Skis with Springs

So im doing this dumbass project for marketing and i have to make my own product. I was thinking about making skis with springs built into the structure... what does everyone think?

i think it would be more effective to make a pair of gloves that have a watch built into the back of one so you dont have to take off your glove to check the time.

i dont think that there would be springs small enough to be implanted into a ski that would actually make a difference. would like to see this work tho

A very long time ago before shape skis existed, a friend of mine and I were discussing this very thing over beers. The idea was to create a ski that would progressively stiffen, the more pressure was put on it. In other words, it would be softer at the start of the turn, and then it would stiffen as you were carving out of the fall line.

I was told that a few NASA scientists worked with some ski designers from K2 and they actually came up with a ski that did this. I'm not making this up. Mike Porter was a ski tester for K2 and he tested these.

Increasing the side-cut of the ski solved this problem and made progressive stiffening unnecessary. Somewhere there is a pair of K2's with a microchip in them and pressure plates under the bindings. I believe that chemical structure of the ski is actually altered as more pressure is applied to the ski.

I'd say go for it though. This is a pretty awesome time to make skis. Everybody thinks that they have come up with the right combo of shape, stiffness and torsional rigidity. The sky is the limit.

What about skis with a built in watch do you don't have to take your glove off to check the time???

how about an oven you can program from your phone to preheat so when you get home all you need to do is put in your pizza/chicken nugs/ whatever

My sister had world cup stock race skis with microchips in them, no shit.Blew my mind, don't really know what they did for her though. Looked cool at least.

I have these skis. They are the HEAD Rebels line, and if you load up the ski you can really feel it. SO basically, the ski stores energy from microvibrations throughout it's structure and regulates to stiffen at higher speeds and higher tension upon the box. It's absolutely awesome, and can really kick your crap if you use it right.

while on the topic of bad and unrealistic ideas.. put a chamber for water in a skis. put water in the chamber. ski stiffens as it gets colder

how about instead of actual springs, come up with some design with springs like one springfree trampolines.

those plastic strips that bend down on impact, just really tiny ones in the base.

Yeah i tought of this too, but with like reversed type of adjustable dampers to set stiffness

Volkl has skis with springs them. Turn a switch on the ski and it stiffens.....well is suppose to stiffen or change something...but with most different ski designs it really does nothing for you but add more parts that can break...check them out, their called the Volkl tigershark 11 with the "power switch".

Interesting. Makes sense that someone would be trying to do this. We have adjustable drivers for golf; why not adjustable skis.

Guys, this smart technology already exhists! It goes way beyond cooking your pizza! This is a feature we've been building into homes of upscale clients ( not cheap) not just your oven! You can turn lights on and off, close tour garage door, program your washer, dishwasher , check house alarm, change thermostat. Yep, the time of the jetsons is here! We just can't keep astro from pissing in the house!
