Skiing with backpack on

I am planning on doing a lot of videoing and photography this year and thinking about carrying some equipment in my day pack. A lot of times I ski with a backpack on, but only some pop/fireball and snacks in there. I am a little scared to break stuff!

How many of you ski often with your pack on?

I ski with a my red High Sierra Pack all the time. I really enjoy it since It allows me to bring a day's worth of fun without being cumbersome.

Typically I keep a pint or fifth of Whiskey, or about 12 beers or something just to stay warm, An ace Bandage along with gauze, Clothes cutting scissors, Bandages, and athletic tape (Just in Case and Because I'm an EMT), also I carry snacks/lunch in it just in case I get hungry or someone else does. I have carried a friend's camera equipment in it (Like lights, wires, lenses, and tri-pod) and It was very comfortable the entire day and everything stayed intact.

I once fell during gaper day with my backpack being completely filled with beer cans. Only one broke and it was easy clean up.

I highly recommend High Sierra packs since they are durable as all hell, and very spacious without being cumbersome itself.

That is EXACTLY what I see myself using it for! I have a North Face day bag that is probably 15 years old, so I will be looking for a new bag. Thank you for the recommendation!

dude idk where you ski but thats a crap load of stuff to carry around. I carry around a gopro, a granola bar, and a small hydration pack and don't even notice it unless im skiing park hard

I can not possibly recommend this company enough. Extremely durable, Crazy customization for comfort through straps or latches, and also very ergonomic. I never had the feeling of me needing to take the pack off because it wasn't comfortable or anything like that.

A little ode to High Sierra: I took this pack with me when I went over seas to the middle east (I'm not military, just a civilian) and did very many physical activities everyday, ranging from hikes going over 10mi, Swimming, Kayaking, Canoeing, Beaches, Camel riding, desert expeditions, and just late night street walking. I climbed a type of watch tower structure to get a better view with this pack on and I forgot I even had it on. I LOVE MY PACK! I take it to college with me everyday with my laptop inside of it, and take it with me on shifts as an EMT.

I don't have a single regret about purchasing my pack, and wouldn't have any changes or requests I would do differently. If you are in the States you can go to TJ Maxx, or a Marshalls and they sometimes have High Sierra there for the cheap. Right now they even have the US Freestyle skiing pack on sale for less than $50 shipped if you use the discount code "Save25" at check out.

I love the company and totally support them.

I would get a smaller bag for your camera body/lens to put in it, and if you want to be really careful wrap that bag up in a base layer or hoodie or something.

I ski in Michigan and Between 5 or 6 guys, the beer goes by too fast so Its only for like a run or two. Also I'd like to mention that I'm a big guy and I don't really notice the weight that my pack is and how much goes into it.

I have the Dakine Sequence pack and I use it everyday.. to and from the office as well as on the hill when I'm shooting. Such a rad pack, I love this thing:

I've never broken anything while riding with this bag on, though, I've never done anything insane with it, either. I bailed on a large park jump with a 5d and 2 lenses last season and everything was ok (that might have been super lucky)! Usually everything is fine if you're skiing to line up shots or just cruising on the frontside. I'm getting used to the weight, too. Sometimes it feels weird to ski without it now!

Now that I know you're in Michigan by me… Can you just carry my stuff in your bag for me?

I like riding with abackpack but its personal preference...If you bringing recording stuff and fragile stuff I would be careful or not do it

I found a really awesome daypack and took off all the extra straps i wasnt using and it was blessed. 1m dropped over night and put left over pizza and 3 water bottles and slashed all day at whistler. Daypacks make skiing cheaper. Even if its leaving it in the park shack at the top of the park... bringing food brings down costs by easily 75%

Good post man you got a link I only see the SNowboarding pack???

I had always liked them and my ski travel bag. But I absolutely love the shit out of that thing as of 2 days ago now that I know my newly mounted Shiro 203s fit inside it as most ski bags would probably be a few cms too small not many skis that long being made these days. Want to find another one of the same exact bag for when this one gets too beat up.

I hate skiing with a pack but I will buy one and keep it around for when I want to hit hike to shit and don't want to carry my skis. Appreciate any links to recommended packs that strap skis onto the back easily.

Thanks! I would totally have not done that. I was planning on wrapping it in an extra hat or something but I will probably do both now!

I recommend jansport backpacks,

A. they look dope as fuck

B. If anything breaks you mail it back and they fix it or

replace it for free, even if its 10 years old

Many companies make packs that are segmented for the sole purpose of carrying around filming gear. Or I guess you could keep you different stains of buds all organized for on hill slanging cause youre so G

Dakine has some awesome backpacks in different sizes and for different use. I have the small Heli pack, and I carry some snacks, water bottle, gopro and a knife. It can also easily hold a shovel and probe.

Shopping this weekend for one and I will post the pack here after. Googling reviews has taken way more time that I would have liked LOL. I think I need to just try them on at this point.

Just recently bought a dakine help pro 2 pack. Can fit an avi kit (in dedicated pockets inside the bag) low volume jacket, snacks and some drinks. Will also fit a bladder if you're into that and has insulated hose routing with a zip closure to keep the mouthpiece out of the way. Helmet sling and can carry skis both a frame style or diagonally. Plus I just used it as my carry on to japan where it carried a laptop, tablet, all my chargers, one change of clothes, toiletries and food for the plane.

Even has a change pouch on the hip belt for tiny stuff.

I do not like riding with a pack. Feels bulky and restricting, plus my home resort is small. You're never more than a run away from your car, so it seems pointless.

It really cracks me up seeing the kids with the camelback hydration things. I wanna be like ' dude you just skied past 5 water fountains'

Obviously different at a huge resort or in backcountry tho
