Skis, How Old IS Too Old

Ok i was just wondering how old skis can be b4 they turn into things that u just through away, like model wise.

Just tell me what year u think skis turn into old skis, like if they r from 2000 or sumtin.

and just so everybody knows i did rock a pair of the blue atomic tweaks all year, and now im finally trading up to some k2s.

once they dont ski like they used too. i think newer skis are a lot shittier. a few years ago skis were bomb proof, now they seem to crap out in a year or two. it could also be the trend of soft skis, which would obviously loose pop and camber a lot faster.

kinda depends on how much you use them. Most old skis wont have any life left in them. Also skis are always getting more advanced. But i never understand why people need that years skis. I always get ski that are a year or two old and then ski them for a couple seasons. I never have the problem of them getting way to old cuz they just get ruined by then.

absolutely. i've still got some old atomic super g skis from like 2001 that i take out once or twice a season. i'm thinking about mounting them backwards this year.

any ski is still perfect if it is still in the wrapper. 90% of park skis right now have not really changed in the past 3 years. Sandwhich or cap construction, fiberglass/wood/foam core....etc. It all depends on you.

well u gotta get new skis every season cuz you wont be cool if you have last seasons or older skis, not really depends on the condition of them but getting new skis is a good idea bcause companys find out what works and what doesnt and the technology gets better and better every season

ive got some crazy old skis, like early 90's also some from the early 2000's. i dont ski them much, if not at all(maybe 2 a season) but i like to ski newer skis, like i ski 05 rossignols, and they are slightly better, but not way to much better then the older skis

My favorite pair of skis are from 2002-2003, have been mounted 3x, been ridden about 200 days, and have about half a tube of epoxy holding them together. They still ski like new. All I have to say is putting a sheet of metal under the topsheet is ridiculously awesome.

I just usually buy last years skis. I bought scratches from the GB sale for next year. If I do decide to pickup any current year ski next year it'll be the anthems. I see no need to buy new skis every year, plus if you ski something for a month into the season, the pair you wanted at the start you can get used for 2/3s the price in perfect condition.

I think old skis are sweet. Usually, when you see someone with yellow 1080s or other old twins, its a pretty good chance they rip and they've been with freeskiing for a while.

I love my dorion pros from like 2001. they still ski pretty well too.

Well, don't confuse old and used. I just bought some old lines, the 02-03 Skog pro models. How ever they have not been used so they are brand new. As far as when you should throw skis away because they are too old, never. Ski them till they wear out, or sell them. Why would you throw them away.

For freestyle, skis made before the first Rossi scratch (red ones 2002?) just dont ski the way people want them to so you just wont be able to sell them.

i just did that too. AR6's for 350. i mean same ski as the 08 is gunna be right? i like this years graphic (181) better anyways

its pretty sick to see someone throwing down on older twins tho, like first gen 1080s or the original lines or pow airs (not pow air grinds tho, they were gay)

after 90 full days on the snow a skis core is considered done... that is a ski has lost it's intended flex pattern and no longer returns energy. That being said, a pair of well used skis can still be a lot of fun for buttering and such, but they would be much different than a new ski designed with a soft flex that would still return energy through turns or off jumps. foam cores tend to break down much more quickly than wood.

I'm skiing some mad trix from 4 years ago. Lots of edge missing, remount 3 times. But I'll ski them till they break cause I don't care about my skis that much.

i use straight skis i get from the dump. the ones im on right now are size 180 and they are from the mid 80's. so i would say there is no such thing as to old for skis. just ride em till u break em.
