focus on core strength, a lot of time should be focused on your abs and back muscles, as well as a balanced workout of Quad/hammy, and of course aerobic exercises. pliometric stuff can help strengthen jumping/landing too.

life is too short to have any regrets

i plan on running my ass off. i havent even been working in the last 9 months just sitting on my ass due to injury, getting fat eating ho ho's

..Seth Pistols rock my fuckin socks..

manus what do you mean by pliometric workouts?

as tdizzle said on SkiTV.. he never worked out and doesnt think anyone needs to.. you just have to work at being a better skier and so on and so forth.. aka, my workout is about 2 orders of poutine and a huge mountain dew slurpee

Search the threads. I posted a really good workout in another thread about the same thing. It was too long for me to repost.

theres a lot you can do. I race so strength is an important factor. Lifting weights is a good thing to do but strength isnt an over concern for our sport, just gotta be stronge enough to ski big lines and stick sketchy landings. Balance boards work great to tone your body and will help better with balance on skis. if you have access to the mountains go out and do some hiking, spending a weekend hiking works great to get you in shape for when you are in the backcountry hiking to that line. one of my main focus' this summer have been mountain biking. get out on a tramp or diving board. Strength isnt an over concern if you are just a freeskier, you want to arobicaly fit (e.i running or biking) but beside that the best way is just to spend time on skis.

yeah, anything that is a somewhat of a jumping activity. Lifting weights is awesome. Best exercise I know that is killer is hurdle lunges. You know how you do a lunge right? Well, don't extend as far and go down, jump up and switch legs in mid air. STart using heavier and heavier weights. Squats are always good as well. But, any exercise that involves jumping or running up a hill is great training because it uses the same muscle groups

I dream of winter.

diving boards and tramps. I lift alot of wieghts 2

every night do 50 situps. Thats pretty much all i do

If you guys have a road bike get on that shit and max yourself out sprinting on it every day. You will be a monster by the time the lifts start turning. Core is also key.

Jeff: Hey Geoff, did Ronny tell you not to wear any boxers so he could rape you better?

Geoff: No, I just put my boxers on backwards so the hole is in the back...it's alot easier that way.

Frisbee (running and jumping A LOT FOR A LONG TIME WITHOUT A BREAK), biking of any sort and 4 hours of stretching of stretching a day is what the doc persribed me!

But I've got really fucked up knees, and this is the guy who has been one of the docs for the US olympic skiing team and speed skating team for like the past 4 olympics, plus he was one of the docs for the summer xgames when they were in philly two years in a row, so I'd definetely do what he tells me too...

^Yeah my knees used to be messed too, but I got a pretty chill Physical Therapist who basically told me that skiing was going to wreck me eventually, but I could put that off with BIG STRETCHING ACTION and alot of quad and calf work. As long as the stuff around your knees is strong, it can make up for weak knees by supporting them.

I've been doing that, and haven't had any knee problems for two years now. Stretching really is key kids, so stretch stretch stretch.

I must dissagree with what a lot of people said. Weight training is very useful even for freeskiers. I ski way better when I've been lifting a lot. My legs have a lot more power which helps a lot in recoveries. The best benefit of wieght training is you won't get hurt nearly as easily. Muscle is like your body's own armor and the more of it you have the more protected you will be. This is especially true of you back, abs, shoulders, and knees. Beef up I promise you will see an improvement in your skiing plus the ladies love it.

balance boards help a ton with, well, balance.

I have one...I hop on it with my ski boots on sometimes--it's a pretty good rail simulator and also for practicing 270 offs and stuff (make sure neither end touches the floor as you jump off)

some people can ollie on them...stuff like that

and it's fun.

squat, bench, incline bench, cleans. wrestle it may sound crazy but that will help you body control in the air and get you used to getting low and spinning around fast while in control. it may sound funny but i am dead serious.

BUY 4FRNT SKIS

oh yeah, get one of those verticle trampolines, then stand on a soft pillow or foam pad and throw a heavey medicine ball at the trampoline and then catch it again while standing on one foot on the soft foam pad. (like a balance board but a hell of a lot more effective)

It's fucking hard as hell, and unlike somebody said above it isn't about balance, it's about your muscles learning how to react to certain movements so that they don't automatically tense up and cause damage to joints and muscle tissue. I don't think it helps my balance at all, but I guess I can see somebody possibly getting some balance out of it. I do really nottice the difference now that I think about in pretty much everything, especially just jumping up and down, i just hardly feel it at all and it just feels like my knees are floating instead of being locked up...

You don't get to choose how you're going to die. Or when. You can only decide how you're going to live. Now.

We're just two lost souls swimmin in a fish bowl, year after year. Runnin' over the same old ground, what have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Is this a balance board?
