Skiing with an iPod

I am most likely going to buy an ipod, but I was wondering how big it was, and if it is durable enough to ski with. I don't wanna pay 200-250 bucks and break it skiing on accident, what do u guys think

yea a deck of cards is a good comparison. Just a word to the wise though, I did screw mine up pretty hard core (talking hard drive damage) playing crab walk soccer with some middle school kids one night this spring. So they can get pretty messed up from hitting really hard. Although all the time I was skiing it was fine, I'd assume it was all the layers of clothing and small size it seemed to miss getting fallen onto. I however never did use it when I woudl hit rails, I would give it to someone else.

no shit, it's a fucking hard drive. It still spins like a regular hard drive. Personally, i'd never bring my ipod onto the hill.

it should be fine because i have a walkman and it hasnt broken yet, its also hardly noticable its real light

whos in da house, SACA is in the house!!! hahahahmuhahahah

Ipods are awesome on the hill.. just compile a playlist to last you the whole day and you're fine. As long as you keep them in their little case they are very durable and you'll be fine. Just be careful about the headphone jack if you have an old ipod, mine kept bending and it broke it.. now i always have problems w/ it. The new ones dont have that problem though

I use my MD player on the hill. I have never had problems with it. The remote is good for changingsongs. I just keep it in my inside chest pocket.

That armour seems a good idea...

Ahh well I had nothing else to put

There is an accessory for the iPod that is a durable and protective shell. I think they have it on www.apple.com under the accessories on the ipod.

my brother recently bought an iPod and returned it, he hated the way that it killed the music, I guess he was saying that the pre-amp distorted almost all songs, and no way to bypass it. He decided to get a Nomad instead (so he had some control over it). I'd totally recomend listening to anything before you drop that kinda cash, make sure it really is what you want.

Yeah, I use a Nomad JB3. Awesome all round and a whole lot cheaper than the iPod, but the size is the drawback (CD player size), so I've not skied with it ever (I use MD for skiing).

Have a look at the Nomad Zen.

no everything he had was either 128 or 192 mp3's. The problem was in the preamp. It was not adjustable on the iPod, so if he went to the pre-amp and eq functions it destroyed the songs, where if the pre-amp was adjustable, he could have turned it down, and kept the quality - but like I said it was my brothers, and I only know what he said (and I know he's like me and would only use high-quality mp3's).
