Skinning on JJ's

so i have some unmounted JJ's and have yet decided on bindings. Im starting to think dukes might be a really good idea as i do no park with them. Is it really worth having touring bindings? how much more efficient is it than hiking? oh, and are jj;s good for it? thanks

skinning is WAY better than hiking, like way way way way way betterjj's skin fine, they're a bit heavy but you can easily make it up and they grab fine you just need to be good at cutting skins so you can get them all set. they're a great slackcountry ski, so perfect for skiing all day and then throwing your skins on to do a short skin to get some untracked stuff, but i wouldn't take these on a 2.5 hr+ tourso basically get dukes if you think you have good chances to do short tours because hiking in pow sucks balls whereas skinning is really easy

This.

I have said set-up. I love it. I will never boot-pack again as long as I have my JJs and skins.

You'll love it. I promise.

kinda heavy for an AT set up, and the rocker gives them less contact with the snow making it harder. and most people dont have AT boots if they are just using them as a slackcountry ski so blisters will happen. im getting JJs with dukes to use for no more then a 45min tour

the rocker isn't really an issue it's just the weight, i mean even on touring boots with dukes and jj's it starts to really wear you down after about 1.5 hrs and you can hang in there another hour but then you're pretty much spenti use bc100's with dynafits for longer tours and that's the way to go if you're considering doing regular 3+ hr toursbut yeah using relatively stiff alpine boots you will start to get hotspots about a half hour in the tour and then after an hour you'll have gnarly blisters

thats crazy, i didnt know that. ive really been looking into getting an AT setup as well i dont even know where to start haha

Personally, I think the JJs are the LIGHT part of the set-up. The Dukes (in my case Barons) are sooooo heavy. But they're that way so you can ski at resorts and not beat the living shit out of them or break them compared to a "lighter" set-up.

Also, I use FT Konflicts. So light, comparable to AT boots IMO.

yeah jj's are light for what they are but no matter what for long tours when you have dukes on there they start to feel brutal compared to bc100's with dynafits
they're way lighter than the s7 but they're still pretty heavy with dukes on them
