Skis for teaching?!

I just got a job teaching and was wondering if I should use my nice skis (Volkl Bridges) teaching or if I should buy a beater pair?

I'm getting my certification next month and I'm kinda wondering this too. I've got a pair of candide 2.0's and a pair of lizzies (not much choice there haha) which would be the ones to use if I'm literally only teaching complete noobs

As the others have said get a beater pair, ex demo or something. You don't want to be on massive skis either chasing kids about. Most of the instructors I managed when I ran resorts for companies were on stuff like Head Titans or all mountain twins like ARV TI's.

You want something so beaten that its not going to matter when the kids; stand on them, knock them over, other people stand on them in lift lines or knock them over etc...

Depending on what level of clients you're teaching I would recommend either slalom skis - of course no need the latest model or FIS approved or good all round skis, not too large and no twin tips as it blows the snow in the kids face when they ski behind you haha- it's a good compromise to look like a "good technical instructor", you're actually able to do a correct demo if needed (short turns etc) without drifting cause your edges are ruined from rails and as other said you don't care if kids or noobs step on them haha. I'm a ski instructor in Switzerland and that's what we all use here! Hope this helps!

what about when you need to reverse snowplow? doesn't not having a tail sorta fuck that up too

Since it's your first year you will probably be doing a lot of beginner lessons so what I would do is get some short cheap skis. I prefer twin tips for skiing backwards but if you aren't going to be doing any skiing backwards off the bunny hills you can get away with non twins.

Nah it's alright and you're never going too fast in switch snowplow anyways aha

Mate just get some cheap carving skis from last season. They will probably get a bit beat up i know mine did. but if you are going to need park skis may as well get some instead as they will be fine to teach on and would get beat up the park a ton more anyway. tbh you might want something skinnier underfoot as well with a bit more camber.

A beater pair is a good call. I was teaching kids and really liked having a soft ski that i could goof around on. Kids love it when you nose press all the way up the magic carpet

As a new instructor, expect to be teaching mostly never-evers. At best, your topsheets will be destroyed, at worst, delam. Also, if your normal skis are heavy beasts, remember that you'll spend a lot of time skating uphill.

On the other hand, take into account your mountain's layout. Most allow a run before/after lineup and that could be the only good free run of your day, you might not want that to be on a pair of beaters.

teach in your favorite skis. I've taught and was advised to buy shitty skis and regretted it. kids stepping on your skis do nothing, their edges are too dull. plus it's not hard to avoid

I'm not an instructor but I would say some kind of twin tip bc sometimes you have to ride backwards to watch the person

Dude teach on the lizzies for sure. Never not be pressing.

This is a good question. I tried teaching 2 seasons ago but couldn't stand it haha. I just got frustrated all the time. Needless to say I got a pair of K2 press skis for teaching. They are super light and very inexpensive. These skis worked fantastic especially when you have to walk back up the hill in them haha

I use a pair of 166 Line Anthems (ltd. Spirals, Love that graphic) when I teach because as noted above they get beat up from clients riding on them. I love the length because I can skate around no problem and super light. When I actually ski I use a pair of 178 Jski AllPlay Blackouts, gotta keep em crispy.
