sure it may not be life, but when your a kid, (I am 16..) why not be seriously involved in it? sure you might not be pro but its something that is awesome that you can be devoted to while your growing up. like I have a job, friends (who don't ski) and go to school, my life doesn't revolve around skiing but it sure is something I love.

hmmm a lot of people dont quite understand where daryll is coming from. personally i think hes just a little bitter because he has been living in a tent tree planting for the past 2 months, trying to make some money. it basically just made him stupid, he was so far from civilitation.. out in the boonies of norther ontario hours away from the closest city that only has like 4000 people which is hours away from the next city that only still has 4000 people. hmm so where was i going with this? i guess its nice to follow your dreams and try and go pro, but you need something to fall back on ... and i think daryll is realizing that, even though in my opinion he is living a very intresting life ( basically just couch surfing with no job and no money... seeing where he winds up) daryll just knows a lot from experience..

You make a descent point, but I don't agree.

If you just want to ski for a hobby then go right ahead. For some people skiing is a lifestyle; for others it's a way of life.

It is not SKIING itself that means so much to people but everything that goes with it - the freedom, the release, the environment, good company, and being able to leave your troubles behind.

I admit, some make it their way of life and see being a pro skier as the ultimate goal. Maybe they won't make it that far, but where's the damage in them trying?

By way of life, I don't mean that skiing should be what you live and die for. Because all things will pass. But, the lessons you learn from skiing can be applied to all aspects of your life.

Some people don't understand. What makes a professional is not his superhuman ability bestowed upon him since birth. It is his mindset, his state of mind that sets him apart.

At one time the professionals of today were no better than we were, so how did they get where they are at? Despite popular belief - it was not necesarily natural talent.

Yes, some have natural talent and that gives them a boost, but it only does so much.

What seperates a professional athlete from the rest of his pack is what he lives by. His dedication, perseverance, passion, and getting back up when he falls - that is what sets him apart.

In reality, the majority of us are all capable of skiing at this level; in fact, I believe the human body is capable of so much more then we can even begin to comprehend.

The reason why few ever get there is because few are willing to work their ass for it. Few are willing to ski when it's not fun, or get back up after a dramatic fall, few are consistant, few persevere, and those few are the ones we look up to. The ones we call professionals.

Ask any professional athlete, any truly successful businessman.. they will all tell you the same thing:

They owe their success not to luck, nor to natural talent, but to perseverence, consistance, and passion.

Don't listen to what everyone says in telling you that you can not make it, what makes them so wise on the topic? Have they made it?

Instead, listen to the people who have. They will all tell you the same - if you work for it, and never give up then there is no reason why you can not.

And after all that, let's just say you don't make it. So what? You can go home knowing that you did your best and that is success in itself.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

Well, this ties into goals or paths. I personally believe, it is better to follow a path in life (get really good at skiing and ski alot) instead of a goal (become a pro skier) If you set a goal, you might not make it and then you will be left empty and feeling hollow. If you set a path you can follow it and there is nothing not to accomplish. You will feel accomplished with what you have, not what you couldve had.

I love skiing, Im leaving all my friends (good friends) behind in west virginia to move to Utah because I want a better mountain I guess thats pretty fucking selfish and they are all kinda pissed at me for ditching them to go skiing but they understand what kind of person I am. I dont let anyone get in the way of what I want. Im 20 Ill never be a professional skier Im not good enough but I am ok with that. I am gonna be taking online classes (college) while I ski. I dont see the harm in dedicating a large portion of my life into something that will never pay me back monetarily. I love skiing I think its fun. I dont know what I want to do with my life yet and skiing has really balanced me out and given my life focus so I will do this to the best of my ability untill the next step comes if it ever does... fuck it.

skiing is fun. but if you cant respect that other things exist besides skiing you need to get your self checked. think of it this way, what would you do with yourself if you all of a sudden one day, couldnt ski? would you have somthing to fall back on?
