Skipping college for a year to ski

ive decided that i am not going to go right to college. im gunna go do some skiing around the country living off nothing... prly get a job working at a resort and taking it from there. any one done something like this?
 
I will be. apply and get a deferral for whatever college you get into because then you will have guaranteed admission the next year.
 
thats what im doing. only im going for music and you need to audition for it and chances are they wont hold me a spot because there are such limited admissions. but im hopefull
 
yea im a junior right now and i wanna do the same thing but havent met anyone that has done it before.

wanna apply to boulder engineering school and differ and then take a year off and ski.

any feedback from fellow do'ers
 
it's a popular idea, but you have to decide which is more important to you, getting a college education or getting the deep stuff.

personally, i knew that if i took time off after hs, i probably wouldnt have put the effort in to go back to college later in life, and that the timing was best for me to just do it right away due to scholarships and the such. i ended up being motivated to finish school in 4 years, and then moved out west. in hindsight, it was a great decision. college was a blast, and now im skiing the worlds greatest snow.

if you realize that a high percentage of people who don't go directly to college after hs or leave college early do not end up returning despite their intentions, and you are ok with that, do it. do what makes you happy, just be sure you make the right choice for you, not for what you think other people may see as the way to go.
 
My buddy went out to Brighton for a year after we graduated high school. He came back and is still in school, but he wishes he never left. Just make sure you're committed to going back to school, 'cause you will most likely not want to leave the ski bum lifestyle. Props for doing it though, I wish I did it myself...
 
I'm looking at doing the same, except not in the country.

If I can defer acceptance from universities then I plan on going to Switzerland for a couple months to ski, then somewhere to surf for the rest of the year.

So stoked.
 
check out Montana State University in Bozeman. spring term i have classes tuesdays and thursdays which means ill be shredding Big Sky 5 days a week. that is, if your willing to make the compramise of skiing and school.
 
i did that after high school and was so stoked i did! went out to mammoth for the season and had some epic, epic skiing fe sho!...then i shot myself in the foot and went to north carolina for the first year of school, transferred to utah and have loved it here ever since! if youre commited to going back to school after that one year its almost as if your even more dirven to make that one year that much more fun!
