prove to me landis' lack of talent. seriously please do! because i must have been riding with a different landis then the one you are referring to.
 
i wish slandis would post more. one of the most helpful people on here. answers waaaaayyyyy too many pm's. and i think that the fact that he already has a two page thread about a single sponsorship that he has makes him some what well known and putting someone well known on your team is usually a good idea.
 
the only reason he has a two page thread is because of all the hate. hes a legit homo and the truth needs to be known about it.
 
He made hands down my favorite edits of the last few years. I hope the industry continues to support him so he can continue to make cool shit happen
 
i dont believe that i said he has a two page thread of love. the controversy surrounding this is widely know to have two pages. HE IS WELL KNOWN. that's why he's sponsored. i have no idea about his skiing. so i'm not going to say anything about it. i've never skied with the kid.

you are a robot machine then? people crash. i do remember a thread about a skier who died becasue he was reverting after landing switch caught his edge and hit his head and died. that doesnt mean he was a bad skier, things happen like that.

Landis has the personality traights people and companies look for. He has the resources that can sell the companies goods.

You can be a mediocre skier, but you can still be sponsored. You can be the most amazing skier on the planet, but if your a douchebag, no one is going to want to sponsor you. Your represtenting the company, and that company wants you to look good. If you can sell yourself to them, they'll want you. For the average sponsored skier on this website, they get hook ups, maybe even a bit more, no big contracts, most of the stuff local or you know a rep and they like your style. None of this salary, big filming oppurtunites kinda stuff that you would find in a pro contract.

The times,they are a changing. You better catch up
 
I don't make a single dollar being sponsored...most riders don't. But the support I get from these companies that allow me to further pursue my passion is worth so much more than any tangible frill.

I'm working a deal with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort right now, I don't even care about the hook-ups i'll get, I'm just stoked and feel good that I can go around and help the ski hill out. Their supporting me (along with my shop sponsor).But I'm stoked on going up there and helping out with events and junk like that.

Even if you could sw 1800 super steezed out with an octograb off of a 120ft. cliff, I would still have more respect for Slandis with the great attitude and character vs. you with all the hate and "badass" attitude. (Well I dunno, a "sw 1800 super steezed out with an octograb off of a 120ft. cliff" is pretty dope I have to admit...)

But before you start ripping on me remember I'm just judging both Slandis and you on what you guys are like online and on NS, not in real life. So don't take this too personally, for all I know you could be the chillest guy in the world.

As for Landis being sponsored, I think it was a great choice for Oakley, as he is a very much respected member of NS and the skiing community, and lets face it, once you're famous on NS you're pretty much set for life; in skiing at least. I think kids are trying waay to hard to be the next Wallisch and personally, I think there's just too many of those kids now that can throw doubles and cork 7s like breakfast that it would be very hard to choose who to sponsor. You might as well put all their names in a hat and draw a couple names to sponsor each season.

You watch, in the next few years (if not months) there will be another 100 Gus Kenworthy's waiting to be sponsored. Landis on the other hand, in my opinion, was sponsored for his overall talent and attitude, not just for his skiing. Sure there are kids better than him, I'm sure there are lots, but do any of them have the talent he has, the fan base he already has without being sponsored, and the level of involvement he already has with the skiing industry?

No, the industry isn't going wack, I actually think its going the right direction; not just rewarding those who have the skills but also those who have character and bring a smile to your face. You watch, Slandis will blow up, he'll be the next big thing in skiing, and yet another name to go from blue to orange on NS.

Congrats Landis, and I'll be expecting Neon pretty soon buddy, you have no excuse now haha.

Being sponsored is a job. You get a job by being the best candidate out of everyone that has applied. You apply with a "sponsor me" tape. "Sponsor me" tapes are like resumes. From what I've seen, Landis makes some good "sponsor me" edits that show good skiing, eloquence in promoting a product and appeal to the market that a company is aiming for. Therefore, it doesn't surprise me that he's getting all these sponsorships.

congrats landis! ive been looking for a new pair of goggles, and i wasnt leaning towards oakely until i heard this. im glad that oakley is trying to pick out different types of skiers. that will eventually push our sport in more directions, and start allowing us to see things in a different way, the future should be interesting!
 
Guys guys Please stop, there are 2 kinds of sposorized. PAID AND FLOW, if he is getting paid i would be very surprised but more power to him, and flow dont mean shit tell you murder a contest or become better, the the cash comes
 
looks like a decent number of people have had there hatorade. which is fucking bullshit. from what ive seen landis' skiing is far from average. it angers me that people out of jealousy have to be fucking douchbags. congrats landis. cant wait for neon.

Haha, this is gettin heated. Hopefully people arent hatin on slandis for getting this sponsorship. He's just doin his own thing and oakley decided to sponsor him for whatever reason. The problem here is it sucks for the kids that work hard at skiing and are better but yet dont have a sponsorship like this. But obviously oakley sees somethin in the kid and you cant really argue with that. There arent rules that companies have to abide by when sponsoring someone. That said im pretty sure he doesnt get the same sponorship as tanner hall, he prob just gets free clothes and goggles and with the price of television adds these days it's way cheaper to advertise your stuff that way. If you really hate the fact that he got sponsored dont hate on him, boycott oakley instead. haha j/k. I will never stop wearing my crowbars!

sponsorships is about so much more then the ability to ski, it's based as much on your personality. It's about getting the company GOOD recognition, which i'd say Landis will be able to deliver without a doubt. You got the exact same possibilities to contact a company as Landis had, RIGHT? Then it's up to that company to decide whether you got something that will make that company willing to sponsor you or not.

And it's not all about the tricks, i'd rather see something different, no matter if it's a 3 or a sw 9. But whatever, go out and continue practicing your average sw 10, they will definetly make you stand out and get you spansorsizzored. NOT.

Keep training, get some good tricks, and ski for the fun of it, as well as getting some humility and appreciation for other people and I promise you that you will get that sponosrship. But maybe at that point you've already realized it wasnt all about sponsorships anyway.

This thread is filled with sooo much jealousy it's not even funny. Have fun and keep training guys.

 
sponsorships are supposed to be a two way street. they help you out with gear or whatever else in return for advertisement and someone who promotes their product on the hill (in theory). obviously oakley believes he can do that. i am not sponsored, i want to be, but i don't hate on other people because they are. congrats on the deal. oakley is so dope
