Skiing with no pass/tickets

There are some resorts which pay lifties a bonus for turning in people without passes. Lifties dont make much so its a good way to make extra money.
 
early season at my mountain, they just have a couple rails set up and its not worth skiing anywhere else, i just hike up thru the woods and sesh all day
 
snuck onto the Wizard Chair at the base of Blackcomb, but at the top there were two guys waiting for me. They asked "why did you sneak onto the lift?"

I told them that I was up skiing and forgot my backpack at Rendezvous Lodge, with my "other" jacket in it with my pass. I had to sneak on because I needed to get up to the lodge to grab my pack with my ski pass in it.

They weren't really buying it, I told them that my wallet and everything is up in my pack, and all I really had on me that I could give them for collateral was my ski poles. Gave them my poles, got on the Solar Coaster Chair and just took off once I got to the top of the lift.

That's the closest I've gotten to actually getting caught skiing without a ticket. I haven't skied without a ticket/pass for like 8 years now though... man, I was ghetto in my early late teenage/early 20's.
 
hahaha okay, so the poles were collateral, not a bribe. makes sense i guess... i'd sure as fuck trade my poles rather than risk getting into serious trouble (which can happen from that shit). well played i guess
 
Going through the whole day looking over my shoulder, sneaking around all over the place, and avoiding resort employees is enough for me to just save up for a season pass. I would rather pay for the peace of mind to not have to deal with any of that shit.
 
A place like Sugarbush is located on Green Mountain National Forest land so they cannot legally kick you off the mountain if you do not have a ticket and are hiking and safely using the terrain (aka not skinning up the middle of a trail). They only have legal leverage if you use a lift or some other service they offer.

That said, if I were skinning in VT I can think of a dozen places I would go before I would do stuff that's lift-served.

you're a fucking idiot, they started cracking down last year, unless you have Norman the liftie, you'll get checked EVERY SINGLE TIME
 
That's a myth. The resort where I work (Mammoth) is on national forrest land but it's leased and you can't ski in the area without a ticket. No foot traffic allowed.
 
i have a pass at my local MT but one day i took my sister up and i thought scene she was 9 years old they would just let it slide but no way the lifties got all pissy and made us go buy one. but im sure if i tried it scene im 16 they would have done something a lot more drastic
 
All you would have to say is this, My pass/ticket fell off my coat. I am trying to find it because I had it like 2 minutes ago. Problem solved.
 
We've heard that line before. That's why we call into mountain ops so they can check the computer to see if you bought one.
 
exactly my point. They could figure it out if you said you own a seasons pass, but if you bought a "ticket" with cash, they have nothing on you. Wouldn't stand in court.
 
They still take your name even if you pay in cash. Names get printed on tickets. Plus we just got an RFID system this year, so riding without a pass is a no go.
 
my mountain doesnt work like that, as well as every other mountain i have been to..

i just hand the lady cash thru the window and she prints a ticket and gives me a wicket to attach it. they have no idea who i am
 
just tie the tie wrap into your coat or pants (usually put my pass on my pants so it's in plain site and I always pay) and if you get busted say oh fuck i was skiing park it must have fell off then try and convince them to let you go back up to check the spot you bailed hard at
 
what me and my friend sometimes do is buy 1 ticket, and get a receipt. then one person puts the ticket on and the other goes to customer service with the receipt and tells them they lost the ticket but have their receipt. new ticket printed, both of us have tickets. problem solved

 
At my local Hill (BlackJack) they will make you pay 3 times the price of a ticket if you are caught "Poaching" and it must be in cash! If you don't have the cash they call the local police who will arrest you for "recreation and resort theft" or something like that... pretty much scares me into buying a ticket!
 
I was at Timberline in July, and my friends and I were hiking one of the jumps after magic mile closed. Some ski patrol came by and told us we had to leave, but then they also told us that if we just bought a day hiking pass that if we stepped off the snow onto the dirt and rocks that they could no longer tell us to leave, and we could keep on skiing once they left, for future reference. One of the coolest ski patrollers I've ever encountered. That would probably only work in summer, and even then seems sketchy, but its something.

At my hill we need a park pass to ride the big park, and park crew rides through all the time, so it's pretty much impossible to break in and hit up the park. There's a small park but it sucks. The rails are so low. Every time I try to scissor to spin or switch up my tips or tails catch on the ground. And no jumps.
 
Bachelor had those too but its dumb cause sometimes the sensor was like at my knees and there were others that were like belly button height, so I'd either have to crouch down a shitload or jump to get it to scan. So inconvenient.
 
Is it an Axcess RFID gantry like this one? If it is, it will scan at any location between those two points so long as the pass is perpendicular to the shield. I worked installing all of these at Mammoth this summer. They work pretty well here but bachelor might have an older version.

im not a lifty but this is true at my hill too, another excuse you can use is that you switched apparel (on hot day u took your jacket off, on cold day u switched to a warmer one)
 
i go to a small ski area in Mass. and i tried getting on the lift with my weekend holiday pass on a friday (theyre literally dumbasses, they let my firend on cause he had "cool gear"). He then told me i couldnt go on the lift and i said "well looks like im gonna be hiking park" and he just said "sorry man" i guess some mountains care and others doesnt.
 
I don't necessarily condone this, but clip tickets get the job done.

Go up around noon. Lurk in the parking lot for people leaving. Ask them for their ticket. Clip. Go ski.

Illegal, but you might as well because they payed for a full day regardless.
