Skiing with Injury?

Recently I broke my collar bone skiing. I was just wondering if any one has skied with a broken collar bone, or any injury at all?

I have a snowboarder friend who broke his collarbone twice, so while it was healing he picked up skiing. I recall him being out of commission for a few weeks after the initial break, but after that he skied until it was completely healed.

Yes I twisted my leg went to the doctor and said I had a possibly lcl waited a week went skiing with in the first hour I tore my lcl even worse. My advice don't do it it sucks now I'm out for a while.

Depending on your injury, you may ski, or grab a camera and start filming friends while you heal. At least you get to be on the slopes and there is very little danger to filming, unless going switch or following a line of jumps. I've skied with a broken thumb for 10 weeks, sprained ankle, torn ACs, concussions, (these were not all at the same time, but some overlapped others) Be careful if you do park or film.

my buddy broke his arm and charged the rest of the day still skiing hard, because "lift tickets are to expensive to waste" Quote lol it was pretty funny hearing him land shit and yell fuck all the time.

i skied with a torn acl for 2 months and didnt know it. a kid i know skied a week after breaking his collar bone

Managed to ski with a recently dislocated shoulder after about 3 weeks nursing it. Didnt ski park though.

I broke my hand ~3.5 weeks ago by skiing into a big wooden fence. Doc suggested a removable splint, but I went with a hard cast to offer more protection for my hand, I had no intention on taking a month off from skiing to heal. My cast was poorly casted and cracked before I had the chance to even ski in it. Ended up getting it cut off a few days later and replaced with the Doc's originally recommended splint. I've skied probably a dozen+ times since the accident and I've had no issues skiing with a mitten over my splint, it just sucks not having poles for the time being..

that being said I would 100% not ski with a broken collar bone. IMO it is way too easy to re-fuck up a broken collar bone- which only leads to a longer recovery process.

Im pretty much exactly the same atm. Broke my schaphoid (bone in wrist) a week before christmas and was put in a hard cast up to my elbow. I went skiing 2 days after i did it and then went on a week long ski vacation after that. Its all about how confident you feel in your own skiing.

However, you could be the best skier on the mountain (like me) but still have some crazy gaper crash into you and with a broken collar bone, that would most likely be the area of impact. I would say just take it easy OP, its worth missing 3 weeks of the season than potentially ruining your collar bone and being out for much longer.

That's ironic because I broke my scaphoid as well in November. Super unlucky/lame fall. I just got my 2nd cast off yesterday after 2 months of being in one. I skied a decent amount and still charged groomers and pow. I skied some park but I've been taking it easy in there. Now I'm in a removable splint/cast for another 5 weeks.

I'm curious, what have you been using as a mitten? I use a wool sock and oven mitt over that...nice and toasty!

OP, don't ski with a collar bone or something that serious. But if it's a hand, wrist, finger, shoulder, you should be fine as long as you're a smart and good skier. You have to be more cautious of your skiing and others, and make sure if you do fall, don't let anything interfere near your injury.

dude, that sucks! same for me, literally just fell over and put my hand downdidnt know there was anything wrong with it for like 2 hours. Gonna be in cast for 5 weeks and splint for 3.

I just use the wool sock too, gets wet in the pow though. Skiing park will be fin as long as you do everything you know you can do. Like ive been skiing rails normally now for the pat 2 weeks and i only broke it a week prior to that. Its really not that bad, just always in the back of my mind but im sure you know that.

Wish you all the best brother!

My cast looked like this one

and I just jammed it into an oven mitt and duct taped the oven mitt tight. but luckily I only had to deal with the cast for a few days (2 days skiing). Now im in a splint that looks like this

which luckily fits snug in a regular mitten, and I even have two fingers to grab with! BONUS!

im in the same situation. broke my collarbone 2 weeks ago and am thinking about trying to be back on snow very soon. shit still hurts though

My right lateral meniscus is torn. I'm skiing lightly on it and doing physical therapy for 5 weeks. Might get surgery after ski season depending on how it feels.

Add me to the broken hand club. Currently got 4 pins in my hand. Still skiing carefully with no poles.

No shit me too... First week in December, I went off what looked like a snow gun roller but the cat took the back half to use on the hill. Ended up being like a 20ft fall onto rocks. I got a full arm cast though....so I took the month off that I had that on. Got my second day of the season New Year's Day after I got just the cast to the elbow.

tore my ACL the other day, probably wont ski on it. i did however ski a few runs right after i tore it, and it only felt weird when i would make super deep turns

same here man, broke my scaphoid and been ina cast for 11 weeks, still feels broken. Long healing process for such a small bone. be careful but shred on!

I have broken my collar bone a lot. I skied the day after cause of the inspired demo tour, not worth it in any other circumstance

I've broken both collarbones and have skied with both broken each time. That was when I was much younger though. I'm not sure if I would do it again. Just be careful and don't do anything that you aren't 100% sure you won't fall doing.

broke my wrist snowboarding at stratton around this time last year, went into get a it checked out, they put a cast on, i took some pain meds, bought some mittens boot my boots back on and kept skiing. Shit was so fun

I got a paper cut on my thumb stuffing envelopes at work but I drank a lot of booze on the mountain to drown out the pain and I was good to go.

That was sick.

I rode with an injury once? Apparently I had a concussion and was riding for the rest of the day until my brother took me down to ski patrol. He said I was acting funny after I cased a landing. He also said I tried to grope the girl working behind the desk in the office. I don't remember any of this.

probably not a good idea. id let it rest and then skiing will be that much more fun and you won't risk completely fucking anything up :)
