a incredibly loud screaming. I had to seriously stop breathing to wake myself up as crazy as that sounds.

Anyone else?

Holy shit, Hansel, haven't you been smoking Peyote for six straight days, and couldn't some of this maybe be in your head?

had this happen a couple of times, one time i was in my dorm and my roommates came in to wake me up i tried to but couldnt move and they started beating me with pillows, i could hear them fine just couldnt move talk or open eyes for like a minute then i finally woke up same way as u did, by holding my breath. shits crazy to say the least

i hate sleep paralysis! last time it happened to me i was lying on my side and i heard loud screaming and had that feeling that someone was behind me and i could see a black figure next to my bed with my peripherals. and i felt like i was being pushed down into my bed, it's honestly scary as fuck

yeah, the fist time it happened to me i had just watched a scary movie about the paranormal and i honestly thought that's what it was. i was too scared to go back to sleep

Never had sleep paralysis but I do have super lucid dreams.

And....

The other night, I'm sure it was just me dreaming, but I'm pretty sure it's exactly what people who have "out of body experiences" feel. I was have a lucid dream that I got out of bed and was looking out my window and watching the people that were talking outside (I live on the 5th floor but the sound echos up). Then I was down there watching them and with them, but they didn't know I was there. Then I became aware of what was going on and I woke myself up, but people really were outside talking. It was so tripy. I wish I had looked outside to see what they really looked like, but it was dark out, so I couldn't have seen anyway.

I think anyone. I'm pretty sure the causes are from like disrupted sleeping, not being on a normal sleeping schedule.

technically you CAN put yourself into sleep paralysis. for the love of god though, dont take this as a challenge.

Go for lucid dreaming, fun as hell.

You there are people out there with this problem. It is definetly not fake. I have experienced things similar, but not to an extent. Nightmares will scare you if your semi concious. and it is hard to wake up. Is this what you're experiencing? Kind of like going into shock so to speak.

I've never had any so this seems kinda interesting to me... I bet it's damn scary and I wouldn't really like to test it but things like this interest me

This happens to everyone. It's just most people aren't conscious and sleeping when it happens. You body naturally paralysis your larger muscles when you sleep to prevent you from harming yourself/ surroundings during sleep. You can try to shock your body out of it by holding your breath, or you could let it happen and try and hallucinate in a way sense the part of the brain that makes sure your seeing reality shuts down, you can see things that aren't there.

This is actually just a normally occuring event in the human body. The bottom of your brainstem during sleep shuts down neurons going to skeletal muscle in order to prevent you from hurting yourself during sleep, and so if you wake up before that part of your brain has kicked back on you are conscious but technically paralyzed. So it's not like you have some disorder man.

It has happened to me also and it's one of the most uncomfortable experiences ever especially if the dream is a bad one and you want to get out of it. Feel for you if it happens often.

i've definitely had this before....most often when i fall asleep sitting up in a plane for some reason. it is the scariest most uncomfortable shit you can imagine. your body is asleep but your mind is awake and you can't move. i hate that shit.

Sometimes, when im sick and have fever i get these really weird dreams where i see different sized objects moving with various speeds on my walls, with strange noises coming from the background. Im kind of awake but still not, its really hard to explain the objects and the sounds that i hear. Could it have something to do with this sleep paralysis?

sometimes when you force your self into sleep paralysis you will lucid dream afterwards. Thats how i started to lucid dream. Its really not scary if you know whats going on, kinda fun actually.

I've been trying to force myself in Sleep Paralysis for months. I can't stay still that long. I get to the point where everything gets a bit tingly (for lack of a better word), then I feel like I can't move, so I'm like okay, lets try moving so we can see if we have it or not, and then I move and break the process...It sucks.

happens to me a lot when im sleeping on a plane, and i get that stomach fallin out of your stomach feeling then wake up. sometimes i think i hit the people next to me flailing my arms lmao

I went into sleep paralysis the other day, and I remember not being able to move and being really pissed off about it because I wanted to do something super cool. Pretty vague to be honest.

Lay on your back with your arms and legs straight. Close your eyes and resist any movement your body want you to make for like 30 minutes and I guess that's how it happens

Happened to me in the team van on the way to cycling nationals. It was so fuckin scary, but when i told everyon what happened they didnt believe me and still make fun of me for it. Its real and its scary. I was trying to yell for help because i couldnt move and i was hallucinating, but no sounds would come out. Id try to reach my arm up and try to hit one of my teammates to get their attention for help, arm couldnt move. Sucked.

yea, it happens to everyone. I think there are a few good methods out there to prevent it from happening.

yea dude. i've definitely had a full body spasm waking up from it. pretty sure i freaked a whole lot of people out on a flight i was on recently. i went into sleep paralysis 4 or 5 times during a single flight and every time i would snap out of it there would be a bunch of fools giving me dirty looks.

I get it sometimes when I'm really stressed. And to that kid who was trying to force it earlier, you're a fucking idiot. Seriously dude you don't realize how lucky you are that you can sleep through the night every night without having something like this or a really bad nightmare happen to you. Trust me dude, this isn't something you want to happen to you.

I had a lucid dream a couple of nights ago, and I was skiing Mammoth Mountain. weeeeeeoooo. Also had those dreams where you wake up before you die

One of my friends had it and he said that he was trying to shout for his mum and dad but he was only just able to groan, then his cousin(who is also my friend) had it 3 months later, sounds horrible.
