Skis on a plane

I'm thinking about taking my park skis home with me for winter break. I have a ski bag but it appears to be 100 bucks to check. is this for real it seems a little pricey? also has anyone had major issues with equipment damage?
there is probably already a good thread about this but i couldn't find it

Well it is very close to the holidays and airline companies will charge you out the ass for anything around this time. But if you want to ride your own sticks instead of some rental ones, Id go for it.

i have my czars at home, so i guess the question is what is looking better right now in CO, the parks or the rest of the mountain

thanks, i checked back on the site and it isn't $100, however it sounds like they don't want outwear in the bag with the skis, does any one pack their outerwear in with their skis and know if they check?

well, with Breck being tied with Alta for their seasonal totals, I'd say things are looking quite nice ;)

I was really hoping OP had made a parody with annoying 13 year old NSers running rampant on a plane

I've taken skis on planes plenty of times, and they've never actually checked inside the ski bag to see what else I'm packing in there (which is a lot).

I'd say the terrain can be as good, but not as much as alta. at breck you gotta find the right spots or it's all gaper steezed out.

I've never heard anything about not backing other stuff in ski bags.

I always wrap by skis in my ski pants, jacket, gloves, long underwear etc. this is my way of saying, "go ahead, throw it. Doesn't matter to me."

Between stuffing all my stuff in my ski bag (I actually use a snowboard bag... more space) and carrying on my boots, the only bag I check is the ski bag. The rest I can fit into a carry on.

I have to fly back and forth from school and home pretty often and i bring my skis most times. They usually only charge me 35 for them (on united) and they always check the inside. In the past they did not but lately with all of the strict regulations for airports they do. They charge $100 for a second set (on united) and I had to pay it one time because I showed up with two sets in my ski bag. I would recommend shipping them if you can because it is usually cheaper and nice to not have to wait for them after a flight.

they weigh it to make sure its under X number of pounds. i wanna say its 50lbs.

last time my ski bag weighed 52lbs and the lady was giving me a hard time. i was like, "bitch please" (thats what i was thinking)

I fly with 2 pairs of skis in my Oakley roller 2-4 times a year and I've never had a problem. $20 for checked bags with Alaska Airlines. I remember when it was free like 2-3 years ago, that was the shit.

"IM TIRED OF THESE GOD DAMN SKIS ON THIS GOD DAMN PLANE!!!!"

ahhhhh SAMUAL L. JACKSON RAGE!!!

my brother just took a pair of my skis and adjusted the bindings.

I just flew Delta and it was $60 to check 2 bags.

One ski bag with 2 pairs of skis and packed with my outerwear. And the second with my boots and regular clothes.

No idea. But a lot of peeps on TGR seem to be getting Binding Freedom inserts for this purpose, and shipping.

ive flown a shit ton. and your allowed two checked bags, and one of those can be a ski bag no problem. never had any issues with this , good luck!

I can't remember if it was a bike or a ski company that made a bike/ski bag that look like a golf club bag because you would never get charged for golf clubs. I think it was a bike brand because on the outside I believe it said DkGolf.

If its under 25 lbs they wont charge u much and u can pack tons of cloths in wth the skis - u tell them it's for padding.

the number 1 reason to fly on southwest, 2 bags fly free and that includes a ski bag. if you can you should always fly southwest, their fares and checked bags rules make them the cheapest airline to fly. im flying to salt lake tomorrow, taking my skis and all that crap, i pack my gear into my ski bag for added protection (have never been hassled about that), $230 round trip from portland oregon.
getting charged for luggage is absolute bullshit these days, i flew to boston a couple months ago, my tickets cost me like $550 round trip, but i paid almost $150 in checked baggage fees. fuck that shit, airline companies are total dickbags charging for every single possible thing they can. i flew all the way across the country and back and did not get a single meal. almost $700 to sit in a tiny ass seat smashed into a narrow row with 2 other people for 6 hours getting no food.

I'M TIRED OF THESE MONKEY FIGHTING SNAKES ON THIS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY PLANE!!!!!

Tv bleeped version right thur.

I just flew on delta and they charge $30/checked bag including skis as long as its under 50 lbs. They also said if you wanted to check your boots in a separate bag you can do it for free if the boot bag and ski bag together is under 50 lbs.
