Skis for Japan??? Please help fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey fellas so I'm heading over to Japan in jan/feb and as I'm from aus this will be the first time I ski some real pow.

Just wondering how a pair of alpha 1s will go over there? As they are my 1 ski quiver over here.

Would I better off getting a pair better suited to pow? I've always fancied the tst's and been checking out the line SFB lately. Any suggestions?

The alpha1s will dive pretty fast in anything deeper than a light dusting, they won't hold up to the amount of snow you'll be skiing when you go in jan/feb. I know if I was skiing in Japan I would take a pair of 120 waisted, moderate flexing, twin rockered pair skis with dukes/barons and a pair of 130+ waisted skis for the storm days. Thanks for your help mate but I forgot to mention I was not too keen on getting a full on pow ski as I won't use them over here in aus, so I was leaning towards something a bit more versatile/all mountain such as the tst. How would these tackle Japan pow? Any other suggestions? Cheers
 
If you wan't a ski thast will handle over in Aus as well as Japan would look in 100-110 waist range. Personally I would lean more towards the 110 end as I prefer wider skis. Although a ski around the 100 mark would suffice I have ski my deepest days ever on a 100 waisted ski because that was all I had with me at the time. Considering the terrain/japan I would look for a twin rockered, moderately flexing etc. Skis you might wan't to consider are ON3P Jeffrey,Line SFB,Rossignol Sickle,Salomon Rocker2 108 (a rocker2 122 with a slimmed down waist). Ultimately you would be happier in Japan on the above skis however skis closer to 100 underfoot would offer greater versatility. If you are considering a waist around 100 you may want to look at Moment PB&J, Line Blend,ON3P Jeronimo
 
What kinda of powder ski are you looking for OP?

You looking for more directional or Jibby pow ski? Or whats more your style? Hardcore charging or playful jumping everywhere? Plan to go switch a lot?

NS'rs can give better advice but need to know more.
 
Screw it man, you're going there to ski pow, so get a pow ski. Something 115+ with loads of rocker. When I was out there my 2 friends on Obsetheds (the old 105mm waisted ones) both reckoned they would have liked a wider ski.

You could try and sell them while you're over there (skis go for huge money for some weird reason) or when you get back, if you find you don't like them. At the same time you might be pleasantly surprised by their performance on hardpack.
