Skiing with broken thumb

so i broke my thumb on sunday and the dr's say i shouldn't ski for 6 weeks but i'm thinking, "it's just my thumb, i'll ski w/out poles and it'll be fine..." but this thing's pain level is way worse that any other bones i've broken (leg, foot, wrist, nose) and stays the same all the time unless i move it then it hurts more. as for painkillers they have me on vicoden. so dr.ns do you have any experience skiing w/ a broken thumb, or what do you suggest? also i'm going to whis. in 2 weeks and really want to ski then. but on saturday this week should i ski or just go up and cheer on my friends at the rail jam??+k for good answers

i had this happen to me last year. it sucks but can be managed. take advil or somthing weaker tha vicoden before you ski so your not tripping to hard. the other hardest part for me was getting a glove to fit on my hand. but keep on skiing its so worth it!

Personally i wouldn't ski until your big trip, you most likely won't be in as much pain as you are in now and you don't want to injure it further.

Just don't push it too hard. No need to have a skier thumb crash on that hand, you'll be dying, and theres really not much you can do to prevent skier thumb crashes so just take it easy. If you've got your wrist in a cast, you're golden.

I say tape the shit out of it, take some tylenol, put on a giant mitten, ski without poles, and take it really easy. If it hurts, use your judgment and call it a day.

Wrap it up supper tight so that it doesn't move when you're skiing. Make sure to take Tylenol as often as you can (rephrase: as often as you safely can.) But most of all, just use your head, if the pain gets to be too much know that it's time to stop.

i skiied most of last season with a broken thumb, first week after i broke it with this flimsy brace, then i got a cast put on. try to get a cast so you dont further fuck it up.. but ye just get used to skiing with no poles. i never bothered with painkillers but i guess thats your call. btw those red olympic mittens are your new best friend

Yeah I would wait until your big trip to ski hard. Until then just get it chill and don't do anything that could injure your thumb more.

Look up on youtube how to do a thumb and wrist taping with a thumb spica. This will support your thumb and wrist to avoid further injury.

But i would take it easy in the meantime also.

Take 2 weeks off is my advice. Thumbs are a bitch. I skied with a broken wrist after I took one week off and that was fine, but a thumb's different.

No poles, no park and you'll be fine.

i skied with a broken thumb for the past two years, and its just tough to find a glove that will fit right, sucks man vibes!
