Skis Scraping PVC Rail

Thats what the gummy and diamond stone are for. The file detunes the most, while the diamond stone and gummy stone clean the burs and extras. I bought everything for $40 ion REI

Are they necessary though? Would I fare well just using a file for my backyard setup?

I would get something to clean up the filing. It leaves burs and you can catch pretty easy. Detuning helps to deal with edge cracks and catching on rails. If you can just even get a gummy stone that would work too. If you can't get either, get some sand paper and go hard with that

I'll check my ski store tomorrow

But you were wrong, that is why I told you about bases. I appreciate your techniques, you obviously have experience, but some things you say don't seem to always make a whole lot of sense.

A base grind can be done on any ski, what you going on about? If you, or the shop you bring them to knows what they are doing there will be no problem. I heard you talk poorly of them, but if done correctly it will be fine. You also have to remember that we are talking about park skis, your 1/10th of a second isn't going to matter. A base high ski might sound ideal, but you still need to carve. I'd prefer flat, but to each his own.

Just tell the kid to buy a 10 cent sheet of sandpaper and be done with it (because really it is all you need for a detune to work). No need to be fancy.

Here you go. Sintruded and 50-50's

No worries. Here is an example.

Here is a link to a ski with a 50-50 base. Prety much same as sintruded

Make sure it is schedule 40 PVC. Other PVC's can be softer and will be able to be dug into way easier by your ski edge.

I just got my skis detuned at a ski shop, so hopefully it'll be good.

These are 3 year old skis that haven't been used in a while, so do you think a base grind would be worth it?

No.

Now try them again on the PVC and see how they do as far as not cutting up the pipe!

Let us know the results.

The detune helped a little, but I still felt like something was weird. I found a candle, and rubbed some wax on the rail, and that helped tremendously. Everything is perfect now!

Awesome! make sure to put water on the rail as well, it helps a lot. Have fun!

Awesome! Thanks for the quote so I would get a note to look back here.

Anyway if you did a good job you should not be cutting up the PVC so much and lubing the tube with wax was a good call! Take care man.
