Sled skiing - DIY Ski racks?

Not living anywhere near a chairlift this winter, so naturally I bought a sled.

Was originally planning on just carrying my skis on my backpack (A-frame style) but I'm starting to reconsider on how practical that will be. Looked into how much ski racks are going for and couldn't believe how jokes the prices were.

I know threads like this exist on other sites too but just wanting to see any new ideas. ATV Rifle racks seem like the best bet.

Wondering what some of you guys have done to make DIY set ups with your sled? And any advice on what works/doesn't work would be much appreciated!

Post pics!

If there is a local aluminum welder in the area you live in I would say draw some plans and pay him to build you one. Snowmobile racks are expensive.

Or just shove the ski in the foot hold on one side if your staying on mellow routes.

things like this work to..

My roommate put one together with a bunch of aluminum pieces, some bolts and two gun rack holders but it's pretty ghetto.

I'm going to make mine out of steel. Going to design it with my buddy and have him weld it up.

There's some threads online I looked at, but just welding something up I feel is going to be the best bet.

.

I have a feeling mine might end up similar to this. There's not much to strap them to currently as it's pretty much just the light duty aluminium bumper in the back..

Maybe bolt on a small steel bar at the rear of the tunnel to mount the rifle rack to.

I'll post photos when I'm done.

I'll do the same!

Yeah the only thing I'd be worried of is the aluminum is really soft, make sure you have some big washers haha

what kind of sled you using

also id stay away from rifle racks they stand taller than ski racks an can be very dangerous i made some last season but have buddies that work at a sheet metal shop so i gave them my drawings an later that day he brought them buy haha ill look for pics

The best thing to rack skis is a real ski rack.

I have been at this for a while and seen all kinds of contraptions to hold boards on the machine. sleds expensive and so are skis , so why do people want to use the cheapest mickey mouse shit to put the two together?

Nothing worse than breaking your skis while transporting them on your sled.

I would consider a CFR rack. they even make a quick connect system so you can take the entire rack on and off again (for days when you are just sledding) . and the guys from CFR are awesome.
