Skiing with no pass/tickets

who else is broke and just hiking the rails and shit at the hills? It kinda sucks but im getting soo good at rails now since i hit them hundreds of times in a night so im starting not to mind it

I would love to do this, but I don't know the consequences of getting caught skiing on the mountain w/o a pass :(

Ive got my seasons on my snowpants under my tall jacket and they never check! Ive only been checked once this year so far haha! Even tho PK has the most snow in Canada we still dont have a park :(

Most resorts don't check passes on upper lifts so if you skin for 20 min in the morning you can basically ski for free anywhere. Or you can buy a one ride ticket and bring all your backcountry gear with you, hit a few sidecountry stashes, and then skin back to a lift that doesn't check passes. Or one time a friend of mine got into a gondola with his season pass and then as the gondola was crossing the street he dropped his pass out the window and another friend picked it up and then did it 3 more times. There are so many ways to beat the man.

If you dont have a pass they just tell you to leave the lift i think? Also if its late in the day most of the lifties dont care

some hills almost deserve to get poached in my mind's eyes but lots of midwest hills seem broke enough as it is. at our hill they called the police on a guy, 3rd offense or something...?

when I took a "reckless skiing" class at keystone they said skiing at a ski area without a pass is illegal and punishable by law. not sure if it's the same everywhere tho...

Some mountains are National/Provincial/State?(if those exist) parks. Some are located on public land and therefore you only have to pay to use the lift. Not many mountains are like this though

couple years back stowe cracked down hard on people using other passes and what not. one of my friends got arrested and put into a police cruiser on the spot.

at an area near me the policy is to either get arrested, or buy two passes and tear one up right there.

Not a good idea. Heavenly messed up one season and sent me two season passes. My buddy used one and he got caught we both got arrested and charged for "Defrauding an Inn Keeper." Stupid decision on both of our parts, luckily we were both 15. We were given fines of 900 each but since we showed up to court and appeared in front of a judge we both got our fines reduced to 200.

Moral of the story, don't fucks wit it...

Same at my hill there charging 350 for a season pass when it's only tow ropes, but iv'e never had my pass checked so i assume they either don't care or can't afford to hire someone to check passes.

I wouldn't risk it but it's always annoying one those days when no one gives a shit enough to check passes and I know I didn't have to spend the money.

green pass like that dood said, or there are many many other ways, but id rather not blow up my scene for the rest of the winter...

best one ive ever had was the liftie straight up askin me if i had a ticket and i just semi-smooth talked her into lettin not only me but also all my homies up the mtn in exchange for a hug...

if you’re pro step it up and bang a liftie, if shes hot its a win win, if shes not, gotta take one for the team

haha, meadows at hood has a hike park right at the base. if my friend doesnt have a pass we just go there all day.

If you use the lifts it is theft of services and you can be charged. Mountain ops will call the police in these situations to make an example of you and will press charges.

Skinning/hiking up to mid mountain lifts - patrol/mountain ops watches for this (with cameras at some resorts) and you can get caught. Whistler and Sunshine are two examples in Canada where they do watch for this. Backcountry one ride pass, probably little chance of getting caught there as long as you actually leave the boundary and come back later.

Even if the resort is in a national/prov park, the operator has certain rights to restrict movement/use of the ski resort, they may have to grant you right of way to beyond the boundary, but you can't just skin up and do whatever you want (e.g. skin up the middle of a busy groomer, ski in their terrain park, closed terrain etc).

just buy a season pass and ski a lot to make it worth it. I dont really get why it seems acceptable to sneak up its really the same as stealing.

ive done the green pass at brighton night skiing a couple of times, but they dont check for the most part

If youre mountain has a life accessed "backside," then the back doesnt check passes. hike around side of said mountain, and ski backside for free!

im a lifty at my local hill and its actually not our job to check, im not sure about some other places but we have "mountain hosts" who sometimes stand at the entrance to the lift and check your tickets when its busy. but if you get caught without one just say it fell off and then you will probably have to leave. but lifties dont care if you have one or not

I know in Maine it's like that. The resorts rent the land from the state. They even have to get consent from the state to cut down a single tree

Just pay for the services. Im sure you would get bent about it if you were providing a service and people were stealing those services for free. Support the industry.

I ski at a couple different places in Michigan. One place always has people out checking and going back in forth from different lifts so its hard to get away with it. But theres another place that never checks. I have a season pass to both so it doesnt matter for me. But yea

I've done quite a bit of skiing at ski resorts without a pass/ticket. I did two full seasons of it actually. One at Blue Mountain, Ontario and one at Whistler. Blue Mountain was hilarious and easy: I was a lifty there for 3 weeks in December until they fired my ass. Most of the lifties thought it was bullshit that I got fired so they just let me keep skiing for the rest of the season without a pass.

Whistler was a bit trickier. Best way was to hike up to the second set of lifts in the morning, Only problem with that is that you couldn't ski Whistler and Blackcomb in a day, you had to choose a mountain and stay there.

As are as getting caught, well I've had friends be threatened to have the cops called on them, I've had them take skis away from a friend. Also - I got caught once at Whistler and got away after giving them my ski poles.

in Europe you have like magnetic lift passes and all the lift have gates that you have to like rub your pocket against to let the turn table thing spin

just clip passes in the parking lot from tourists leaving for the day. Pay them money to make yourself feel better if you have too. Been doing that at killington cause they wont hire college students over break right now.

LJ's brother tried to buy my ticket off once when I was in the parking lot leaving at my hill in Vermont. I had a season pass though, so I couldn't help him much.
