Skis for Summer Setup

Another summer setup thread.

I'm considering having a rail setup in my backyard this summer but I don't know what I should use for skis if I do. Right now I just have one pair of all-mountain/park skis and some old directional 130s or something from when I was 10. I'm guessing that it's a bad idea to use my normal skis because the bases will probably get beaten up. How would it be to use my old skis? I'm worried that 1) It's going to be harder to learn tricks on them, and 2) I won't be able to transfer the tricks I learn to my actual skis. I'll also have to figure out what to use for bindings if I use these

So should I use one of these pairs that I already have, or would it be worth it to buy a pair of beater skis to use with the setup? Any other advice?

Buy some actual park skis if you can but otherwise, use your main pair. A summer setup literally doesn’t do anything to your bases, and even if it did it prolly wouldn’t make a difference... I’ve ridden some god awful bases and I couldn’t tell any difference between new-ish bases

Bump. I'm still undecided on what I should do.

Does anyone have experience with backyard summer setups? If so, what did you use for skis (was it your main pair) and did you notice them wearing down at after a bunch of use on the setup?

Thanks everyone for input and advice

Had a set up a while ago, used my beater skis because they started to delam, and had just bought a new pair. But I would have used my main pair anyway. Just make sure there's no rocks or anything in the landing or near the rail.

My skis are definitely more beat from the summer setup. 100% worth it tho. Just buy some beaters if you can get em for cheap. The directinal ski would probably work fine as far as shape goes but 130 is very short in length

Buy some beaters or use the old ones. I snagged a destroyed pair for 50 bucks. My setup destroyed my skis. So glad I didn’t use my normal skis. Tricks weren’t hard to transfer to snow as well

If you don't want to buy skis, just use your main pair. You're really not going to hurt them unless there are rocks around.

Main pair will be fine, the bottoms might get a bit dirty but once you ski on snow again they clean right off. I've been using an old pair on my setup and so far theres been no difference from what it was before
