Skiing's Awesome, but no one will do it....

Man, in my area, manitoba, everyone wants to snowboard. Because it's the "cool" thing. Since I live in the praries no one wants to learn to ski. They don't even know what damn newschool is. It sucks.

I'm basically making this thread because my freestyle team is dying. There's no one that wants to start in freestyle. Everyone boards. I don't get it. Skiing's way easyier to learn first time. You don't fall on your ass all day until it's sore as hell. The coaches are moving on, no new members.

I have to convert kids to skiing or somehow get all the racers to want to learn freestyle and newschool. But no one wants to. I have no idea what to do. I don't want this to happen to my home. What do you all think about it?
 
sit them down and show them some sick footy. ski porn. skimatic. def. skimatic. and some nice little homemade stuff too
 
Yeah man, like all my friends. They all board. They all think ski vids are way better then boarding vids, and crazyier. But they all don't want to ski. Everybody boards, everyone starts boarding becasue everybody does it. I'm stuck in a damn pickle in manitoba. I dont want it to die here.
 
hmmm....move to utah where all the light fluffy fresh and all the resorts you could ever want are!
 
yea im one of two newschoolers at my highschool in NE ohio. i get bashed on it a lot, but i turn around and slip them the biggest mid finger ever. fuck snowboardign
 
Yeah at firs, i was the only freeskier at my school. Now theres 4 of us, and more people who ski. all the boarders respect skiers, so its sweet. just share your passion of the sport with others, and maybe it'll catch on. worked for me
 
same man theres 2 of us at my school, used to be 3 but one guy moved. theres a few boarders i see here and there but other than that.... anyways, i like being a lone skier amoong boarders especially around here cause everyone is so easily impressed my a skier doing pipe and rails and jumps and the like. plus, i get loads of respect from boarders cause i can do tricks on skis
 
in penfiled n.y everyone tries boarding cause thats what they think is cool, but if they looked in the park they would find out the coolest ppl are the ones with 2 boards under their feet, when i tell chicks i ski, the fuckin laugh (or guys) and they'll never really understand..

i also hate it when someone thinks there a better skier than you b.c they can go straight down a run and get down faster than you
 
most people at my school board too. my senior class is 400 people and about 6 are newschool skiers and maybe 25 are seriour boarders. probably 100 boaders just go to the local mini hill and suck.
 
ive known people that dissed skiing and thought boarding was way better... but all those people smell (quite literally) and dont deserve attention

anyway if you were to try and 'convert' people i would reccomend getting racers and incorporating some chill boarders into your team
 
In jounior high, i was the only kid who skied.If any of your friends are boarders, just ride with them and work on your shit in the park. Sucky boarders will see you and may give it a second look. Catch is that you can't look gay in the park or thats what everyone will associate skiing with. Long story short, just ride for yourself and people will start to see it differently.
 
I feel you home slice, we have the burton flagship store in burlington so everyone is all talk no game, "yeah I snowboard" durka durka durka. fuck them man, just shred your mountain and try to make friends with anyone thats into park or atleast is considering it and hang tight. you can do it!
 
y does it have to be people from your school? like all my friends that ski are from all over that just ski at my hill, whats the differenence if your the only one or its just you. Get good enough so that they cant not respect your skills, or just ski for fun and not worry about people makin fun of u
 
yea, i know quite a few people in and from winnipeg, and they are all snowboarders. but is that a bad thing? I mean what do you really need the freestyle team for? If you start preaching skiing to everyone, you might find yourself loosing friends, not just skiing companions. The way I see it - if you want to make snowboarders switch to skiing you gotta be better then them... learn to do a 180 nose butter into a jump and spin a switch cork 810 double grab into a tail press, pretzel out.

 
in my school there are olny about 4 newschool skiiers, but its a pretty small school. and if you really want more free skiiers maybe you should consider paying newschool skiiers to come and ski.
 
you should call it the black sheep cult. haha, but yeah, let them do what they want, i ski with boarders, there's no problem, as long as they can keep up and push you to do more with your skiing there's not really any problem being with boarders, you'll just stand out a bit more, which attracts the females if you're good. haha, so go get them ladies.
 
i hate the poser snoowboarders who talk shit to skiiers who give us real snowboarders a bad name. also every one says (not neccisarily in this thread) that only the good snowboarders are chill. well i suck but im down with skiiers. its not reallly youre skioll more your attitude
 
you have to throw down some sick shit and get kids to be like i want to do that and theyyll start skiing

just become the best overall at your school and you get respect...and when a snoborder dis's u u take it to the moutain and do some ownin hahahaha
 
i'm a border town with canada and i ski in canada and there is like 3 twintippers there and the rest boarders. i started out xc, went to racing, then went to freeskiing. so dont give up cuz once you get the ski fever you cant stop.
 
where i live a lot of kids that boarded stopped and started skiing and im one for example and i must say skiing is way better
 
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, now that one person converted from snowboarding to skiing and he has said he likes it better, lets put that post on a huge billboard in every city of the country :)
 
Yes I can snowboard too. I started skateboarding and wakeboarding 2 years before I started skiing. My bro snowboards so I'mm board everyonce in a while. And snowboarding is much harder your first day. Way harder.

Also, I do ski with all my friends. Of course I do. The only people I really ski with are boarders. Just none of my friends are that good and non of the boarders are. There are some good guys, but they are full of themselves and assholes. There are some nice guys though. It's fun to ride with boarders, but I still want a skier to push me.
 
Hahaha. It's not horrible. You'd be surpirsed what can get done. At least we have a freestyle assiociation here. Saskatchewan doesnt. Like, they dont get any support from a higher body. And no, i would never stop skiing even if I was the only skier in all of manitboa. Skiing is the best thing that I have ever got into. It is by far the most fun and challenging. Nothing could stop me from skiing, nothing.
 
i started off snowboarding 3 years ago and didn't like it so i rented skis and never looked back. bought some PE's last year and i'm addicted.
